Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate For 3DS Can Only Go Online Via Wii U Adapter

monster_hunter_ultimate_double_pack

Nintendo has announced that Capcom’s Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Nintendo 3DS will only be able to go online using a special Wii U adapter. The game will require a special LAN adapter that plugs into the Wii U, and a relay download tool is also required. The complex setup means that the Wii U version of the game can’t be played at the same time that the relay tool is being used for the 3DS version. You won’t be able to create a four player lobby, instead you will only be able to join a lobby that has been setup by a Wii U owner. The tool has only been announced for Japan so far.

Thanks, Tez

    1. This could only be for the Japanese Monster Hunter 3G version which came out a while ago in Japan. I expect the “Ultimate” version to not need this. You should check more into this MNN. Thanks.

    1. I think is because the 3DS cannot serve as a dedicated server while the Wii U yes. To me this decrease the value of the 3DS version a lot in comparison to the Wii U version. But still, been able to Monster Hunter outside of your house is a good plus.

      1. Capcom couldn’t get it working and instead of delaying the game to figure it out they said oh well. MH4 will have online.

        1. How do you know mh4 on 3ds will have online?
I think what carlos said make sense.. It’s more to hardware limitation.. But i dont think the dedicated server term is correct… More to hosting the game.. Much like how COD does it

    1. Indeed . But wtf ? I don’t get this. So you can buy the 3DS version and play online with a wierd adapter? Do you need the Wiiu version to play the 3DS version online ?

I’m confused , can someone please simplify what you would have to do to get it online :S

      1. I do not think you need the Wii U version to play the 3DS version online, that wuld be stupid, if that the case and you want to play MH3 online why someone would buy the 3DS version?

  1. Why do people want online on the 3DS version?
You would need a constant wifi connection to go online with 3DS which my guess would be at your house so might as well just buy the Wii U version and play on your big screen.

    1. I think is because the 3DS cannot serve as a dedicated server while the Wii U yes. And to my knowledge they say a time ago that MH3 for 3DS could not go online, the fact that they actualy think and make a way to actualy allow the users of MH3 for 3DS to go online is a pretty nice gesture of their part, one that we should be thanked for.

  2. They better make the adapter for pc not the wii u .
Like they saying you have to buy a wii u
When nintendo will learn there is people has a 3DS only !?

  3. This allows groups of players to go online at the same time. For example, you and your brother can hunt online while each of you have a 3ds with MH, instead of only one going online and the other solo playing in the meantime.

  4. They should make an adapter that can connect without the need of an wii u. Or just… well i dont know… INTEGRATE ONLINE IN IT?

    1. No, their network is great now. They want the Wii U monster hunter to sale tremendously first. Mid to end of this year we are getting this for the west with easy online play, watch this space.

      1. They would sell better if they provided people with a good network to begin with.
I thought they finally learned how to decently handle online play by now, but after reading this, I’m having my doubts.

  5. MH4 will have online though so why complain.
These games are really just “remakes” of the Wii version.
And I guess tne 3DS one serves like the Wii version but without online.
I rather wait for MH4 for 3DS…but MH3U for Wii U is alot better of course…

So if you wanna play MH3U 3D online, you HAVE to have a Wii U? And if you’re playing it online with your 3DS, you CANNOT play online with your Wii U at the same time?

Why would anyone get the 3DS version?! xD

    1. I’m getting it to play MH3U on the go, farm for items in single player mode, then when home, play some online without fear of running out of useful tools ^^

  7. this will hurt 3ds sales of the version, but i planned on getting the wiiu version from the start, so its all cool to me.

  9. …you all need to learn how to read…including the writer of this “article”.
“Monster Hunter 3 G on 3DS to Go Online Via Wii U Adapter”
^That’s the headline of the actual article. As in “the MH3 port that was released on 3DS a year or so ago in Japan”, not “MH3 Ultimate that’s coming out this year”.
…this world is going to end due to stupidity if the idea of merely checking news sources is this foreign a concept…

Is anyone else having trouble killing the monster in the demo? I keep attacking and attacking and attacking and he just won’t die .___.

  11. Sounds like a hassle, but at least online is available.

Off topic, what does everyone think of the demo so far? I’m loving it, it’s amazing, this game has got me back into the greatness that is MH :-)

    1. SherlockWillFightBilbo

I haven’t played a MH game before so I had a rough time, but I’m sold. And I just checked Capcom’s web site and you can transfer the save data to and fro the Wii U and the 3DS. I’m considering buying both versions.

Sickr/Alba, Capcom’s site says you can buy MH3U and get a Classic Controller Pro for FREE: http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/en_US/pd/ThemeID.1944700/productID.256030000/Monster-Hunter-3-Ultimate-Wii-U.html?resid=USZkogoBAlUAACN6AuYAAAAe&rests=1361470626476

Got the Wii version a while back to introduce me to the series and loved it
I think the game is even better on a handheld

  12. This is the Kid Icarus Uprising Champion speaking.
After I saw the trailer, and the CREATE YOU’RE OWN WEAPON system, I automatically declared this game as my new favorite game for 3DS, especially since it has online.
I’ve been waiting a while for Nintendo to make a wi-fi game like this for portable Nintendo Systems. The closest I’ve experienced – Phantasy Star Zero, and Kid Icarus Uprising, maybe Heroes of Ruin.

Then I saw that you needed a LAN adapter connecting to the Wii U in order to play online..i’m like,

    “Yep…of course….”

  13. I’ve been waiting so long for a game like this for Nintendo DS systems… BUT LAN ADAPTER!?

    COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    EGAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. NVM the Lan thing is ok, its awesome that they put the same details and work as the Wii U.

Its like you can progress in Monster Hunter 3DS anywhere, and then play with the Wii U folks afterwards. The Lan to play with Wii U folks now appears to me as a Bonus rather than a letdown :)

  15. Played the demo and this shit is terrible.

It loads every time you move frim one small section to another and there is no way to target lock on enemies

    1. Antidisestablishmentarianism

      You can’t like in zelda
but you can change the camera to change in the monster’s direction
      AND I LOVE MONSTER HUNTER!
