Nintendo Announces It Will Not Host A Major Press Conference At E3 This Year

wii_u_e3_2012

During its financial results briefing, Nintendo announced that unlike previous years, it will not host a “large-scale presentation” at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Company president Satoru Iwata says Nintendo is instead planning several “smaller events” for the expo that will focus on software for the U.S. market. Among them are closed hands-on events aimed at American distributors and the Western media.

In the past we invited reporters, investors and analysts, industry partners, such as software publishers, and distributors who attended E3 to our large-scale presentations. We also used them as a communication tool in which we broadcast our presentations on the Internet to reach out to video game fans around the globe. I believe that many are expecting us to host a similar event this year.

First, we decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past.

Instead, at the E3 show this year, we are planning to host a few smaller events that are specifically focused on our software lineup for the U.S. market. There will be one closed event for American distributors, and we will hold another closed hands-on experience event, for mainly the Western gaming media. Also, I did not speak at last year’s presentation, and I am not planning to speak at these events at the E3 show this year either. Apart from these exclusive events for visitors, we are continuing to investigate ways to deliver information about our games directly to our home audience around the time of E3. We will share more information about them once they have officially been decided.

During the E3 period, we will utilize our direct communication tools, such as Nintendo Direct, to deliver information to our Japanese audience, including those who are at this financial briefing, mainly focusing on the software that we are going to launch in Japan, and we will take the same approach outside Japan for the overseas fans as well.

          1. I really don’t see your point. They/we were “screaming”, as you put it, because of all the games they are planning to show. Who cares if they don’t have a Major Press Conference? The games will still be there.

            1. I know your rehashed, irrelevant Nintendo games will be revealed at some point. Nintendrones were really hyped up for E3 and now Nintendo will not even host a major press conference there, that’s what I find funny.

              1. *Somebody* sounds a little fanboyish against Nintendo…….And again, you’re missing the point, Nintendo fans are still hyped for E3 because of the games being shown off AT E3. You can find it “funny” all you want, their fans are still hyped and will find ways to watch the video content (most likely of all on Youtube).

                  1. They are taking their E3 presentation away from gamespot and gametrailers who do nothing but hate their product. Then they give it to us directly with a better performance because they are not doing it live.

              2. If you hate Nintendo so much, why are you spending your goddamn life on it replying to people? I scroll down and I see like five other comments of yours.

          2. Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. 4, Super Mario U, Beyonetta 2, The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, X, My Miyamoto’s projects, and Retro Studios’ project is going to be there. Thats just what has been announced, and I would say Nintendo has already “won” E3.

            1. Out of all the games on that list, only Smash Bros. 4, Bayonetta 2, and Retro Studio’s game are relevant. The rest are childish, rehashed crap.

              1. What a narrow-minded piece of shit, you are. Not everyone like games with blood and shooting and you should respect that. Xbox 360 and Ps3 wasn’t gonna get Rayman Legends and everyone was whining about that, so don’t be calling us childish, more Nintendo fans own games like ZombiU, AC 3, and MH3U than you think, stupid fuck.

                1. Idiot. Not all the games I play have blood or shooting. I will continue calling you and your fellow Nintendrones childish, since a majority of what you play is infantile and lame.

                  1. Newsflash, douchebag….Wii U is my first Nintendo console. Never played a Zelda or Metroid before, so please tell me how I’m a Nintendrone? Oh wait, ya can’t cause you just generalize that anyone who enjoys Nintendo is immature….go to your room and play your KinectAnimals now, kid.

                    1. I don’t own a Kinect and even if I did I would never buy Kinectimals for it. Lame attempt at an insult, butthurt fanboy.

                  1. Hah. Pussy. Real gamers drink mountain due with Master Cheif’s face on it. What are you, a Nintendo fanboy or something? Please. Everyone knows Sega does what Nintendon’t.

              2. Shin Megami Tensei.
                Shin Megami F*ing Tensei.
The third biggest console JRPG behind Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.
How the hell is it “childish, rehashed crap”?
If you’re an Xbox user, I understand your jealousy of one of the greatest RPG series of all time. I have all the consoles, and I love the SMT series on my PS2 and recently on my 3DS, but how the f*ing hell do you consider a commonly M-rated game to be childish?

              3. youre a child for playing video games in the first place, go kill yourself or go do something productive instead of talking about video games

              4. Super Mario, Pikmin, Retro Studios and The Wonderful 101 are rehashed? Tell me, when is the last time we had a 3D Mario game? 2010. When is the last time we had Pikmin? 2004. What about a Retro Studios game? Also 2010. As for The Wonderful 101, it’s a brand new IP! I hope you’re trolling, because that comment was full of stupid.

              5. Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem and Xenoblade 2 (I assume that’s what it is) is childish and rehashed? Well that’s news.
And nice going there, dismissing Miyamoto’s new IP as well as Retro studio’s project without knowing a single thing about them.

          1. It’s funny how you’re getting the exact reaction you want and everyone here is too stupid to realise that. :/

              1. No .. I shit on your face too ? … and piss on you ? .. and make a fool of you every day .. its easy for me because… you suck .. at videogames and life.

                1. <Has played over 500 days of World of Warcraft
<Says someone else sucks at life.

You are the one being made a fool of. Your replies are so idiotic they make me laugh. But I have no time for unintelligent flith like you. Perma-ignored.

                  1. At least I have won 2 Blizzard tournaments in my life … you won nothing eccept people laughing at you on every post you put on this website :) Give me more.

                    1. and itsnot 500 days fag … its 496. And I remember everyone of them .. because Ive played this game. Like a fucking pro. A PRO .. you cant understand.

      1. What the actual hell is wrong with Nintendo? It’s precisely making STUPID decisions like this that have hindered progress. they NEED a big showing / presence at E3. What about Europe? I saw this E3 as their third and final shot to turn the Wii U around… what on earth goes on in their brains!?

    1. EVERYBODY HIT MIIVERSE ASAP!!!. LETS LET IWATA KNOW WHAT E3 MEANS TO US , THE FANS. GRAB A PITCHFORK AND MEET UP IN THE NINTENDO LAND COMMUNITY!

(i’m not that bothered to be honest :P , but it’s still a bit saddening …)

      1. The angry Nintendrones are uniting on Miiverse, folks… Just when I thought they couldn’t get any more pathetic.

            1. I’m pretty sure people knew about that. Anyway, calling people pathetic for sending requests to a company (because you know, people should just sit there and do nothing and HOPE their wishes will be fulfilled without any effort) is even worse than calling a console feature pathetic.

            2. Listen people, this guy obviously knows nothing of any worthy value about video games and his opinion on them certainly doesn’t matter, so just stop replying to him! If he wants to insist that Nintendo games are rehashed while (I assume) playing games like CoD and thinking the opposite then let him waste away on his computer trying (and failing) to troll many people that are fans of a company that sees their franchises as a passion and not a cash cow! Run along Neutron, double XP is now on CoD and you wouldn’t want to miss it!

      2. I’ll be there!

Also, does anyone believe the Wii U update arrives today? I need the Wii U at Saturday, when I’m celebrating my friends birthday! Would have been nice if the console was super then :D

      3. E3 conferences stages, need to be rented out or booked, it happens right after E3 is over, nintendo cant just say “Meh i wanna stage, get me one,” but i still dont get, does that mean there wont be a live conference, i mean im in australia so im gonna be pretty bummed, if you cant watch it live, also i hope the conference wont just be iwata standing next to some whit back drop doing weird stuff

      4. Well they have Nintendo direct, which I’m sure they will use as a replacement which will also be cheaper and all the games will still be there. I would still love the excitement of the big conference but it’s not like they are just skipping e3

      5. Honestly, after giving it a thought, I can get where Iwata is coming from. Really, the only thing we’ll be missing is hearing the crowd’s reaction.
E3 has been generally bad in the last few years anyway. That only means we’ll be able to get the big announcements (from Nintendo Direct) without worrying about getting awkward guests that have nothing to do with videogames. (Freakin’ Usher…just why Microsoft?)

      6. HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!
Nintendo Direct is the new E3, I am not waiting to get some news on Wii U and 3ds for one day, its BS. People love direct people we don’t have to wait for E3 for news.

If you are a Nintendo fan, you should know this is expected since e3 2012.

  1. Thats it Iwata has to go this is by far the stupidest decision yet. Pathetic. He realizes E3 is where all the press is and if he wants the Wii U to have some recognition it has to be shown here yes?

    1. Nintendo will still be at E3 and the press and other industry members will still get to see what they have there.

But that’s the issue, nobody else will (yes I know sites will still report on some of what they see). Although E3 is really an industry only event, they must know that the conferences play a huge role in the consumer outlook and anticipation for the company’s upcoming products and services.

It’s strange that they’re making a move like this…. Strange indeed.

      :/

      1. I blame ubisoft for this. Nintendo will not show his cards again so the others can fuck them over by bulling the publishers.

        1. Of course it can never be a mistake on Nintendo’s part, it always someone else isn’t it, Damage Control Captain?

          1. Yes because the xbox and ps3 version did not got a free ride during last year Nintendo e3 conference. Nintendo mostly shows exclusives during his press and let the third party talk about his products if they have some exclusives features.

                  1. I had a very good day today .. 8 hours of work … 4 hours of MH3U on my Wii U .. and 5 min to laugh at you ! Bring me more shit to laugh at you tomorrow ok clown ! Dance for me clown.

                    1. 8 hours of work, 4 hours of MHU, 5 minutes of making a fool of yourself, and 24/7 of being a socially rejected freak.

                      1. I don’t have to try any harder. I already am laughing my ass of at your pathetic and uneducated replies. Fight on noble keyboard warrior.

                        1. Isn’t it sad when a Troll is completely oblivious that someone’s trolling him?…oh wait it’s actually hilarious.

        2. Sadly, I agree. I haven’t been sure who’s making some of these awful decisions, but it’s possible it’s Iwata. I think the company needs someone fresh but experienced there.

        3. No no that’s actually quite clever: both other constructors will make their conferences revolve on their upcoming consoles and Nintendo will have nothing new on that topic, so would a side-by-side comparison occur, Nintendo’s conference would obviously feel very dumb compared to Sony’s and Microsoft’s.

By making this decision, Nintendo will basically do 5 to 10 Nintendo Directs in a week, putting it’s news on another level. Plus this structure gives the opportunity to focus on bullet points instead of staging a whole bunch of dull and often boring live performances no-one cares for anymore.

i think it’s a bold move and not necessarily a bad one, but they still need to deliver on the content.

        1. Didn’t Iwata say Mario kart and 3D mario would be playable at this years E3 and Smash bros will be showable in some form ?

            1. i would be happy with some FUCKING HUGE and I mean ASTRO FUCKING NOMICAL Nintendo directs with gameplay of Mario Kart , mario , Windwaker , X , Bayonetta 2 and much more things regarding Wiiu.

            2. “We will use E3 as an ideal opportunity to talk in detail mainly about the Wii U titles that we are going to launch this year, and we also plan to make it possible for visitors to try the games immediately. As a brand new challenge, we are working to establish a new presentation style for E3.”
This part puts me at ease. Though, I was so used to watching their press conference…

            3. yeah as expected, this e3 will be different, i expect a e3 2012 similarity again not in a bad way but it will be different then the e3 i seen.

          1. Now that i read in calm Nintendo will still do a e3 press conference is that it will not be about people standing in front talking about it. It will be like they did whit the wiiu when they gave the date release.

        1. Now that this stupid site got us angry for nothing is time to calm and analize. Nintendo has been treat like shit even whit great anoucements so why would Nintendo do a press conference just so the press can down play it(gamespot) after all i have hear most importand anouncement will be given next month.

      2. Well that’s sorta stupid…..
E3 is watched by more people than Nintendo Directs are.
If you want your console to be popular, announce games in a bigger audience.

      3. FUCK THAT! E3 is about “The Big 3” meaning Microsoft, Sony AND NINTENDO! This is one of their dumbest decisions.

        1. The big three is Sony, Microsoft, and PC gaming. Nintendo is irrelevant except to strongly devoted fanboys.

                1. Mostly Japanese and children. Nintendo is only relevant to hardcore fanboys, children, and their handhelds are popular in Japan.

                      1. Why should I bother listing them? We both know you’d shoot them down as “inconsequential” regardless of who I named.
Not once have you ever given fair evaluation to anyone or anything that was not against Nintendo, and I don’t expect you’d start now, so I’m not going to waste my time.
Instead, I’ll let you keep thinking what you’ve been thinking.
Trolling is bliss for you, apparently, so it saves me time and lets you get on to easier targets.

                1. Its E to the third power. Electronics Entertainment
                  Expo

Three E’s has nothing to do with the big 3. It was E3 before Xbox

                  1. I wasn’t talking about E3 at all. I was talking about the phrase “The Big 3”, which refers to the 3 video game console manufacturers.

          1. Apparently you missed the Wii and DS outselling their competition by a very large margin. You’re an idiot. Also, people who say “Nintendrone” sound like such huge scumbags. Get more creative. oh. and kill yoursel.f

            1. Guess why the Wii and DS sold so well. Casuals! Too bad they are not going to be around to save your disgraceful company.

Ironic you tell me to “get more creative” yet you use “kill yourself” as an insult. Grow up, butthurt fanboy.

              1. Casuals are better gamers than you, and on top of that, unlike you, they haven’t abandoned a smart bet for good entertainment.
Go back to your PC gaming; a pixel-blinded elitist spec-whore like you, is not welcome here.

      4. This is a bad move. E3 is where all eyes are on companies. It’s the time where Nintendo should be bringing out the huge guns.

…And we all thought that the 3DS Directs were to clean up space for the Wii U’s huge explosion of games…

      5. That’s nice. E3 is now a waste if time. Customers can’t wait every year to see what’s new for the video game industry. Even Sony showed the PS4 before E3, and MS will show the Nextbox on May.

        1. You may be up to something also isnt Apple doing something during the same date? If thats true i guess i know why they are doing it.

          1. nah.
why is everyone making a big deal about daft punk i listened to a preview of one of their new songs and it sucks balls.

        1. Yeah we find out but the wii u and 3ds doesnt get recognition because nintendo wants to do small events. E3 brings consumers and i believe nintendo would have won the press conference if they had one and showed their new games that suppose to come out thus bringing more people wanting to buy wiiu and the 3ds

      6. :( i need a hug. No but seriously, Nintendo is foolish to do this. Alot of people watch E3. Its a massive audience.

            1. It could be because I’m a moron, but I don’t see the problem, since that article mentions that they will focus on the games this E3.

          1. Of course i dont dick head. If this site would have actualy given the correct info from the begining i would not have made half the comments.

      7. who else is crying? and to think we were excited about e3. damn. a punch right into the heart. that’s how I feel

      8. Dissappointing. I was hoping we’d get a Smash Wii U announcement. Don’t get me wrong, we probably still will, but it won’t be the same without the deafening cheers from a large room of Nintendo fans to go with it, y’know?

Oh well, maybe Sony will show some cool unexpected shit at their conference.

        1. Yea, they did say smash was going to be show at e3 what gives i guess is another mistranslation from that retard whit the chesse hat.

      9. I’ve watched their E3 conference for years now, its practically tradition! :( This is very disappointing…

      10. So I’m guessing we’ll be getting a Wii U Direct around the time of the expo, which is fine by me. I hope the Nintendo World Store would host a group-viewing of the Direct like previous E3 presentations.

Too, they’ll be at the expo itself with playable content, so we’ll still get to hear impressions of upcoming games.

      11. If this is true, this is very dumb. I like having the epic moment from beginning to end of an E3 press conference ESPECIALLY NINTENDOS CUZ THEY’RE THE ONLY FUCKING COMPANY WHO SHOWS OFF FUCKING GAMES THAT MAKE ME FUCKING THROW MONEY AT MY SCREEN!!!!!!!!

      12. I think people are jumping to conclusions, why wouldn’t you hold a press conference on the biggest gaming stage of the year where all the eyes are on.

I’m guessing he’s probably saying that they won’t depend on E3 to make huge announcements like they used to do, now that they have Nintendo Direct they can just use E3 as a way to demo their software to the press and use Directs to get the news out straight from Nintendo to the fans.

        1. E3 reaches many more people than Nintendo Directs do. Considering Wii U’s extremely poor sales figures, doing ANYTHING that passes on a chance to reach a wide audience is suicide, and frankly, incredibly stupid.

          1. Like I said, I HIGHLY doubt they will be cancelling E3 all together, they just wont use it as a platform to release major news.

They’ll probably hold Directs leading up to their conference date (Exactly what Microsoft is doing with the new Xbox) where they will talk more about what news they’ve revealed and then use it as place to get demos out.

            1. Or during their presentation they will say something among the lines of ”for information about the next games we will release on Wii U and 3DS, watch Nintendo Direct in the next few days trololololo”

        1. I mean, didn’t they say there’d be a demo of Smash Bros. and a couple of other first-party AAA titles at E3? And they think that NOT having their traditional conference is the best route to show off those games?

          Idiots.

          1. They will still have those at E3 for people to play.
They just won’t be up on stage talking for two hours about their financial situation or anything like that.

      13. The White Girl Like It When I Whip It, Whip It

Aw fuck damn. I was looking forward. Someone stop me from drop kicking the elderly out of anger and devastation..

      14. by small i think he means it won’t be hours long, but they will reveal serval titles but more though out after all new mario, mario kart, wind waker, bayonetta and more

        1. “First, we decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past.
During the E3 period, we will utilize our direct communication tools, such as Nintendo Direct, to deliver information to our Japanese audience, including those who are at this financial briefing, mainly focusing on the software that we are going to launch in Japan, and we will take the same approach outside Japan for the overseas fans as well.”

          http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/130425/04.html

          1. so we will get info at e3 ,just not as large as last year. I fine with this see ing how we got lots of gaming news over the year though i hope they focus on the wii u a little it needs support still though mario kart and 3d mario should help

      15. HOW TO DOES NINTNEDO THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA? THAT’S BEYOND RETARDED! WHY?? IT’S OFFICIAL… Nintendo is doomed! This is a really stupid move… E3 is the largest gaming expo in the world…and their just leaving that for some shitty small events? Such a slap in the face for people hyped for their E3…

        1. I don’t think they’re doomed, but it’s idiotic. If they had an epic conference about the WiiU it would ressurrect the console…

        2. Nintendo has finally realized they are irrelevant to a majority the video game community so they will no longer attend industry events. Also, they probably don’t want to be around when developers and journalists laugh at the Wii U like they did at GDC.

            1. Most likely. They will probably announce their pat hectic exclusives on one of their Nintendo Directs A.K.A. The Iwata and Reggie Act Like Retards for Half an Hour Show.

      16. I don’t believe E3 has been a viable place to see anything from Nintendo in the last few years. Either they believe E3 is losing its reputation as a viable expo (a sentiment even Sony and Microsoft must be sharing, given their slightly-less lackluster E3s in the last few years AND their desire to showcase their next-gen consoles OUTSIDE of E3), or they must think their products aren’t meant for E3 anymore. If the latter’s the case, then Nintendo truly is becoming a company that I no longer recognize.

Another thing we have to consider is that, during E3, Apple will be doing their own developer showcase (again, outside of E3, but concurrent). I like to believe this also plays a factor in all of this.

      17. :O ……….. ;-(

WTF ? I was really looking forward to it aswell :( . So there will not be one of their usual big conferences ? :S . Fucking stupid. Maybe they plan to reveal new software via directs or something…

        1. *as well

Nintendo has come to the realization that they are irrelevant to most dedicated video game fans, that is why they are not attending a major industry event like E3.

They can announce their new titles how ever they like, no matter what they will be nothing but, childish, rehashed, and monotonous bullshit.

            1. I am not a troll. I just tell Nintendrones the truths they cannot accept.

I’ve been on this website for a few months but I’ve never seen your ass in the comments section up until now.

              1. He’s right. He’s not a troll. He’s just another little punk that likes to show his ass on the internet. If you were to raise an eyebrow to this turd offline, he’d drop like a bag of rocks.

                  1. No, he’s pretty much got you nailed to the wall by your empty nut-sack with spikes made of pure truth.
                    Deal with it, Neurotic.:P

                  1. Hey Neutron, Nintendo isnt as ‘childish’ as you think. Zelda is not childish, it’s the best gaming series ever made. Metroid is definitely not childish, and same goes with Monster Hunter, ZombiU and plenty others. Honestly, do your research before you start trolling around with other people.

              2. OK you wannabe adarazz, jellybean, aeolus get your own identity and stop trying to live in the shadows of others. You are fucking pathetic you are not teaching anybody a lesson stupid pussy.

              3. Showing Nintendrones the truth?
I think what you meant is actually ”showing people who like Nintendo that because I hate them, everyone else should or else they’re retards”

        1. Well, E3 this year is bound to suck dick. Sony already announced their PS4, Microsoft will reveal the NextBox next month… And now Nintendo says fuck it too. It’s going to suck, there won’t be anything there.

      19. this makes sense actually. they are gonna show off the awesome new games to come and that’s it. both ps and Xbox will be showing off new systems so it makes sense for Nintendo to step back this time and focus on games for America (it is an American program) and announce more at Nintendo directs

      20. Nintendo (Calm voice) THIS IS ULTIMATE BULLSHIT!!! I look forward to this every fucking year you are skipping christmas.were you get big presents and replacing it with a couple of days of tiny presents. this is by far the stupides thing you’ve ever done. and yes I mispelled stupides don’t care

        1. To be honest…though I own a PS3 I don’t care much about Sony itself.
Well…hope we’ll get third party made exclusives…I want news about Persona 5 dammit :(

      21. Im not a fan of this idea. E3 has always been the day where i shut off all communication and turn on to spike and watch Nintendos e3 prestation. Not a fan of this.

      22. Maybe this year should be renamed E2 with supporting act Nintendo :/

I’ll still be watching the event because I love video games but I’m disappointed that Nintendo won’t be there in full force. Maybe it’s a financial decision or something; as I don’t see how this is a benefit towards gamers.

I want to hear what Reggie has to say.

      23. People seem to assume that a giant presentation is the only way to reveal games, even though they mentioned that there will be many things shown off at E3.

        1. The one problem is: they’ll show off a few things…but not games so some people on the web (and uninformed analists) will go ”HOLY FUCK NINTENDO HAS NOTHING TO SHOW THEY ARE DOOOOOOOMED”

      24. This should be interesting. They still got the directs. Plus, don’t they usually have their own PC in NY around the holiday season?

      25. THIS IS WHAT HE SAID: First, we decided not to host a large-scale presentation targeted at everyone in the international audience where we announce new information as we did in the past.

      26. What the f*ck Nintendo!? Your millions of fans have waited all year in anticipation of being blown away by a Wii U software-focused conference and then you tell us that you’re not even going to have one!?

      27. They are going to E3, just that they will have small conferences instead of one single big one. misleading title.

      28. That is the sound of our hopes for a turn around being dashed against the stones!!! Un fucking believable!!!

      29. I mean it’s not like all the new games aren’t going to in are systems & Nintendo most certainly is not doomed!!!

      30. At E3 this year, we are not planning to launch new hardware, and our main activity at E3 will be to announce and have people experience our software. Many people are certainly very interested in learning more about the Wii U titles that we are going to announce. We will use E3 as an ideal opportunity to talk in detail mainly about the Wii U titles that we are going to launch this year, and we also plan to make it possible for visitors to try the games immediately. As a brand new challenge, we are working to establish a new presentation style for E3.

Why are people jumping to conclusions? It is in black and white the E3 conference is about WiiU titles. It will only be about Wii U titles and not about sales figures and marketing.

      31. WHAT he’s saying IS, there will be a Nintendo E3, just not one massive one, there’s going to be a bunch of smaller conferences around E3 time.

      32. lol Look at all these kiddies overreacting. No big conference doesn’t mean no announcements. Hell, they might just take it to Nintendo Direct instead and hold a mega blowout edition. I don’t blame the readers for the misunderstanding, though, given this site’s penchant for horribly misleading titles and selective journalism.

      33. For Nintendo to not go big at E3, an event that is watched TONS more than their own Nintendo Directs, is a fucking terrible idea. Foreal foo’s. Dafuq is this shiyeet. When I was thinking about this E3 for Nintendo I was thinking they would announce TONS of new games, both 3rd party and 1st party. If they DON’T do anything at E3 that’s big, then they’re just gonna get forgotten during all the PS4 and Nextbox E3 events. This is a fahking terrible decision. Dayum Foo’s.

        1. Probably because they know they will be overshadowed by the Xbox and PS4 conferences. All Big N has to show us is games, not any new hardware like Its Rivals

      34. They’re just trying to implement their Nintendo Direct size announcements better. Instead of a huge press event they will make two or three mini conferences very similar to Nintendo Direct. Maybe Nintendo is the first to close off the amazing event E3 was.

      35. Nintendo Directs aren’t even as CLOSE to being good as E3. When you think about E3, you think about big announcements. For Nintendo to leave E3 for SMALLER shows that aren’t even CLOSE to being viewed as much as E3. I can’t even express how much of a fahking ridiculous decision this is.

      36. Alright, just coming out and saying it.
You have NO fucking excuses now, show us at least ONE game, NOW!
Stop fucking around! It’s not like you need to wait for E3, you have no excuses, show us something.

      37. Strangely enough I’m not too bothered about this, and I’m someone who has usually looked forward to E3 solely for Nintendo’s conferences. The Nintendo Directs are a lot like E3, only more frequent and smaller in scale. The only thing I see wrong here is that by not having an E3 conference, Nintendo misses out on a major opportunity to market their Wii U console to more consumers and make others understand it more…and this is something Nintendo could really use right about now. Alas, the recent reshuffling of staff at Nintendo such as Satoru Iwata doubling as NoA’s CEO and Nintendo’s recent HQ move leaves me not all too surprised at such a move. Nintendo clearly knows it needs to focus its allocated resources right now in the best directions possible, although I’m not so sure this particular move was a wise one for them especially on that front.

      38. directly? come on nintendo just what the fuck. what are you gunna do stream us a bunch of fucking nintendo directs. YOU DO RELIZE E3 IS STREAM JUST LIKE DIRECTS ARE SO YOU CANT EVEN GET ANY MORE FUCKING DIRECT! and you just gunna have a huge ass direct about an hour long when you can JUST HAVE THAT ON THE GOD DAMN STAGE AT E3 LIKE THE OTHER COMPANIES!!!!! this is like saying “oh sony and microsoft can have the spotlight at e3, were gunna go do a broadcast that only nintendo fans will watch and miss all of the press we can get with a conference so that we can just fuck everything up CCCCC:” nintendo just realy? is this what your doing now? whos idea was this cuz your gunna find them tied up to the top of a flagpole with a nes controller in his mouth and a wii controller up his ass.

      39. Guys, CALM THE FUCK DOWN!!
Go to the website, Iwata clearly says: That they’re NOT going to launch a new console or release Sale figures & are not gonna talk about their Marketing.
        HOWEVER,
they “Will use E3 as an ideal opportunity to Talk In Detail mainly about the Wii U Titles that we are going to Launch this year, and we also plan to make it possible for visitors to try the games immediately.
As a brand new challenge, we are working to establish a new presentation style for E3.”
U guys are blowing this WAY out of Proportions, we are still getting our Wii U titles Announced during one of their Presentations. O_o

        1. LOL at everyone freaking out. So, what Id much rather have them due a few presentations then just a big one. Makes more sense, they can carry the hype throughout the event rather then just having one big boom and thats it. Where still going to learn the same amount of stuff we would if they had a presentation. & this way they have more control as well… nintendo’s not dumb..

        2. yah i kind of relized just how out of proportion i was making it above lol. i get their focuzing n the titles but im still not sure why they cant just have a press conference to announce the titles. why directs when you can get alot more public eye with a conference. but whatever. i dont run nintendo as long as i get my fucking games im peachy keen

        3. Pitfall near your door

People just need to take a breather and look at the blog more then assume Nintendo will not be at E3. Nintendo will still show upcoming titles for the Wii U at E3 as small press conferences and then give other people around the world more info by using the direct which in my opinion abit more affective then E3 since they can get in touch with their international fans.

      40. This is good and bad. it’s good because 1) PS4 and Xbox 720 will be there, and it will hie the Wii U much less attention. 2) it costs quite a bit of money to do big conferences 3) it gives them time for more directs
Bad because 1) I love the press conferences with a passion. :/ 2) the reporters will pay much more attention to Nintendo at E3 3) I like Nintendo directs but E3 is just soooo cool! It’s gonna be kinda sad. :/

      41. The only thing that comes to mind when trying to reason this out is that Nintendo has to much to show and it wouldn’t all fit in a 1 hour E3 show so they need to break it up…As long as we see it live then this should be okay…

        1. you might be on to something…… thats it just take this medal and plaque and get the fuck out of my office. you made so much sence there unlike my recent rage comment LOL

      42. Meh, Nintendo Directs are more straight to the point and satisfying than anything featuring a pretentious prick like Ancel for 50 minutes straight. Mr. Caffeine, anyone?

        1. i agree. this is kind of an article that has to settle on you. your outraged at first and then you relize, “huh… this aint so bad after all. in fact its pretty cool. could potentialy meen they just have too much to show and need more room to atract the bitches LOL” but yah im still realy hyped for E3 because i finaly relize that this changes nothing but having to see an annoying suit talk for an hour.

        2. I concur. I mean, we’ve been getting at least 1, mostly 2 or 3 Directs a month, so I don’t really mind this. They’re a lot more frequent too. If Nintendo never shows up at E3 again, and just sticks to Directs, I won’t have to be constantly anxious for E3 every year. Yeah, I’m okay with this decision.

      43. They are going to be there, but they are not going to have a big stage. Basically they will be inviting investors, analyst, industry partners, and reporters to show off their software. They said that they will use them to spread out information about them across the web. They will also have games for people to play at the event. So can everybody chill the fuck out?

      44. I’m glad Nintendo isn’t doing a gigantic conference at E3. After many a bad presentation, I realized that E3 wasn’t for me the fan, but for the industry analyst and publishing partner. E3 has also become about beating the other company rather than simply showcasing yourself, and the show in general started missing the point. I felt something like this needed to happen, and I am glad Nintendo can focus on showing off amazing products without having to worry about other companies like Sony or EA getting in the way.

      45. Hey Nintedward!

Where is your “Nintendo will make a huge E3 where they will show everything they have plus third party and I will jizz in my pants then” now ?

      46. I was hyped up for more information about Nintendo’s announced games (Especially the new Smash Bros. and Zelda game for the Wii U) but I can’t say I’m dissapointed.

Nintendo Direct is still a thing.

Also, Bayonetta 2 is still a Wii U exclusive.

WHAT THE FUCK IS A NINTENDRONE? IS THAT NEW PERIPHERAL OR SOMETHING?

      47. Apple did something like with trade shows a few years back around the time the iPhone came out. I am not going to get to excited. It won’t stop them from doing public events…. they were at NYC ComicCon last year and they are schedule for this year too (hint hint).

I know the New Xbox reveal is going to be on May 23rd ahead of E3, so I wonder what their presence will be also, will it be this more streamlined style that we are seeing with tradeshows.

      48. i truly belive everyone is over reacting. we still going to see wii u games & 3ds games. they just changing things up as long as a 3d mario/kart & smash are seen everything will be fine.

      49. Its a bit sad cuz the E3 buzz is innevitable, but… does E3 really matter that much at this point? E3 is good for hype and all but ultimately each company can reveal stuff at their own strategic moments (and they are) and not have to canibalize each other in one sole event. If they can pull off a good lineup with these focused showcases then I won’t miss them doing one big show.

        1. When your console sales are in the toilet is matter greatly. We ALL talked about how much butt Nintendo was gonna kick at E3. We can’t back-peddle now and act like it doesn’t matter because it does. They screwed up yet again.

They trolled us. All these damn 3DS Nintendo Directs. No release dates for Wii U games that were suppose to be in the launch window. Maybe we all set ourselves up for failure, but we have a helluva lot of help. This is inexcusable. Plain and simple. This coming from a hardcore Nintendo-fan that has defended them up and down this board. But I tell it like it is. This is total BS. Whatever lame mini-shows they do better start like yesterday and better be freaking fantastic.

      50. This was a somewhat confusing order High Command issued but as always we suspect they have good reasons…

And obviously it’s only western gamers that get horrified by this since all they know is basically “Show Offs” and nothing more…

High Command already confirmed a big line up of games for Wii U and 3DS and yet everyone seems to forget this and only concentrates on one “negative” decision…

This is what you get in a Xbot infected region, even a partmof our forces are getting corrupted by them…

Don’t you have any patience? or you all really that spoiled and pathetic?…

        1. sadly agree i for one am not effect by this because 1 they never said they won’t announced new games 2 nintendo direct to me is a far better e3 only for the big n & 3 i honestly be broke because of 3ds & upgrading to a xl, alone this year so if they did have alot of new games i most likely only be able to buy like 4.

      51. I think Nintendo’s waiting for the PS4 and Xbox to come out so they will be viewed as competitors, and also viewed as a newer brand. This actually sounds like a good gameplan to attack the casual gamer market. They just want everything new, and since there will be a price cut soon, it just makes more sense to by your kids a 300 or so dollar Wii U other than a $500 Xbox/PS4.
Also inviting the 3rd party fans over with the price cut and games coming out at the same time as PSbox.
If Nintendo plays its cards right, I see the Wii U becoming the next DS or N64.

      52. Whats the use of a lemgthy presentation when you already got the 3ds and software out of the way… now its time\to show the WIIU games… I think itsd a good focus on software while evryone else will be showing CGI and cutscenes, and tech demos lol. I think its a master plan Nintendo has up its sleeve!

      53. As long as they keep their promise and show the SSB4 footage, I really don’t mind. Besides, that January Nintendo Direct was better than any recent E3s, and if they could pull something off of that calibur, I wouldn’t mind a smaller not-“showy-offy” E3 this year.

But in the past, company stocks have risen or dropped after the E3 Press Conference. Not hosting a major one might not look good for investors.

      54. o_O……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

        …………………….wow.

If you gave me a week I couldn’t tell you all the reasons why this doesn’t make any sense at all. If they weren’t planning on doing a major conference at E3 what the hell are they waiting for then in terms of release dates for new games?

I can’t defend them anymore. Iwata needs to go. Like yesterday. He has no idea what he is doing anymore.

        1. Agreed. Iwata needs to go. His time is up. He had a good run though. We need someone with some balls at the helm and not oblivious to the rest of the world. He may have just killed the Wii U with this decision. It wont matter how many games they release if nobody cares anymore. They are skipping “The year of E3”. Sony will capitalize on this. MS too. What a huge mistake, just like their VC list reveal. I have supported Nintendo for my entire life lol but I think thats about to change. Im more interested in Sony and MS @ E3 then I have ever been, Mostly MS, because PS4’s controller is weak sauce but ya never know they could still surprise at E3. If MS has a controller “similar” to Wii U, i’ll be selling my WiiU. I can’t handle anymore disappointments from Nintendo, such a shame.

      55. Well, as long as they’re still going to be AT E3, I guess that’s what’s important. Though Nintendo’s press conferences are always what MADE E3 for me.

      56. I really can’t understand this, at all. I don’t how this is a good move, it talks, a lot, about missunderstanding the E3 and it really is now. Nintendo will not be covered, at all, by CNN or Fox or whatever and that’s what they need now. Gamecube lived only because of Nintendo fans but this gen is way too expensive for the same to happen. They need the exposure, they do. If they don’t have mediatic exposure and Microsoft and Sony decide to throw a nice marketing campaign is all over. We are also talking about how the Wii U has being ignored by all major publishers with new IPs, it’s all old ports so far. The online structure of the Nintendo Network isn’t good enough, at all, to compensate the lack of coverage that E3 give at least for a general audience.

I would like to say I’d like where this is going but I don’t and I don’t understand what does this means as an overall strategic movemente.

Now, it is also true that E3 is becoming way too expensive and that both Sony and Microsoft are looking forward to leave or cut the gigantic prices of these events but Nintendo should be last one doing this movemente, in my opinion. Both Microsoft and Sony have the power to make their product visible via other products, Nintendo doesn’t. If this works I bet, however, that Sony and MS will do the same.

        1. This year Sony and Microsoft don’t HAVE to have a large presence at E3 because like you said they have done a better job getting in touch with the media, and by the time E3 rolls around both the PS4 and 720 will been revealed. So all they need to do is just talk about a few games and that is it.

This was Nintendo opportunity to have the stage ALL TO THEMSELVES with the press watching to explain in detail what the Wii U is, why it is different from the Wii, what it’s capabilities are, and we consumers should buy one.

It’s not to say that the strategy they have won’t work, but I personally don’t see how it will. It just doesn’t make any sense.

      57. Pitfall near your door

Even if Nintendo won’t hold a major conference this year doesn’t mean they won’t show software lineup for the Wii U and maybe the 3DS if they have time…does anyone read the whole blog after the title?

      58. still dont get why they chose this rout, its like they are throwing money away. making a big conference advertises the wii u more. making private conferences and nintendo directs wont do shit.

        1. Pitfall near your door

They are focusing only on the upcoming titles for Wii U and 3DS by making individual small press conferences for the U.S market then while it’s happening they will make a Direct for Japan and EU to showcase the games they will be releasing and maybe even seeing E3 live and also they are letting fans have a go at the games after the conferences…To some people this might be a different approach but it’s really no different to E3 and they only want to focus on games only then financial crap that pretty much no one want to hear…they might have to explain why the Wii is different to the Wii U to some numbskulls out their who have been asking questions like that. It may be different but i see this being profitable fir them and also it probably saves them abit more money to at the mean time.

          1. “they might have to explain why the Wii is different to the Wii U to some numbskulls out their who have been asking questions like that.”

            SOME?

How about 75% of their entire previous Wii fanbase.

            1. Pitfall near your door

I can understand why they would have been confused at that thought, it did make it fell like an accessory to the Wii by it’s name but i think Nintendo will tell their fans the difference.

      59. All of you ppl are stupid as fuck, It’s called doing research. Not to mention quite a few ppl already explained and showed evidence of what’s really going on. THERE IS STILL A NINTENDO E FUCKIN 3. IT IS GOING TO BE ABOUT THE UPCOMING TITLES ONLY. THE SHIT THAT PPL WANT TO HEAR. NOT FINANCIAL BULLSHIT OR ANYTHING ELSE. JUST GAMES AND ON TOP OF THAT THEY REVEAL MORE INFORMATION IN A DIRECT THAN ANYTHING ELSE. CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW MUCH RELEVEANT INFORMATION WAS REVEALED DURING THE PAST E3S THAN A DIRECT. I DOUBT IT SO SHUT THE FUCK UP. YA’LL ARE SOME PIECE OF SHIT CRYBABIES ACTING LIKE THE WORLD IS DOOMED OVER A FUCKIN PRESS CONFERENCE. BUNCH OF SHITTY HYPOCRITES TALKING THEY WANT GAMES BUT READY TO SELF DESTRUCT IF THERE’S NO E3. E3 DOES’NT EFFECT THE FACT THAT WE’RE STILL GONNA GET ALL THE AMAZING TITLES THEY ARE WORKING ON. SO SHUT UP

      60. What’s funny is that the past 2 Nintendo Directs generated about the same hype and awesomeness as one of their great E3s but ppl don’t realize it cuz they’re so damn use to E3

      61. Is everyone in here Stupid? Read before you post.
Nintendo will STILL be at E3. Their conference wont be that long, it will just show the games and not the boring investor information.
Calm Down. E3 isn’t that special how you all describe it to be. Don’t be stupid. Read before you post anything.

        1. I can watch a highlight reel on youtube. I want a HUGE show, The PRESS wants a HUGE show, Gamers want to be amazed and then after that have their “minds blown” by some crazy light show game announcement, we deserve this for spending our time and money on their products.

      62. fucking nintendo, you have no new titles for wii u!!!! thats why you arnt having an e3 conference!!! if there is nothing in store than….. your fucked

            1. Pitfall near your door

I think they want to just focus more to the Wii U’s software and maybe 3DS if they are planning to show anything for the 3DS, it’s just going to be abit more smaller then their last conferences but mostly just focusing on the games that they need to announce. The Direct is for people outside the US to get brief of what games that were announce in E3 to people who can’t make it and pretty much a Direct is similar to an E3 conference because they annouce titles coming for their systems. It’s different and i don’t blame you for thinking that way but i think it still can be profitable for Nintendo to try this because other then games i really don’t think they would have anything else to announce.

              1. nintendo just.. i dont even care what happens to them, its to the point where they are just horrible, i dont just want mario and even zelda is not as good as it was, but noa is the worst, thats the biggest problem if there is good titles they wont leave japan, or if one will get in europe noa wont care and wont bring it. like ni nu kuni was originally a ds game, nintendo didnt give a shit. then its made for ps3, gets brought over and sells great.

      63. Sony and Microsoft reps must be very happy at this news. With the exception of Nintendo’s big titles, the majority of focus will be on the new consoles and the type of software only they can support.

      64. This really sucks.. I was thinking this E3 could be way better than 2012 E3, but if it’s little, then they might of ruined that chance…

But if they still show those titles for Wii U, and 3DS, it could still be alright for me. I mean it wouldn’t make sense to announce a new console right when the Wii U came out.

      65. What the fuck, that was a stupid move.
What is the reasoning of pulling out of a massive gaming event like E3?
I thought the lack of Wii U news recently was down to the fact that Nintendo were going to pull out all the big guns at E3.
Now I don’t know what to think.
This is so disappointing, E3 was the most exciting gaming day of the year, and what? Like a month before they pull the plug on all that built up hype? WTF!!!

      66. Pingback: Nintendo: nessuna grande conferenza all’E3 2013 | Another Castle

      67. The games are still gonna be announced, they said that themselves, but this is just an odd move. Once again they keep discrete, and i don’t know how that in any way is gonna help them. Sony will most likely show the PS4’s final design, plus it’s games, maybe even new ones. Microsoft is revealing the next console in may, so they will most likely go the same route like Sony. Nintendo are the ones with established franchises. A glimpse of Mario games and Zelda games would draw a lot of attention, why don’t they know this themselves!?

      68. First the news “Nintendo Accepts Responsibility For Not Trying “Hard Enough” To Explain Wii U” and THEN THIS? What the fuck is wrong with you Nintendo? You never learn… one failure after another. I thought they would reveal some awesome new games for Wii U to not stay completely behind the reveal of PS4 and Xbox 720 with their lineups. Are they afraid of staying in the shadows? But with this they DO.

Perhaps they just say it to keep the expectations low and then they come out with great new stuff? I hope so.

      69. Meh. The contents will be here. This is just a matter of presentation, of which I couldn’t care less. It’ll still be a hell of a week during which a dozen of enormous games will be shown.

      70. his is good for game news faithfuls like us, but it is terrible for their image. It makes them look sooo weak, as if they are giving up before the race even starts.
They’re gonna keep the die hards, but they won’t be expanding their market much. Let’s hope they get better commercials and better third party support this time around because they obviously aren’t doing much in the way of huge public blowouts that the news-outlets pay attention to.

      71. There will be tonnes of stuff to announce and loads of games coming out this year, but we already know about most of them, such as Mario Kart and Zelda and Pokemon X and Y, so I understand why they’re not doing a major one, but it’s still a shame, I’d rather have all the announcements all at once. The Nintendo Directs are great but I would prefer a full E3 presentation.
I guess it’s ok though since we know most of the cool stuff that’s coming out, and E3 this year can be used to showcase them further and allow people to play them games and see more footage of them etc

      72. Wow this comment section sure is full of fanboy dribble.

So Nintendo probably doesn’t have many major titles to announce during E3 so that’s why they’re not showing up.Obviously, if you have a strong lineup and you know Sony and Microsoft’s would be weak of course you would show up and make yourself look great and get people to buy your hardware and software. It’s not like Sony and Microsoft have always had strong conferences so if Nintendo misses one, I’m sure they will be okay… for now.

      73. This was my fear on my last few posts. I think that Nintendo needs a reshuffle in the upper management (and they did sort of) but they also need new blood with fresh ideas. I also was asking what if Nintendo does not have something BIG to surprise us in E3, we continue to wait?!? This announcement really is sad. I own a Wii U and I want it to succeed. Nintendo needs to encourage ios/android developers and lure all the casuals to “upgrade” from Wii to Wii U and also make people realize that they will get as better gaming experience through this console AND be able to play their angry birds and temple run on the gamepad or tv. The big thing is form them to show off theit highsocres and achievements. How many game requests do you get from facebook? How many posts stating their scores?

Add more apps just like google streetview and netflix (which they already have), exercise/calorie/diet counters, etc. Something that would make people turn the console on everyday. 3DS line up is so strong that some fans are holding off in buying Wii U and are just content with the handheld. More Cross-play is the solution to this just like Monster Hunter. Just my 2 cents…

      76. I don’t understand the comments around here. It really doesn’t matter which console anybody thinks is better. Let’s just all agree that they’re all great and not worry so much about it. We’re all gamers, and in the end, isn’t that all that really matters? Whether it’s COD, Zelda, or Portal, just play what you want and quit raging about people not sharing your interest in them. I’ll play any game as long as it’s fun, no matter how childish or offensive it might be. Is the true purpose of games not to have a good time? Instead, people just get angry about them. Seriously, people need to calm their selves.
