Nintendo’s Free-To-Play Game Is Steel Diver

steel_diver

Shigeru Miyamoto has told IGN that Nintendo’s free-to-play title will be the Nintendo 3DS launch game, Steel Diver. Miyamoto told the publication that the free-to-play model would ultimately change the game’s design. He stated that they are looking at a number of ways they can take the game from a multiplayer perspective. Miyamoto concluded by saying that the free-to-play Steel Diver is something that they are hoping to show off relatively soon.

“There is something we’re doing with the Steel Diver idea that I think is going to open things up with that game… It’s going to be very fun. We’re exploring from a perspective of where we can take that from a multiplayer standpoint – it’s going to have this four-player battle mode that I think is going to be very interesting.”

Thanks to everyone that sent this in.

  1. Will it be 3d or 2d like the 3ds game cause it could work well if is fully 3d. World of submarines maybe?

  2. I thought it would be Animal Crossing game. I was just filling enquette about Animal Crossing and they were asking question about free to play games.

    1. before the 3DS was released, i got to try it in a promotion, but i don’t remember how it was, i was more focused on things like AR games and the other demos…

    2. Its fun but a little too short. The part where you hold up and turn the 3DS to shoot subs with the periscope is cool.

Picked it up at Bestbuy awhile back for $5 along with Metroid Other M, so it was more than worth that amount.

      1. I’ve seen it for like £5 and thinking about picking it up. It has a 3D case ffs , so that might be enough for me to purchase!

        1. Just one thing to note, that the side scrollers do control like a sub and its not incredibly deep, but for like $10-20 it is worth it.

    3. it’s not bad at all, but it feels kinda rushed. it is an interesting concept and i’m glad they’re going back to it

  3. steel diver… well, it is relatively new (as there is only the 3DS game), but i expected something “newer”… well, they can take this chance to decide how their free-to-play system will work and also it is a chance for steel diver to become a bit more popular (well, i don’t know if it’s popular right now)

  4. They should make this game for iOS and Android. I think it would sell much better than on 3DS and Wii U…It seems more like a app than a full-game.

  5. Mmmhhh… it always looked lame to me but I never played it. But as it will be free, I am going to give it a shot and maybe, just maybe I will like it.

    1. You know whats really funny? I was
just thinking to myself. “I wonder if this Steel Diver game will be featured in SSBU/3DS as a stage?” haha! Guess great minds think alike! I would ‘t mind this game as a Super Smash stage, because it seems to be getting a bunch of attention now. 💋

      1. Indeed! And thanks for the compliment, you got a great mind too (>^w^ )>
It will be funny to see/think how a Steel Diver stage will be. Introduction of a fun and un-serious underwater battles with submarines shooting missiles at you? A Battle inside a submarine, which is getting attacked and the submarine might get flooded?
Now I feel like playing Steel Diver again <3

    1. it was alright, felt kinda rushed, and unpolished, but it was a fun idea and something different from Nintendo. The sequeal will hopefully “plug the leaks” that the 1st game had. lol plug the leaks, get it? because it’s a submarine!? yeah i’m going to stop now
