Capcom Is Pushing For Their Fighting Games To Have More Single Player Content

Capcom’s senior vice president, Christian Svensson, has revealed that the company is actively pushing for their fighting games to include more single player content. The news came after a number of beat em up enthusiasts took to the Capcom Unity forums to discuss the need for more single player content in Capcom fighters. Here’s what Svensson had to say.

“The strategic marketing group here has for quite a while been pushing for our fighting franchises to have more and better single player content, of which full fledged story modes are one component.”

“How and when those requirements manifest in our future roadmap, I’m not prepared to speak about at this time.”

  1. The latest Mortal Kombat had an excellent single player campaign.

I imagine Injustice will have something similar. Being just the same game reskinned and all.

    Definitely a good idea.

    1. That’s good.
I find fighting games never to be worth full price. Yeah, if you’re into them, and you’ll play them online/local that’s fine, but £40/$60? Nah.
Unless you’ve got a lot of content, the price should be lower. Smash Bros being an exception, single player aside, the fact that you actually have to unlock stuff encourages replay value, which is another thing, STOP MAKING EVERYTHING UNLOCKED FROM THE START!
I like to jump into a game like that, an constantly unlock new characters, like in Smash Bros, you have enough time to try all the characters before new ones start showing up, which means you play as everyone. When you start a game like Super Street Fighter 4, and there’s 40 characters, and all the stages are unlocked, what exactly am i supposed to work towards?

Then again, it’s Capcom, so this is probably just PR talk and empty promises.

      1. It’s not so much that everything is unlocked at the start these days. It’s that all the content that would have been previously unlockable is now DLC.

Oh you want to unlock extra characters? That’ll be 5 fucking 99 each.

Ignoring the fact that thats blatantly unfair and stupid. If you valued the included characters at that price, the game would cost almost £150.

I’m interested in this game, but as with all games these days, they’re not worth buying until a year later when the “complete”, “ultra”, “special” or “now that we’ve fucked you over already, we’ll finally release the full game” edition comes out.

        1. I didnt mean to reply to you, i thought i wrote it as a seperate comment xD

But i agree, Capcom especially with their on disk DLC, and even Injustice has DLC characters coming, and they again make the price of the game even more unjust.

But the last fighting games ive played, everythings been unlocked. Its like if i bought a Mario game and all the stars had been gotten from the begining.

      2. This exactly. No fighting game except smash is worth full price. Except for ofcourse Capcom VS SNK 2 for ps2 – the greatest game ever (exageration but it’s damn good)

And yeh which wankers choice was it to unlock things from the start. I got tekken tag and thought fuck this shit as soon as the game was basically beat from the start. Same with street fighter for 3DS. Such a poor idea.

  2. Sven is a jerk. He locks threads on capcom unity when people make valid points about the company he works for instead of addresing the problem ans satisfying the customer. I mean thats the wholebpoint of capcom unity right?

    1. More rewarding single-player campaigns (pls see the first Tekken-Tag, Smash bros & even Blazblue) & Stop with the greedy, cash grab DLC & everything will be ok.

Which leads to another thing, Consumers: Stop buying they’re damn DLC!!!!! If you keep buying it, they’re gonna keep selling it!

  3. Virus: Karas and Yatterman 2 FTW!

At least they’re aware and planning to change. Tatsunoko Vs Capcom could’ve used some more single player options… to put it mildly :/

  4. Aslong as it doesn’t wear down the multiplayer aspect in any way or destroys the series itself just like Resident Evil then be my guest…

  5. Yes please.
The reason why I grew to enjoy Arc System Works fighting games (such as Blazblue, Persona 4 Arena and Guilty Gear) much better than Capcom’s is because there is so much more to do,
Compare what they have to the terribly lacking first player (arcade mode) campaign of Marvel vs Capcom 3 and you’ll see what I mean.

  6. Cause I’m DLC
    I’m Dynamite
    DLC
    and I’ll win the fight
    DLC
    I’m a power load
    DLC, Watch me explode

  7. Something tells me that Street Fighter V on the PS4/Xbox720/Wii U would be worth buying after hearing these news.

  8. All fighting games should take note of Netherrealm Studios and how they succeed illy do fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Injustice: Gods Among Us.
