Phil Fish, the outspoken developer behind Fez, has taken to Twitter to show his appreciation to Nintendo for not including microtransactions in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Fish says that the fact that the game doesn’t include microtransactions in this day and age is something special and precious. He also said that it showed amazing restraint from Nintendo.
“That ACNL doesn’t have microtransactions in this day and age is so special and precious! it’s amazing the restraint nintendo is showing.”

Nintendo can be conservative with alot of online services, but that is not always a bad thing. (However, I still want miiverse for 3ds and a community for ACNL)

Words like “special” and “precious” from a guy like Phil Fish are probably sarcasm, but the irony is this statement rings true.
Don’t if he’s saying that seriously, or sarcastically, because Phil Fish is a cunt.
It’s definitely at least partially facetious. He’s implying that Nintendo is quaint, hasn’t kept up with the rest of the industry.

Creates game heavily involving costumes, furniture and other items.
Doesn’t include micro transactions or paid dlc.
They already have DLC, and its free, plus there is exclusive downloadable items from certain stores. There’s also the QR system where you can share any clothing/patterns/etc you’ve created in the game, which people are taking the fuck of the advantage out of them. So I don’t see the point you’re trying to make.
His point is that it’s so easily able to add micro-transactions and make a fuck ton of money in this game but Nintendo didn’t. And we love them for it.

The funny thing is: Sony is praised for not having stuff like drm (although they will have it from some third party games and they will now even have paid online) and Nintendo isnt even mentioned although with them you dont even have to think about something like that…I mean, I didnt even think of microtransactions for acnl. My thoughts exactly. The only reason this game doesn’t have microtransactions is because Nintendo is so behind in everything they do. They just barely started to do online lol. Just give them a few years and they will catch up and start doing it too.
Didn’t the DS have online? And in Japan you could connect you gameboy advance to your cellphone to play Mario kart online as well……
Nintendo was doing online with the n64 disc drive in fact and they were doing something similar with the satelliview (think I spelt that right)

Looks like they will base the whole game on it as it will be a free-to-play game. They might do this for WiiU, they already have a few free-to-play games on the eshop (zen pinball and tank, tank, tank), the console version of the game hasn’t sold well compared to their portable versions (it can probably also recover the money they have put into the game quicker than full price retail game) and not to mention the 3ds game was released not to long ago and they tend to keep it to one game per system, per generation.

The fact that Animal Crossing doesn’t have micro-transactions means that it’s still good. The fact is in modern game design, game elements are either there to be fun or make money. Nintendo doesn’t touch the latter, and that’s where micro-transactions lie.
What the heck does he mean by “Microtransactions”?
Micro-transactions are small purchases that can be made within a game using real life money. Things like “buy this gun for $2.50” or “unlock this character for $5”. They can be found in almost every free smartphone game. Thinking of all the items in Animal Crossing and how people have become hooked to the, Nintendo could have made allot of money from micro-transactions. Props to them for showing restraint and thinking of the fans first.
I’ve lost interest in animal crossing having grown up, but with all the praise I’m hearing for the game coming from adult fans I’m beginning to consider getting back into the series.

Yeah… um… I’d have to agree with what others have already said. This sounds like sarcasm to me. We know how much of a dick Phil Fish is. He makes just one good game and thinks he’s hot shit because of it and now he insults everyone else, thinking they’re inferior to him and his massive ego.
So, really… I detect massive amounts of sarcasm oozing out of his pores. Especially when he uses the term, “precious,” which… when not used to describe a young child, is used as an insult.
