Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime doesn’t think there’s any additional pressure on Wii U since Sony announced that the PlayStation 4 will be $399.99. Reggie says it’s just business as usual and Sony and Microsoft are going to do what they’re going to do. He concluded by saying that the main question he asks himself is how do we satisfy the needs of all of the consumers out there with Nintendo products?
“It puts no pressure on us at all. Sony and Microsoft are going to do what they’re going to do. My bet is that there are going to be more announcements the closer we get to whatever their launch date is.”
“From my perspective, I can’t focus on that. I have to focus on: How do we satisfy the needs of all of the consumers out there with Nintendo products? How do we make sure they understand our proposition? How do we make sure they’re excited about the software that we offer? And from that standpoint we’re going to let our competition do what they’re going to do.”
“I would say the big difference in the Wii launch vs. the Wii U launch is that, at the [Wii] launch we had a fantastic game in Wii Sports that really helped people understand the magic of the Wii Remote, and we had Zelda. We had Zelda there at the launch to satisfy the [core] player and when you look at what we had at the launch for Wii U, yes we had a Mario game–a fantastic Mario game that has a very strong attach rate to the hardware–but there wasn’t as many opportunities for the [core] player to really get behind the system.”

All they need is GAMES to win the console war. Nintendo is in the best position right now, they will have the most exclusives and the biggest library also they are the cheapest right now. Nintendo has got a pretty big advantage but nobody seems to realize it.
They could have all advantages right now but without proper marketing to let people know, it’s almost all for nothing.
They need to refocus effort on educating the public about the Wii U, its games, and features through aggressive marketing. That’s an area they are struggling in right now.
It still bugs me that a couple of weeks before the U’s launch, ppl didn’t even know Ninten was getting ready to release the U.
Reggie answered in a polite way at least. I’m glad that he didn’t take any cheap shots at the other consoles. He has the right mentality at this point. You shouldn’t stress over the competition too much and just focus on releasing great games for your consoles. In the end that’s what it all boils down too

Wii U’s sales will start picking up when Game & Wario hits and will continue through August and the rest of the fall with Super Luigi U, Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, The Wonderful 101, Just Dance ’14, Wii Party U, Sonic Lost World and Wind Waker HD which will all lead in nicely to the big boys during Holiday season: Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Watch Dogs, Wii Fit U. They don’t need to feel any pressure. Games sell systems.
I think the sales will pick during the holiday. I don’t think any games released during the summer will be a “console seller.”

How will the Wii U look like worse value? It will have a bigger library of games and more appealing games when PS4 launches, it will be $50-$100 cheaper when PS4 launches, it will have ironed out all of it’s “new console” flaws, it will have a bigger userbase which will allow for more satisfying online play. The only thing the PS4 will offer over the Wii U at the time of launch will be stronger specs. Nintendo has no reason to worry just yet.
@Anomalous..People seem to forget that the primary reason the Wii U sells are sluggish is due to the lack quality games. Many of the games that were available at launch were available on the other systems. Plus, Wii U didn’t have that killer game. Just imagine if Mario kart was available at launch. Sales would’ve went through the roof. This is the same problem the PS4 and Xbox 1 face. Many of their launch games will be available on their current gen consoles. Games like Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed 4 for instance. Many people (except die hard fans) aren’t going to buy new consoles just so their game can be a little prettier. I think Nintendo will be okay. Plus, I’m pretty sure we’ll have another direct that reveals a surprise or two.

So they should had convinced to them why its worthy to put games like ffxv,kh3 for example to wii u. There should be lots of variety of 1st and 3rd party games available on wii u thats the reason why people consider snes as their best console. Only if you want to play certain games online. Not all MP games require PS+ and nothing else is blocked without it.
PS+ is worth it anyway. Even without the online mp requirement for PS4, I would recommend (and have recommended) it to every gamer with a PlayStation (3, Vita, and soon 4).
The instant game collection does look cool, but I’m having issues with memory space on my PS3 and Vita without a massive library of free digital games, and I doubt plus would help matters.
You can always delete stuffs and redownload. Also you can change the hard drive to the bigger hard drive. Only thing that I hate is the Vita. Vita memory are very limited and costly. I assuming they want more net income for buying their brand memory cards only rather than third party products. (I don’t know what they are thinking.)
Yeah, I talked to some Sony personnel about it too. Hopefully they make the changes because that storage problem is a big negative for the Vita right now. It needs cheaper memory cards, larger memory formats, and possible built in storage options.
I know the PSP had a similar problem near its launch too and Sony eventually let SanDisk create a licensed yet cheaper set of memory cards to work with it. I hope they do the same for the Vita.

So why doesn’t Nintendo prepare a Fantastic Zelda game and a Wii Sports title for every launch so people will get the sustem? We could have used the Gamepad to play table tennis, bowl? play baseball, hockey, volleyball, etc. Nintendo should have stuck to what they know to sell Wii U’s. 💋
