Despite the slow start and overly expensive price tag, Kotaku believes that the Nintendo 3DS has become the best gaming machine on the market. The publication points out that we’ve had one of the best Mario games out there, we’ve also had the incredible Fire Emblem: Awakening, and the best Resident Evil in a long time. The future is looking bright for the console which was slated shortly after launch by analysts who were convinced the handheld wasn’t relevant due to smartphones and tablets. Sales for the Nintendo 3DS now stand at 30 million worldwide and are sure to be boosted by the games that were announced at today’s Nintendo Direct presentation. Here’s some choice excerpts from the article.
“That’s a lot of name-dropping, but the point is this: the 3DS is impressive, and continues to get more and more impressive as Nintendo does more and more to support it. While it’s always fun to debate over console power and technical specs, the best video game systems are, quite simply, the systems that have the best games. In 2013, that’s the 3DS.”
“The 3DS has followed the same path, and now it’s booming. Sales are great—Nintendo says they’ve moved 30 million of the little buggers worldwide—and the machine has exceeded our expectations by a great deal.”

2 years other systems will come out with actual next gen, wii u will be the Wii all over with gimmick like pad, new systems will be running at even higher resolutions than 1080p making the wii u again look like an snes compared to the current gen. Truth hurts but its what happens when you dont invest in future proofing.

Good to see. I’m loving the 3DS again. My Vita is slowly becoming a dust collector unless Sony does something drastic. Once fire emblem & Pokemon X&Y come out, oh boy, I’ll be kept a bit busy XD
I’m thinking Sony’s gonna do something about Vita once the PS4 comes out.
Hopefully. It’s why I’m pretty darn excited for the 20th! :-) Plus Killzone Mercenary will probably be my number 1 Vita game this year :-)

Totally agree. There is almost nothing on smart devices keeping me entertained. theyre are just flash games meant for bit size 5 min play. Its obvious people want meaningful deep experience. You pay what you get.

i believe the argument is that nintendo systems dont sell 3rd party games very well which remains true across the systems dating from the gamecube when looking at cross system ports.

Agreed agreed ^ I agree with Kotaku also , The 3DS I litteraly didn’t think much of apart from mesing around with it. Then Ocarina 3D , Mario kart 7 and 3D land launched and shit got serious. Now it’s turning into one of the best systems ever. Not just best HANDHELD but best overall system. I love the 3D my eyes have grown almost addicted to it. And it still looks so impressive.
My 3DS has recieved hundreds upon hundreds of hours of usage and will get Hundreds more this year and all the other years until its successor.

I deny that the vita sucks. I am by no means a Sony fanboy. It is a good portable console that happens to compete against a system that is better at being a portable console. Not to mention the difference in the amonds of quality titles.
By that I do not mean the vita doesn’t have any good games. Gravity Rush is extremly good. It makes me happy and gives me the magical feel that a game should give me :)
It is a good system, it’s just that Sony and other developers aren’t doing anything with it. All the system gets is ports and games that you can get on a console for better experience. The price, compared to the 3ds, is not helping it at all either. The only games that interest me is Gravity Rush and Persona 4.

The Wiiu has the potential to be something REALLY REALLY REALLY special. When the 3DS first came out it was OK but it has grown into a different thing all together. I think the WIiu will do exactly the same thing but possibly even better than the 3DS. It won’t sell as much as the 3DS but it will be better :)
i hope so, for some reason nintendo cant make there home system as good as there handhelds, i think its because they sell such more handhelds that others and home consoles other systems get good sales to
Their handhelds urge them to be more creative to make up for lack of graphics and it usualy results in refreshing gameplay experiences.
I think the wiiu is a massive step in the right direction for Nintendo. The Wii was great , but let’s be honest , it was flawed. The Wiiu’s default controlls are Dual analog and the Off screen play and HD graphics just seem like a huge step back in the hardcore direction.
Pikmin 3 will be the first tru taste of what the Wii is all about. in the same way Mario 3D land was the first true taste of the 3DS.
yea off tv play is pretty cool, if noa fixes themselves ill be happy, that will fix alot off things,they need to bring every great game over so people can se that theres great exclusives that they can only get here, instead leave fans with there to middle fingers up, but the wii u might change that by seeing that nintendo direct

The 3DS is the best eighth generation console I said when I first started posting on this site mynintendonews. It’s has more games and interactivity it’s practically beautiful. It is also backward compatible with the original DS. Software galore it holds and stays humble :).
If they ever say this about the Wii U, the world will explode.

I disagree on hardware. I love my 3DS but the pixel density is way too low. IDK know if it’s because of my smartphone but everytime I turn it on my eyes bleed.
But I’ve had the 3DS since launch and have yet to care about it. I only have like 3 games for the 3DS and have only played through one (Super Mario 3D Land). And even that game wasn’t very fun. The 3D is just a gimmick. I don’t even use the 3D most of the time. All of the built-in features are more for little kids. Like Face Raiders (if that’s the name) and the AR Card stuff. And I’ve been waiting SO long for a special edition 3DS XL that I’m losing more and more interest every day.
I have only 2 3DS games (physical) and still enjoy it. The 3D feature is subjective.
Once I get the money, I’m totally getting the 3DS and Fire Emblem. After that, I’m getting Zero Escape. Booyaka.

I never doubted the Nintendo 3DS, while I’m not crazy about the 3D effect, and I was disappointed there was no second circle pad, I had full confidence and full support in the 3DS. I really liked the DSi XL. Although, I like the 3DS for me, I bought the pink DS for my daughter because I’m afraid the 3D will hurt her eyes.
This makes me so happy! I love my 3DSXL, and I love how it’s getting all the love it deserves XD

The 3D gives all games extra depth so I wouldn’t call it a gimmick, I can’t play Kid Icarus Uprsing without the 3D because it doesn’t feel the same.
I play all games in 2d but Kid Icarus is a must… It looks sooooo good in 3d
I always play my games in 3D all the time because when the 3D is off it just doesn’t look right. I think the 3D depth makes the game experience a whole much better especially Kid Icarus: Uprising and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
I play most of my games in 2D, but games like super Mario 3d land and kid Icarus uprising just look amazing!
