Disney Confirms Epic Mickey Developer Junction Point Studios’ Closure

epic_mickey_concept_artDisney has confirmed that Junction Point Studios is defunct as of today, January 29th, 2013. The studio was established in 2005 by Warren Spector, and it was acquired by Disney Interactive Studios in 2007. In its lifetime, the studio developed two video games – Wii-exclusvie Epic Mickey and its sequel, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, which was released on multiple platforms. We wish everyone who’s affected by the closure the best of luck.

“It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.”

    1. Well Vigil closed because THQ went bankrupt.

But Junction Point could and should stay open. I mean, Disney’s RICH. They could afford to keep a few game development studios open, and even if Epic Mickey 2 bombed in comparison to the prequel, they could make Junction Point make other games.

        1. Not really. They’re not taking orders from Spector anymore, and i’m sure Retro wouldn’t let them screw up a game.

  1. Wow… I guess Epic Mickey 2 was that bad after all. Still, once the price lowers, I wouldn’t mind owning it again (I used to, but it was because I forgot to cancel my PS3 Amazon pre-order and I long since sold my PS Move set), but this time for the Wii U.

        1. To control Mickey you’re restricted to the gamepad, only the second player controlling Oswald uses the Wii remote.

  2. At least one unmanly developer’s studio is closing down today. Hopefully Nintendo EAD or Platinum Games can close down next. Nobody wants their shit.

    1. Did you not see the list I gave you of mature games for the Wii U earlyer on? And no, It doesn’t matter if their ports.

    2. Zangeki no Reginleiv, Geist, Bayonetta 2, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, and Eternal Darkness would like to have a word with you.

  3. Despite the camera, I really loved the first one. The issue with the second one makes the game somewhat unplayable, and that is the very little instructions, and Oswald’s horrifying AI.

I was stuck in one of the first rooms of the game, because it never told me I had to pull on something. There was no icons on the screen, nor did I get instructions from Gus. I posted my video on Youtube of me solving it (looking effortlessly) as I had to research the answer from being stuck for like 5 hours. I hope to finish the second one, but it’s been downgraded while I work on the Last Story and Fire Emblem Awakening.

  4. I can say from first hand experience that epic Mickey 2 was a horrible peice of poo. It seemed like the game wasn’t smoothed out and polished. My 4 year old son wants to play it all the time because of the Disney characters. The controls are horrible.. So when you play the multiplayer ……. It gets really frustrating.. Not to mention the camera system in the game pisses me off to.. I have it for wii u.. Just a bit of advice avoid this game like the plague !!!

  6. Well If instead of working on loading a ton of nostalgia material in Epic Mickey they ended up putting more effort in making it good, I assure you that the studio still will be working

    1. There’s only 2 people that seemed to think it was good, 1 was from the troll, so that doesn’t count. I am saddened by it, I liked the first one, the second one was just very disappointing from what I’ve played so far.

  8. doubt it. Spector was an arrogent asshole who though he knew best even when everyone pointed out all the problems with epic mickey the sequal had the same exact problems because Spector just assumed that he knew what made a better game than people who played it
