Nintendo president Satoru Iwata claims that the company has spoken to over one thousand indie developers about bringing their titles to Wii U. Iwata says they were approached regarding the Nintendo Web Framework which was announced during the Games Developers Conference in March. The Nintendo Web Framework uses a number of open web technologies, including HTML 5 and JavaScript. Here’s what he had to say.
“We have received great feedback. We have been in contact with more than a thousand parties.”
“Even though software for dedicated gaming devices has become advanced and complex, we have been working on those new approaches to expand the range of developers for the platform. As digital business expands, there will be even more opportunities for us to do business with small, independent software developers.”

Indie developers are the start of new third party talents, and even whole new third party companies.
Any company that helps them survive and thrive stands to get themselves a certain amount of clout with said up-and-coming devs, so for all three of them, supporting indies is a form of future-proofing for future epic third-party titles.
It’s great to hear that Nintendo is getting serious about this particular field.

Ignoring 3D Mario on 3DS has sold 8 million copies. Never under estimate Mario. Mario sells world over, remember the big blue marble we live on is not America only. 105 million Wiis sold, 165 million DSs sold, 45 Million 3DSs sold todate. 6/12/13 yesterday, animal crossing new leaf has sold 4X the normal 3DS in three days. Nintendo will be here, even when we get the first African console.
Nintendo should make a Nintendo Direct solely for the Indie games once it reaches critical mass (high quality indie games I should say). It will help in the promotion of these games in Wii U.

Sony and nintendo have the right idea going after the indie market more and more third party exclusives are gonna disappear and indie gaming is on the rise, seems like inde gaming could be a quick easy way to bag exclusives.
