Legendary developer Shigeru Miyamoto met with IGN last year to discuss all things Legend of Zelda. Miyamoto said that the development team were debating between two separate Zelda products – a remake of Majora’s Mask and A Link to the Past sequel. We already know now that they prioritised A Link to the Past style sequel called The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which is due out later this year. Could it be that now work has nearly commenced on The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds that the team will move onto Majora’s Mask? IGN certainly seems to think so.

It was published today by IGN. The actual interview took place a year ago, but IGN seems fairly adamant that we could see Majora’s Mask. I knew if I didn’t post it my inbox would be flooded!

yes, it would be awesome to see it in hd the same as OOT. it would be like playing it like the first time on 64. that feeling doesnt come back to often like it was when you first played OOT. same with MM. xenoblade is probably one that captured that same feeling. that is really hard to capture by the way. the point is it would be awesome for the 64 ones to be on wii u in hd, they should have instead of windwaker since that game doesnt age from its visuals.

Grezzo, the company behind OoT 3D, could remake Majora’s Mask easily. That wouldn’t hinder the development of an all-new Zelda game.
Seeing as how I never really played Majora’s Mask when it was new, I’m all for a remake.
I certainly wouldn’t complain. They could hand it off to Grezzo like they did with OoT 3D if they want to focus on something else. The fact that MM reused a lot of OoT’s assets can only help as well.

How about you give us new games instead, Nintendo? I’m tired of all those remakes and sequels. When was the last time they created a decent new franchise? They’re still milking 20 years old franchises, seriously. I’m a Nintendo fan myself but I can’t be the only one to grow insanely tired of seeing the same franchises or even same GAMES over and over again.
The only games i’m getting tired of is the Mario Bros. it has gotten old really quick. X is a new IP so I can’t complain about that.

But Nintendo has always changed the story, added new characters, new gameplay style, new art style, and new graphics….. Halo on the other hand, is still… “SHOOT IT!! SHOOT IT!! SHOOT IT!!”

I would think since they did a 3DS rebuild, a M Mask 3DS rebuild would be easier than an HD, WiiU remake.

Nintendo upscale Majora’s mask to 1080P, put it on the Wii U and make a sequel to Majora’s mask on the 3DS for next year. With Square-Enix publish a true sequel to Chronotrigger on the Wii U, to be made by Monolith-Mistwalker-EAD-square division and :). Also give retro and platinum games to make STARFOX on the Wii U, with vanquishesque ground mechanics.

Nintendo is deep into the development cycle of the first Zelda for the Wii U. So all above that are saying nintendo should focus on a new Zelda. Hello Aonuma and company are busy working on two new Zeldas. One is the finished sequel on the 3DS, while the other is the Zelda magnanimous on the Wii U, scheduled for a Holiday 2014 release :).

I’m not a big fan of Majora’s Mask. But who knows? Maybe a remake will pull me back into it.
I love the game… its dark and quite interesting involving yourself in the lives of people who have unfinished business during an end of the world scenario. I wish the game had been longer with more stuff like that to do…
