This week’s Media Create software and hardware figures are now in from Japan. The PlayStation Vita has fared better than previous weeks as sales have doubled due to new release, Toukiden. The Nintendo 3DS remains the best-selling format followed by the PlayStation Vita and the PlayStation 3. Wii U sales have risen slightly from last week, but not enough to make a noticeable difference in the scheme of things. Here’s the best-selling software and hardware in Japan.

MH4 and X/Y are coming very close to each other. Gonna be a lot of sales there.
MH4 is only coming out in Japan this year. If it comes to NA which it almost certainly will it wont be like like February next year.

I agree the VITA has a great game selection (particularly when it comes to psone classics) but man its D PAD and face buttuns REALLY suck compared to the 3DS there so stiff and cheap feeling how come no one talks about this its like just because it has two(tiny) analogue sticks people forget about these terribly designed essential controls.
I dont really mind them, as a matter of fact, I find them more comfortable than the PS3 Analog sticks, but its probably because the PS3 ones tend to slip a lot. Comparing them to the 3DS nub is a different story though. The nub is probably the most comfortable thing ive ever used.
Well i cant really comment on thhe dual analogue sticks as i dont have any games that really use em that much but man i hate those face buttuns shoulder buttuns aint too hot either….
yeah, those do suck, i dont complain about them because i have that Grip for it that turns the Shoulder buttons to Triggers, but without the grip, oh jeeze, do they suck. The buttons are a little to close for my taste as well.
try Soul Sacrifice, that uses the Dual sticks for everything and the only Dpad button it uses is the Down button. Great game by the way, and just emotionally dark.
I downloaded the demo haven’t played it much but i do like the weird book-monster-charachter thing.
Great Week for the Vita and it will continue to Grow After the PS4 comes out :D i think it has a future it will never get close to 3DS but its still a Great HandHeld

3DS & 3DS XL should really be counted together, bringing the total sales of the 3DS to approximately 50K, 40% more sales than the Vita. Still, it’s nice to see the Vita is gaining sales. Healthy competition is always a good thing.
It’s above 50 000 3DSs sold about 52 000 approximately. Meaning the 3DS is selling 200 000 consoles a month in the off months of May, June and July WOW! that is $185 ( average for the 3DS in layman’s math ) multiplied by 200 000 = $ 37 000 000 per month in US dollars for japan alone.
Everybody should get a Vita (beautiful graphics) You can probably find one for cheap at the clearance isle at Sears or Walmart. I might get one for Sony all stars royale and pg4. Hopefully it gets good games like 3ds.

Yeah, it isn’t for everyone and has a storage/memory issue that I hope they work out soon, but it does have a bunch of great games on it and the system itself is probably the best handheld I have ever used (hardware wise).
It just needs some bigger recognizable franchises to come to it, better advertising, and better (and cheaper) storage solutions.

The PSP was a great system still is. It was number 2 to the greatest system ever the DS ( original gameboy, Wii, WiiU, gamecube, SNES, NES, virtual boy {lol}) but a great portable non the less. The psp go on the other hand makes the virtual boy look like a Linux souped up machine.

The PSPgo was actually a great idea, it was just executed Horribly, The PSPgo should have been launched when the original PSP came out. The fact that Sony thought people would rebuy the games that they had already bough was STUPID. that and the new Memory storage dumb as well.

I don’t remember what game it was that gave it its first boost in sales but it was probably slightly better than this one…
But ever since its pricecut in Japan, the Vita sales in general have not improved by a significant amount…
Before it they used to sale around 4000-6000 units, today it’s around 8000-10.000 I believe…
The game that gave the Vita a boost is persona online or something like that. Sony needs to drop the Vita price by $120 or $90 dollars. That way nintendo drops the 3DS price by 30 dollars to $170 and it shall fly off the shelf even more. 3DS making enough money to cover itself and the WiiU till July 13 when Pikmin 3 arrives. In fact even till 2015 the 3DS can cover the WiiU in games and money :).

Thanks Simply G, Phantasy star online 2 was the game that sold the Vita and gave it a big two week boost. That and the price drop has put it above the 10000 sold to 15000 vitas sold on average every week :).

It’s not that bad per se but if those numbers are Nintendo, then it’s sort of bad considering they could sellatleast 2-3 times more if they delivered every plan they had since launch…
However once Pikmin 3 comes out, I do believe sales will increase a bit but when Wind Waker and specially SM3DW comes out, that’s when the Wii U will sell faster than the Arctic is melting…

It is a great thing. Especially since the WiiU has not hit the software( games not other resources ) every month stride yet. This is Japan, for it to sell 7 000 a week, 11 000 a week average for six months is a great thing. In Japan handhelds dominate. Reason why the psp is still charting software. So on average 44 000 consoles a month. Nintendo has the pleasure and measure of selling in all markets, which most people overlook. Western, American media does not realize the xbox only dominated the US for three years. Starting this year, it will be a nintendo Sony battle of ruling. Which benefits us the gamers, cause Nintendo makes wonders of games, now Sony is following suit. Sony nintendo rivary is a beautiful thing, alá PSone N64 years.

What is the game that caused this spike in sales for the Vita? My birthday is coming up and I’m considering getting one.
Toukiden. For now it is only out in Japan, but it is being released in Europe and North America later this year. It’s a co-op game that I guess can be described as similar to Monster Hunter.

I think a better comparison would be soul sacrifice. They both can see enemies weaknesses and they’re both fast paced. And the monsters you face are more demonic and more mythological. Compared to monster hunters Dino’s and more realistic monsters.
I would like it if 3DS had apps like my iPhone and iPod. The Wii U needs a price drop and games that are awesome and use the Gamepad. Nintendo needs to buy third party publishers or buy exclusive contracts. Nintendo should either buy Platinum Games or buy more exclusive games contracts from Platinum Games. Nintendo should buy Altus.
Not surprising to see the Wii U and Vita get bumps. Tecmo Koi released a high profile exclusive for Vita (they’ve been big Vita supporters I must say) while eager buyers are buying the Wii U in anticipation of NSLU and Pikmin 3. Once Pikmin 3 hits, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Wii U sales for the week around 80000 or much higher even there. Nintendo has made a ton of commericials, they’re going to release CGI shorts which many people with a 3DS will see, and Pikmin 3 will be on Day 1 discount.
Another thing to consider is that proportion wise, Wii U sales are doing best there. I went off the latest VGChartz numbers. When you take the ratio between the combined purchases of Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 against the Wii U for each major market, the ratios come out to this:
North America: 9 to 1
Europe: 16 to 1
Japan: 2 to 1
Considering how the Wii U is likely pricier than the PS3 over there and has practically NO compelling content and is only recently getting marketed efficiently, it’s doing very well in Japan. The Wii U recovery proportionally speaking will likely be best there.
Go Vita. Vita is kick ass handheld the only thing it needs is more good games. Very brilliant device just like 3ds and Wiiu. Lets stop this stupid console war.
