SEGA has announced that a remake of the original Sonic the Hedgehog will soon be hitting the Nintendo 3DS. The updated game features stereoscopic 3D visuals, and in it, Sonic is equipped with his Spin Dash move and Homing Attack. Arguably, the most notable additions are the inclusions of a save function and the ability to personalize each button’s function. 3D Sonic the Hedgehog will be released in Japan next week, on May 15th, on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS.

      1. uhh hello ! show sum respect 4 nintendo of amarica becaus thay r workin hard to get it over hear this sec . be patientt

      1. Appearance wise, that is. Apparently, this game proves that Sonic Generation retconned when he learned the Homing attack (Classic Sonic started practicing at the end of that game).

        1. And the way I see it, it looks like an updated re release of the game (with similar visuals, but more content).

    1. oh i see what you did there the actual 3d modeled sonic games suck and u took it and said 3d as in 3rd dimension popping out and shit but you really mean both as in better then the 3d modeled ones.

  1. Wait, so, it’s the Classic, first game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, but with Spin Dash and Homing Attack, plus button mapping and 3D effects?

    ……
I can see this being a favorite for speed-runners, now that they’ve got those moves to improve their times with.

      1. Yeah-actually absolutely nowhere has it been revealed he has a homing attack. So I wouldn’t worry, haha. I think this article’s writer just misinterpreted the new features.

  2. SortableShelf19 (Should probably get a 3DS)

    I’m a huge Sonic fan and I’d love to get this. But I own a 3DS. ._.

  3. SEGA you live on on Nintendo. :). Battles with SEGA runs was real back then, recess blows and scuffles. Not this Internet punk drone and xbot short circuit foolery.

          1. Yes, there are a lot of Mario games. Now tell me how New Super Mario Bros. U and Mario and Luigi: Dream Team are the same in the slightest. Or how The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and the Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks are the same. Tell me how Kirby’s Epic Yarn and Kirby’s Return to Dream Land are the same. Yarn Yoshi and the next Yoshi’s Island don’t look to be the same. “All Nintendo games are the same.” Learn to troll better.

      1. Thanks for asking. Carracers like GT,NFS,Forza,Juice. Fightinggames like KOF,SF,VF. Adventuregames like ICO,Shadowofthecolossus, the journey and of course Shootersgames (NOT FPS) like RadiantSilvergun. Anything else dumbfuck?

        1. The only games up there worth mentioning were Street Fighter[barely], ICO, and Journey.

You’ve seriously got to expand your gaming horizons before you go around trying to bash established series that still sell well to gamers of all ages.

    1. From the article:

Update: Desilets has now commented on his departure, telling Polygon that he was in fact fired.

“Contrary to any statements made earlier today, this morning I was terminated by Ubisoft,” Desilets said. “I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings. This was not my decision. Ubisoft’s actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team and for my game.”

      1. Sooooo, yeah, first Ubisoft makes some BS deal to draw out the release of Rayman, and now they do this.
Dick move, Ubisoft. ACIII might not have been the crowning moment of the series, but the creator deserved more respect than a dismissal that abrupt.

      1. I know, right?
        Wasn’t the video freaking AMAZING?
I totally had Sanity’s Requiem flashbacks, and it was glorious.
This is almost akin to the feeling of bliss I got from the announcement of Duck Tales Remastered.

    1. Strong dreams huh? I actually share this dream too, sonic adventure being on the U, 3DS, 360, etc in a full HD remodeling

  4. If there’s one thing worse than a Sonic The Hedgehog game, it’s playing it on the 3DS and seeing the 3D flicker in and out because the screen isn’t being held straight and secure. These games are already hard enough to tell what’s going on (because of Sonic’s speed) without the 3D flickering in and out. Ugh! (- _ -)

    1. Turn the 3D off if you don’t like it. Anyways, SA2 is better than 1. Put them together in the same game though.

  5. Might be worth it with that nifty save function! Ive certainly never been able to beat the game! 💋

    1. If they do include it, hopefully we can turn it off, similar to the (horrid) GBA remakes original/anniversary mode or Sonic CD’s remake’s multiple gameplay options.

    2. It could speed up the speed runs of the game and allow easier access to certain areas.
Heck, since it’s a remake, they might toss in a few new levels to boot.
Keep an open mind about it; if they do include it and you can’t turn it off, then there’s no reason why you can’t just avoid using it, right?

  8. Hopefully they don’t fuck it up this time, like they did with Sonic Genesis. Seriously, they did not need to try and impress the fans there by creating a whole new engine. That just killed it.
