HMV Slashes Wii U Premium Pack With Nintendo Land And ZombiU To £200

wii_u_premium_box

Troubled UK retailer HMV has decided to take action against declining Wii U sales in the United Kingdom and has slashed the pricing of the Wii U 32GB Premium Console with Nintendo Land and ZombiU to £199.99. That’s a £140 saving on the recommended retail price. Nintendo said earlier this week that it plans to meet with UK retailers to help boost sales of the console.

  1. sigh…there’s not much wrong with the standard price, the retailers just need to wait for the games to arrive. Heck they already are. Patience is a virtue.
But ofc, for those who saw the Wii U price as a barrier, this is a great opportunity

      1. Yeah my copy of MH was dispatched today….really want to get Lego City and I probably will, even though I’m broke :/

      1. Nintendo need to actually advertise on TV, but even the retailers can help. I don’t know how the situation is in the UK, but I’ve seen retailers just chucking the Wii U at the back of the shop, which left me baffled to say the least. How about putting it on display where it can be seen? I’m pretty sure the PS4/new Xbox won’t get the same treatment. Double standards all the way.
And for the love of Arceus, have a Wii U demo unit up and running so people can actually experience what it feels like to play the Wii U

        1. Cry about it? “Wah, other consoles get treated better!”

Yeah, well they’ll likely have better ad campaigns and launch line-up, so people will WANT them, and thus retailers won’t feel the need to push them to the back to make room for stuff that DOES sell/people want.

          1. That doesn’t even make any sense. Did you even see the sales figures for the first 4 months. The Wii U sold more than the PS3 and 360 during their launch period, despite the lack of games, lack of advertisements and poor treatment by retailers

    1. I live in the US and our target store has had both Wii U Standard and Premium between $249.99-$299.99 with $25/$50 gift card and $299.99-$349.99 with $25/$50 respectively like every other week for the past 3 months and to top it off Wii U games are usually buy 2 get 1 FREE every other week, this week of 3/17/13 to 3/23/13 they both have a $50 gift card and buy 2 get 1 free. I’ve been playing Nintendo since Mario gave me that awesome Orange hand gun blaster to pawn those ducks with and to throw it at that Dog every time it laughed at me for doing miserably in a round….. So seeing the Wii U struggling hits me real hard, and every time sickr or anyone else posts a tweet related to Wii U struggling or that Nintendo dropped the ball on this console etc. it just reminds of that Dog and that laugh he did only I can’t throw anything at it anymore…. Sadly I no longer own a Wii U, after having preordered a premium version along with Zombie U and NSMBU, I proudly got it home only to have it crap out on me shortly after that god awful long update for the console and its games. I now wait for Nintendo to refine its console because at this stage I’m no longer blinded by the Mario magic that once sorrounded my childhood, I’m missing out on great Nintendo Wii U games both currently out now and upcoming solely by my own begrudging choice, but is one that for once in my gamer life truly feels I was forced to do by Nintendo due to their negligence to recapture what they once where to me and I’m sure many others. I now have kids of my own and both them and I are sitting at the edge of our seats eagerly awaiting Nintendo’s next move/iteration of their current console, in the mean time 3ds XL will suffice for our Mario needs. If you at all read this Nintendo of America or from any other region, I see now how you have captured the minds of children to drive their parents into submission of your mascots and have only one thing to say…. Don’t go down that road because we already have SONY and MICROSOFT for that …. Isn’t there a saying that says “GREED WILL INPRISON US ALL”? I’ve owned and still own many consoles and handheld consoles that deserve the respect of companies such as EA, so can’t you see just how much more insult to injury it is to me to not see your company’s current console in my home? For those of you who think I’m here to bash Nintendo … Well I’m not, frankly I’m just disappointed and only express how I feel about Nintendo’s current predicament. If you want to, hit me up all you like, I have and open mind and there for here’s my twitter handle @ZABERX13 I know Nintendo can do better which is why I will patiently wait for their next move.

  2. I hope Almighty Commander Iwata and the rest of High Command deals with this troublesome issue as fast and effectively as possible…

We can’t continue losing resources in the UK region like this!

  3. Wow, it seems like Nintendo is really taking the wheel on their talks with retailers! I really can’t believe that a retailer is doing this with a console that is 5 months old… They really aren’t that patient over in the UK are they? Consoles sell when they have more games releasing on them that multiple consumer types will buy, those releases have started this month and will continue… Why do UK retailers have a hard time staying in business? Because they panic when they have stock for more than 1 month! Slow and steady wind the race here.

  4. The retailers aren’t exactly helping matters.

Nintendo needs a few big games to come out, and it needs to increase the Wii U advertising.

But retailers are practically trying to kill the bloody thing. Fucking everyone over with the prices, not so much the console now, but still the games, costing £45 or £50 instead of the standard (and already too high) £40. Hiding the system at the back of the shops giving it as little shelf space as possible. They could try advertising it too. Put it at the front of the shop, where new consoles should be, and put some bloody posters up in the windows, and wait for the heavy hitters to be released. It’s not rock science.

If the retailers would do that, and Nintendo would increase their advertising and release some bigger games as soon as possible, all would be well.

    1. No, it is not geology! It’s marketing and Nintendo has dropped the ball in every country on the Wii U advertising! *Rock Science – lol*

    2. Well put, but that is exactly what is happening. Big name games with a lot of development time are surely on there way and advertising god help them. They are retarded at this.

  5. Have to agree with A0. Strolled in to gamestop today expecting to see a big monster hunter sign or something. They had a few copies of the game in the wii U drawer behind the desk. The game itself was 55 euro (the standard, which I agree is far too high) but I remember them looking for 70 for COD and are going to be looking for 70 for NFS underground. It’s a complete joke. How can they expect owners to buy ports of games they can get for other consoles for cheaper at that price? The wii U is fantastic and neither retailers, publishers or Nintendo are doing anything to show consumers it.

    1. Yup. A minimum 30% off everything they sell. Games, movies, books, CDs, and electronics.

Some items are 50% or even more off. This represents a 40% off deal.

    2. You know what , I was in their 2 days ago and I thought ”why the fuck is everything £7 cheaper than normal”

  6. What the fuck ? now I wish I would of fucking waited. How can they even afford to slash it by that much ?

          1. Except it’s the truth – HMV is in administration, the company is in a shambles.
Won’t last the year, if they continue like they have been.

                        1. Oh my, you’re hilarious…Swing and a miss! XD

Have you seen how many of those are even on steam?

        1. I have heard that HMV arent making a loss on the console even at this price. That makes me wondered how much retail are inflating the prices to begin with especially with the way the Wii sold originally and the fact that Nintendo is not setting the RRP. Then they have the cheek to call for a price cut from Nintendo just so they can line their pockets further.

        1. They will if Retro actually comes out of their nuclear bunker for once.
Although for this reason, i hope its not just Raven Blade, or a game that was born from it.

          1. It seems the dodgey economy is making everyone panic. I wonder if everyone will panick the same when the ps4 and 720 struggle to match the Wiiu’s sales within 4 months? lol . .

            1. I duno. Thing is while alot of people are excited for new consoles, most people are just really fucking cheap, and want the system they bought 7 years ago to do everything.

              1. If everyone is expecting a ‘PS4 and 720 mirracle’ it’s not gunna happen…
                Kids/casuals will hold onto the console they have now for a year or so , the high price will turn away a lot of people as will the lack of games. So just like wiiu , it wil come out guns blazing in launch week and then go right down ….. I don’t see the Ps4 as a wii style phenomenon , it’s another PS3 or 360…;

      1. taku bonk bonk weeaboo

        1. Lord of the Nintendo Haters

It’s so sad, man. One of the true gaming giants has truly fallen.

          R.I.P. Nintendo, 1889 – 2013

            1. Lord of the Nintendo Haters

It’s true. Kids are no longer interested in Nintendo products and some are the nostalgia dudes who supported Nintendo are starting to get off their ass and live meaningful lives.

              1. You’re a sad , pathetic nerdy troll with psychotic issues , am I right ? yes , i am. It doesn’t take a doctor to work that out.

                1. First of all, when has giving the truth been trolling? Man, this community is so stupid. Second, explain how I’m pathetic or nerdy. You are the one who has a “420 errday bro” to being a “childish Nintendo gamer”. Finally, it’s psychosis not psychotic problems and I don’t have anything of the such.

                  1. I’m busy playing Monster Hunter Ultimate and the best version of Need for speed , thx… and all of my other games. I will stick with wiiu all the way. Fucking smash bros , Mario kart , 3D mario and a new zelda game are all in development not to mention Monolith softs X , Bayonetta 2 and much more!

                    1. I’m busy being really annoyed at no store stocking them two games in the UK, then waiting for them to be delivered.

      2. This is what it should have been priced in the first place. Consumers who bought the Weak I full priced will be pissed. Glad I didn’t waste my hard earned pounds on dat SHIT. Just being honest. Like PS Prime said, R.I.P. Wii U.

      3. HMV is just liquidating stock while they’re going under so nothing new. There are two things that need to be accomplished in the UK: Nintendo needs to advertise their product and retailers need to learn how to not overprice their product.

Nintendo gave them free reign before to price the product only to have them turn around and mark it up over 50% from the NA prices. Couple that with little to no advertising and you have exactly what’s going on nearly everywhere.

I have to agree with Pachter on this one that the UK market is a joke. If UK and Europe wanted to move product, they must advertise and cut prices. It doesn’t require a genius to realize how easy it is to fix this problem.

      4. playeressence.com/microsoft-and-sony-are-closer-to-going-third-party-than-nintendo-lets-get-the-facts-straight/

      5. So what, everyones panicking because of this? Seriously?

It’s just ONE UK gaming store at fault here – Nintendo isn’t in any trouble. The ENTIRETY of the UK gaming market is a mess, anyway, and it’s tough for consumers when prices are completely being messed around with because of Tax and other nonsense.

Nintendo Neighsayers jumping in on this topic really have no idea what they’re talking about!

          1. Aww, you are adorably trollish…misinformed, but I can forgive that! :3
*pinches dem cheeks* Whos a widdle twolley twoll, Hmm? You is…yes you is!

            1. Very funny, but I don’t appreciate trannies touching my cheeks. Anyway, you realize I have access to your personal information and can expose at which time I feel necessary.

                1. Why don’t you just ask a frequent user of this site, N-Dub Nation. Much of his personal infromation was exposed on one of the articles by a user called Aeolus. I could easily do the same to you, wouldn’t be that hard.

      6. It amuses me to see how many of you Xbots and Sony Units are declaring the doomsday of the Wii U just because the least Nintendo pro region slashes the price of the system…

It’s one thing seeing negatives report of the Sony infested region, but it would be entirely different if this was done in our Main Base Japan…

When it happens in Japan then we can worry for real…
But right now this is nothing more than a temporary setback that will be dealt with as soon as possible…

I have 100% confidence in Almighty Commander Iwata!

          1. It would have been funny if after posting this, the very next article said that Iwata is going to step down.

      7. This got ugly real fast… HAHAHA.
Not selling my Wii U or abandoning a gaming giant, just because of the store that cried wolf.

      8. Can people stop pointing the obvious that Nintendo has to improve it’s advertising and release more games for every post of Nintendo and UK news… We all know because it’s common sense that there needs to be games. We see people say it but we don’t need to see it every freaking post.
Nintendo just got 3-4 games released this month and you continue to say it needs games. Nintendo can’t just launch a 1/4 finished game of Mario kart just to increase sales. We know it will take time and will hopefully be released early next year like MKW did in April 2008 (Wii 2006). I look at the comments to see people’s response and all i find is the same thing over and over. Can you all just understand that there is no need to repeat and even when Nintendo just got new games for WiiU this month there is NO need!

      9. Dumb people over in the UK. The price isn’t why its not selling. Its cause the UK g
people only like COD and fifa.

            1. Listing just 5 of them:

Inability to get games from major retailers (even specialist gaming shops),
Greedy shops asking twice the price than they really need to,
              Poor advertising on Nintendo’s part,
Lack of any killer games for 4 months,
              Poor economic climate.

      10. UK retailers are idiots, the problem clearly isn’t the price but the lack of games. Seriously, they are losing out on so much money by doing this, and I will be taking full advantage of it :)

      11. Nintendo is not known for hyping up anything. They are busy making the games and when there close to finishing the games or whatever there working on then they hype it up.
Most devs now days are so busy hyping up a game and they game turns out like shit. Just look at Aliens Colonial Marines. All Gearbox was doing is hyping up that game. Now it might not even out on Wii U cause it’s so bad.
Nintendo does all there hyping up at E3 and during the Nintendo Directs.

      16. living in UK I can tell you that: “NOW I GOING TO BUY THAT CONSOLE” £249 or £300 was way too expensive. No way I was going to buy it as this price. Also Nintendo has been hit really hard as the ads in UK has been removed cause for false advertising. But to be honest you have not see any ads on other media… I need to check the article about the flyer but even if it look a dumb idea, that was needed to explain to causal or new gamer the difference between the Wii and Wii U. Tomorrow I go to HMV…

        1. I also replied to some post but those who say: the price is not the problem then I would say: “think again…”. Saying that as many say Nintendo is not in the shit, it’s just that HMW UK (who also operate in Japan) is in financial difficulty and like a raven I take advantage of it. Also can I add like somebody already say, there are at least 5 reasons why Nintendo not selling very well in UK:
          – NO or few advertising since the launch (don’t let me start on the marketing before the launch).
          – Price of the system is way too expensive 50% more expensive than North America price… No way I pay 250-300 quids.
          – Present economic situation is… is very gloomy (why do you think HMV is in trouble?)
          – Wii U games which are also available on other platform are £10 more expensive. So for someone who already has a PS3 or xbox 360 but brought a Wii U, it does not make sense to buy the Wii U version of that game….. unless you are loaded.
