Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter believes that Nintendo only managed to sell 80,000 Wii U consoles in the United States during the month of February. Pachter says that the original Wii console sold the same amount as its successor during February. Pachter points out that Wii U’s sales were around half of the 165,000 PlayStation 3 units sold last month and were miles behind the Xbox 360, which sold 225,000 units. The official NPD numbers should be coming sometime later this week.
“The Wii sold nearly double our estimate as the Wii U vastly underperformed our expectations, likely due to a relatively thin release slate and an unusual number of returns. It is difficult to envision a turnaround in Wii U hardware sales without a price cut or until more compelling software becomes available, but we think that weekly sales of 20,000 units is likely. We think that the long-term appeal of the console will be severely limited by the perception that the next consoles from Microsoft and Sony will be much more powerful with greater online integration and multimedia functionality.”

The Wii U. It is a gaming device first and formost. It doesn’t have the bells nd whistles of a gaming device that wishes it was a high end gaming PC but really isn’t such as consoles released bySony and Microsoft. It’s a true gaming device and is intended to be only a gaming device. Mcrosoft Durango is rumored not to focus on games as they are now, it is proposed that they are doing something all togther different than Xbox360. That in itself maybe interesting and maybe something altogether innovated but if rumors are true, there s going to be a yearly subscription fee. If that’s the case… no thank you I already have enough subscriptions to run my entire world Cable,Internet,Telephone. and then the Microtransactions I have subsriptions through my internet service

While I am willing to play games through my internet on a regulr basis and pay a one time fee for them and the right to own the license to play it as I see ft, I should’t have to pay a subscription to play these titles. Ps4 from what I saw looks great and seems to be very pretty but it’s the Playstation all overagain. Nothing special and nothing innovated. The controller is blah, the graphics while impressive don’t meandog poo towards gameplay, and we have a good ideal that itwill play very similarly to a PS Vita. This could be bad if they dont’ fixthe connectivity between the Vita and Ps4, cause as we can see the cross play for Vita to Ps3 is not to good compared to the connectivity of the Wii U and it’s Gamepad. I look forward to Ps4 thinking it may offer something unique down the road.

It’s connectivity between controller and device is phenominal. it’s off screen play is convienant and if Nintendo plays it’s cards right they can evolve the system and the controller through out it’s life cycle. As I told you in my other response, Nintendo designs their consoles to play games with (hence no DVD playback, facebook apps, twitter apps, skype apps, apps apps). Comparing sales between xbox and ps is however something that you can keep an eye on and then fuck off from this site.

That’s not what he said at all. Learn to read: he said unless Nintendo cuts price or comes out with better games, Wii U is likely to not do any better in sales. As Nintendo has said they have no price cut plans anytime soon, and current announced game lineup is not impressing anyone, it’s unlikely that Wii U will have any momentum when PS4 and the next XBOX come out.

Microsoft and sony will indeed have a better online functionallity and multiplayer features by far. That doesn’t change the fact that WiiU will have Zelda, Metriod, Super Smash, 3D Mario, Pikmin 3, that Yoshi game and even more Nintendo wonderfulness, probably something like Kirby and even a Mario Party game. I buy a console to enjoy games in a unique way that is equally or at least as fun as the way I do it on my PC. Nintendo’s exclusives DO play better on their innovating controllers than on a mouse + keyboard!
My PC does the online and multiplayer functionalities at least four times better than any console, plus I can control the game 100000 times more precise with mouse + keyboard. The games are no different, only that, for instance, PC has MOBA console don’t. The xbox/ps exclusives are just money machine franchises with no good/fun or well designed game mechanics at all.
Now, MS and Sony, tell me why I would like to purchase an overpriced machine that tries to do the same thing as my PC already does very well, however your machine requieres me to use a frustrating controller with terrible precission. Also, why would I play any game on a TV screen, when regular computer monitors are FAR superior?!
My WiiU hooked up to my computer monitor is a fucking beast. On my WiiU, I play games completely differently than how I play them on my PC, and vice versa. I’m just waiting for the true beefy titles to hit the market.
not so sure about the multiplayer aspect. The ability to have two separate screens for multiplayer with the wii u is pretty epic, not sure they will be able to beat that. Online is in my opinion not the same as multiplayer as you aren’t actually in the general vacinity of anybody else.
Well, on WiiU you can’t efficiently play multiplayer at all unless you have people with you in the same room. You can’t either hook two, three or four consoles into a network and play over LAN. You can’t even hook up wired controllers anymore…

My whole point is that if you own a Wii U + a PC, you have 2 different ways to enjoy games different games. Pachter used to heavily bash on Wii. But, surprisingly, during one of his last interviews some while ago, he praised it, saying that Wii marked a generation due to its innovation. That’s why I don’t take this guy too seriously. It is likely he’s going to think otherwise about Wii U in the future.

This week gamers marks the last week you should really invest in PS3 and xbox360 games. Anyone with no system and requires one should buy but a Wii U as their first system. Next week Tuesday, and before that Monday Lego city most wanted releases, also the PC version and then some, all DLC plus Wii U mechanics releases. Buy those and laugh joyfully. Start also saving for nintendo first parties, plus either the PS4 or xbox720 as a complementary system to the Wii U.
I get my online gaming hunger completely satisfied by my PC though so I see no reason to buy a PS4, and I don’t even consider anything related to Xboxes…

Pachter said that in january wii u sold 125,000 when it only sold 57,000. I wonder if it sold amazingly now that pachter is guessing a low number.
So, the Wii U sold more in February than it did in January, and there weren’t any major releases to increase the sales. It’s still not stellar sales figures, but it is an increase none the less. I would expect March numbers will be significantly better. This isn’t Sega Dreamcast all over again, more along the lines of what the 3DS did actually.
I’m not sure if that number is even correct. Last I check it was around 36,000 US and like 150,000 world wide. But even if it was 80,000 that is UP from the 55,000 last month so his whole statement is a contradiction.
