Miyamoto has revealed that everyone’s favourite sidekick, Luigi, won’t be getting his own storyline in the forthcoming Super Luigi U downloadable content for New Super Mario Bros U. Miyamoto says that he won’t have his own story, but the levels have been redesigned specifically for him. Miyamoto was also asked whether or not Mario will feature in the DLC, to which he replied “I can’t say yet”.
In “Super Luigi U,” does Luigi have his own storyline, or does he just have the levels available to him?
Miyamoto: He doesn’t get his own story, but all of the levels have been redesigned for Luigi, so it should be a pretty good role for him.
Multiplayer: Does Mario make an appearance at all?
Miyamoto: I can’t say yet.
There are some people that say that they want Mario to appear, but Mr. Tezuka is saying that he’s not going to let Mario into this game.

Could have been cool like maybe Luigi had to track down and save Princess DAISY from King Boo’s kidnapping. Along the way he fights littler Boos in castles. The final boss fight could be King Boo in his Mecha Bowser Suit!

I think it was pretty obvious that the “Super Luigi U” was going to be 80 or so challenge speed/skill stage and nothing more.
I thought Miyamoto said “all of the levels have been redesigned for him” meant that ALL the levels in NSMBU will be redesigned for Luigi. Meaning that he will get as many levels as the game itself has.
Well that will mean there are what? 94 levels? it must bee, it´s the number that appear in my save file next to my 5 shiny golden star.
I guess so.

A lot of things don’t have stories and are considered works of art. Abstract paintings, Poetry, etc. Even award winning videogames don’t necissarily “need” a story. Look at the game “Journey”. It was highly praised, but also notably lacking an intricate story.

I disagree. Some mario games are all about story, like Mario RPG, or the first couple paper mario games, as well as the mario + luigi games. But this is not one of those games, it’s about sitting down playing then moving on. Just like you said.

I hear Gears of war and Kinectimals 2 on the xbox720 shall have voice co-op for us basement dwellers. While the nintendo nation plays monster hunter 3 Ultimate for 100s of hours, you and I can play Crysis 3 for five hour spurts and enjoy the eye candy graphics. Can’t wait for the ‘Last of us.’ Those graphics look nice movie and clicking in one game now that’s innovation. Not that Zelda Skyward sword with it’s show off precise control and great story. These nintendo chaps know not gaming COD mindless violence all the way.

Well I don’t think there is a story change, because it is just downloadable content with level changesin NSMBU for Luigi. It isn’t like you are buying a brand new game.
Well if luigi plays like mario 2 with higher jumps and less traction from galaxy and 3d land itll be good to have different kind of levels based on his gameplay. I just doubt itll be 1 player
Personally, Paper Mario 2 TTYD has the best story of any Mario game to date…

I hope Mario wont make an appearance in the Luigi U game, hmm how many times has Luigi gotten the shaft in a Mario game? Nintendo needs to make a Luigi game with his own story, and not having to save Mario’s tail…again. And start using another underused character that actually has ties to Luigi, “Daisy”.
Considering the game’s quite literally a level pack (and downloadable content to boot), I see no real problem with this. I mean, this is quite literally one of the biggest examples of downloadable content in gaming (redoing every level in the game) and likely to be sold for a much lower price, so not having a new storyline isn’t exactly a big deal.
Story and gameplay are both important sometimes. I’m pretty sure this game as Mario had people connect to the story, like the wondering of Peach’s castle, etc.. That’s all based on the story and what made it fun for some. It didn’t have lot’s of cutscenes, and dialogue, but the story did effect one large thing in the designing, the whole purpose of going to Peach’s Castle. For a game like this, I think at least a simple story like that is great (Not saying they should simple the story on the RPGs though).
So yeah Story can work out and games and what made a lot of games fun. It’s bull crap to pretend story has no reason for certain games. Gameplay and Story can be both equality great.
It’s what made Mario RPGs so great and loved, etc.
As for this, I wonder if the story will be like Mario if he doesn’t get his own story? Or just have no ending bowser thing?
The only thing I am worried though is that they are not going to change the world map at all and make all the levels only speed runs. :/ Since I was wanting to explore some levels without being rushed.
