Nintendo 64 And Game Boy Advance Games Coming To Wii U Virtual Console

nintendo_64_controller

The Wii U Virtual Console officially launched yesterday and, so far, includes only NES and Super NES games. Nintendo promises that, in the future, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo 64 titles will be added to the service. When they are released on Wii U, Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance games will feature off-TV play, which means you’ll be able to play them on your GamePad controller – without the need for a TV screen. Let’s hope Nintendo confirms that Nintendo GameCube games will also be added to the Wii U Virtual Console.

        1. Dont forget panzer dragon and shinning force 3… man sega should be doing a killing bringing his old games back more often of course on Nintendo consoles.

      1. Yes definitely want shenmue on there as well as many other dreamcast games.Am absolutely over the moon with n64 games my second favourite console of all time behind super nes.

      2. Of course Shenmue was Dreamcast but Agreed. I could play gamecube on my wii. My saturn would need plugging in again.

  1. Are all N64 games 4:3 ? I wish we could have 16:9 even if its not its native aspect ratio. Just an option to strech it like you can with DVD’s.

Oh well. N64 games on the gamepad will be too much fun.

    1. The Nintendo Reviewer

Natively all N64 are 4:3 but some of the later ones that came out in 1999, 2000, and 2001 have the option of 16:9. DK64, Banjo Tooie and Perfect Dark are examples of this. So it really depends on the game. And if Nintendo includes that option for the N64 virtual console games that will be on the Wii U.

  2. Shoot they will probably add a blasted 3 dollars just to transfer N64 games that should be free. Never thought I’d say this, but Nintendo changed.

    1. You are getting the same game, but paying extra for NEW features. There is nothing wrong with that and if you don’t want the new features then don’t rebuy.

  3. Hey Nintendo
    Hey
    I love you man
    But one thing…..
PUT GCN GAMES ON THE VIRTUAL CONSOLESLDFISUGOULAYFDSCOYUHVS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I’m hoping for Pokemon from both systems, along with Banjo and what not that we missed out on with the Wii’s virtual console

    1. Microsoft owns Banjo and everything else Rare related now. So no Rare games on the Nintendo Virtual Console sadly.

        1. Maybe takamaru64 is right since Donkey Kong Country series was pulled from Wii Shop Channel. License change over the years. This is why Sim City, R-Type series, and other games are pulled from Wii Shop Channel. Hopefully this is not the case and if it is then hopefully Nintendo will renew the licenses.

          1. No, the rights to DKC are completely held by Nintendo. It’s their series and Rare was developing for their series. That’s like saying Nintendo couldn’t put Zelda: Minish Cap on their if Capcom became a first-party to Sony or Microsoft.

            1. Nintendo said that donkey kong country returns will have surprises what if it is the snes games unlockeables?

    1. I can’t wait for it dude. I’ve been wanting to replay it again recently cause its been probably like 10 years since I last replayed it. I have it on my wii u from my wii transfer but I’ll wait to play it cause the gamepad and pro controller are better than the classic controller.

    1. I wonder how that work for VC since all of them support “save slate” or “save slot” on Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. I mean people can just use “save slate” or “save slot” right before trading even know the game save itself but you can reload the old “save slate” or “save slot” to go back were you are before the trading happen. Also I am wondering if Nintendo going includes multiplayers for Nintendo 3DS VC games in the future.

    1. That is a awesome series! I love Megaman Battle Network 3 even on Blue or White version. I still play that game too. You gotta love that game in master style! ;)

      1. YESSSSSS I played battle network 3 first then I started to play the rest of the series…I loved the music from capcom

    1. I can’t wait either! The only GBA games I ever played were Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald! Played them 6 years straight every day of my life! Kisses! 💋

      1. Emerald is my all-time favourite game. I hope it comes to the eShop because I had to leave it and my GBA in England when I moved away.

  5. In other news I get my 3rd Miiverse ban today and I still don’t even have my Wii U back from being fixed lol…

  6. Super Mario 64, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, and Episode I: Racer, Star Fox 64, NBA HangTime, WipeOut 64, Jet Force Gemini, Donkey Kong 64, NBA Courtside with Kobe Bryant…. those were few of my favorite N64 Games ever made. Oh and one more thing. R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-Ridge Racer 64!!!!!!!

  7. I think WindWaker HD says no GameCube VC. They’d rather upscale them for HD rereleases like what was done for PS3/X360.

    1. Except Wind Waker HD isn’t an upscaled version, they built the game from ground up based on Wind Waker. Everything’s remade.

    2. Uhuh. N64 and backwards needs rebuilding from the ground up to be made in HD whereas Gamecube games just need a bit of spit and polish and they’re ready.

    3. No, because Wind Waker HD is upscaled and totally redone. VC games aren’t. They could still do it. 💋

    4. Your comment is valid, however LOZ ocarina of time argues against your point .. it was on the VC of the Wii yet it got remastered for the 3DS .. so i partially agree with you sir

    1. I think the reason why there aren’t much N64 titles due to the Wii limited memory. Hopefully this is not the case when it come to N64, Gamecube (even though Gamecube is not confirmed), and other consoles. I could see a lot of N64 and Gamecube titles start coming in the future.

  8. if they put the dragon ball z LoG saga, the sonic advance series, and pokemon ruby/sapphire/emerald on virtual console U, I will shat bricks of silver

  9. And the launch is gonna consist of the same games on wii. They should have brought out gamecube support by now.

  10. I’d really love playing Resident Evil 1 the gamecube remake, in 1080p, or on my gamepad, that would be very freaking awesome.

  11. nintendo wont ad any gamecube games hardly, thats why i bought a lot of them a while ago because i saw a lot of games go up in price, like i re bought windwaker for 18$ same with paper mario and luigis mansion, tales of symphonia for like 20$ same with eternal darkness. also the baten kaitos games got both for around 20$. most of those probably wont be on there. so i bought them before they got high on price which seems some of them have

    1. Not trying to sound like an ass but what if they release a ton of GC games and your money will be spent in vain? You cant realy just say what nintendo will do because we just dont know. Your quite the pessimist lol

      1. i would of only lose 5$ on each title and no nintendo wont release most of those games i mentioned beside the games they made. yoshis island didnt even come out

      1. yeah thats exactly why i re bought some of them and bought some that i never had, because of i knew that they would shoot up in price when the wii was over

  12. The White Girl Like It When I Whip It, Whip It

what was big N thinkin with that controller? 3 handles? can’t fuck with gamecube controller.

  13. im waiting for us to be capable of making our own communites on miiverse, called “BRING GAMECUBE GAMES TO WIIU”

THIS WAY NINTENDO WILL GET THE POINT LIKE THEY DID WITH EARTHBOUND AND BRING THE DAMN GAMES.

I WANT FIRE EMBLEM FOR GAMECUBE

  14. I’m really excited for the Game Boy Advance games. I really want to play some of the games that I missed out on like Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Tales of Phantasia, and Drill Dozer. Hopefully they bring other GBA updated ports as well like Final Fantasy V Advanced.

  15. I don’t see my self buying any of old games due to the OVERPRICED in my opinion. $5-7 for nearly 20 year old games GTFO. I think they would rack up far more sales for a $1

    1. Actually, the games themselves now are priced very highly for new, working copies. GCN games are now around forty dollars for a working copy, NES is anywhere from 20-70$, and some N64 Titles are over $100. Its pretty fair priced to be able to not only condense your collection, but also retire your consoles, and have updated features. IE, $5 to replace a cartridge, software that will always work, retiring an old console, and consolidating your collection in a small convenient space. Seems like a pretty fair trade to me.

  16. I kno its not the right place to talk about this but … All my games are loading 100% faster now on my Wii U… its incredible :)

  17. Nintendo, release yoshi island (super Mario world 2) already, glob I’ve wanted it for so long, wars the problem, there’s no copy rite issue for it, I’m sick of this, it better release this time on virtual console u, cause I want it so badly, also they shoul release star fox 2, even tho unreleased it would be sick to play it on console and not a pc, yoshis island hereto come, ill makes penguin, give me my yoshi

  18. Wouldn’t it make more sense to put GBA games on the 3DS eShop instead but anyway I guess it’s better than nothing.
Also I really do hope Nintendo will release GCN games on the Wii U eShop and it would be nice if they started to release Saturn and Dreamcast games on the Wii U Virtual Console in the future. NiGHTS or Sonic Adventure on the GamePad would be awesome.

  19. Hope they do it soon! I realise they’ve only just released the VC but adding a couple of GBA and N64 games would be great!

Then I recon in about 6 months we’ll have GC games. To be fair the Wii U has only been out about 5 months, so within the first year of release, it has had a lot of decent updates and will hopefully have loads of cool VC games (and of course brand new games coming soon too)!

Anyway I have a question, I recently got Majora’s Mask on the Wii mode on my Wii U, if they release MM (and other N64 games) for VC, will the same offer still apply where you can pay a much lower price to have it “upgraded” to the Wii U VC version? Just wondered.

  20. I cant wait to have the chance to own Mario64 for the fourth time. The VC is looking to be a joke. Anything thats out on Wii and 3Ds I want put to the back of the queue, and I think its pathetic there’s no word on GC titles, beside a few N64 titles I only care about GC Games.

  23. Will it be all N64 and GBA games? Like donkey Kong 64 and other n64/gba games that weren’t on the wii? I welcome this anyway but this will make it even sweeter!

  24. face it guys, even if gba comes to wii u it will only be titles like zelda mario metroid and some others, they will mostly likely not have pokemon because it will cost a lot of money to relicense them, plus we haven’t seen original game boy pokemon games on the 3ds vc.

  25. Terranigma needs to come out on virtual console, we were lucky to get its PAL snes release in australia but im pretty sure it was never released in america, its definately a stand out RPG
