Frozenbyte‘s Trine 2: Director’s Cut – the Wii U console’s edition of Trine 2 – was released 2012 in the Nintendo eShop as a Wii U launch title. Based on his experience with working on the platform, Frozenbyte’s marketing manager, Julius Fondem, has told Gamers Xtreme that “the Wii U is a truly powerful console.” Fondem went on to say that Nintendo’s latest console is “definitely more powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3,” echoing words uttered last year by 5th Cell’s Jeremiah Slackzka.
Gamers Xtreme: Trine 2: Director’s Cut is by far, one of the best looking games available on the Wii U. I did notice the visuals were crisper than those on the PS3/360. What was it like developing for the Wii U? Is it more powerful than the public seems to believe?
Fondem: We have really enjoyed working with the Wii U hardware. It was rather easy to port our modern proprietary engine to it, and it does pack the punch to bring to life some really awesome visuals. The Wii U is a very modern console with a lot of RAM which helped us out a lot during development. The hardware capabilities have improved quite a lot from the original Wii, and the Wii U is a truly powerful console. The console is definitely more powerful than the rXbox 360 and PS3.

They’re only floundering if you don’t like their first party line-up and their selection of exclusives.

Most of us know that Wii U is more powerful than these old consoles. Not that it matters; very few developers seem to be taking advantage of it (although “X” and Bayonetta 2 seem to be). Even Nintendo aren’t.

Mario Kart 8 is the best example of the Wii U’s graphical capabilities so far.
I played Mario Kart 8. And it blew my mind, I couldn’t believe that I was playing Mario game the books so amazing. Transparency, Balloon effects. Wow.
Who thought it was CGI? I haven’t read that anywhere.
What does Mario Kart 8 going for it? If you really notice you can see how primitive all the environments are. The trees are low polygon. They copy pasted the same tree over and over and over and scaled it a bit here and there. The grass texture is as simple as it can be. Now look at other modern games, notice how detailed trees and the grass is (and the rest of the environment), you can see each individual strand of grass. Every tree is individually made with lots of detail. I guess Nintendo has to do the everything so simple in order to run their game at 60 fps, if they would do all the detail other games have it would drop to 20 lol.
Yeah when you are playing your very detail game (COD DEStiny etc) look for a fucking beach lie down and count the leaves on the trees.

I suppose if you aren’t used to the mind blowing visuals on the PS3/360’s finest looking games, then yes, MK8 would look very good.
Ignoring Knack’s visuals looks bad coming from an 8 core console. Also ignoring that NFS on Wii U looks wayyyy better than 360/PS3’s. And lastly ignoring that PS4’s visuals isn’t blowing out PS3’s visuals. And since according to Frozen byte Wii U is more powerful than PS3, it makes PS4’s look bad since it’s not blowing the weaker Sony console out the water.
After all Phil according to you PS3 has mind blowing visuals. So I guess you are impressed with Knack then. Ignoring Mario Kart 8’s visuals look better.

So far everything the 8 core consoles showed does not blow Wii U out of the water. After All Wonderful 101’s graphics looks better than Knack’s.

I would say it looks more detailed, but I certainly prefer 101’s art style. Really looking forward to that game!
I’m not saying that the graphics of MK8 are as good as the Xbox One and PS4, but they look better than any PS360 graphics I’ve seen for this kind of cartoony art style. What games contain these “mind blowing visuals” you speak of? Yes, maybe games such as Heavy Rain have more realistic visuals, but Mario games aren’t meant to look realistic.
Hey, I’m just saying that MK8’s visuals don’t look to be making the most of the WiiU’s potential is all. It looks better than anything else we’ve seen on the console so far, but it still doesn’t surpass some of more visually impressive games that exist on older platforms.
What I’m trying to say is that even Nintendo clearly aren’t pushing WiiU to the max just yet. Which means that maybe they will in the future, when they have a firmer grasp of how to get the most out of their own technology.

-sigh- i honestly wish this blog site would stop reporting this type of “news”. Yes we all know it’s significantly stronger than the 360 and PS3 while being significantly weakened than the X1 and the PS4.
The million dollar question isn’t is the Wii U more powerful than PS3, 360 but where in its power is it closer to? PS3 or PS4. For some dumb reason techs judge the Wii U’s power by specs, yet lack to confirm the Console’s power by a scale. Let’s say the planet Mars is PS3 and Venus is PS4. The console closest to the SUN means its more powerful. So where would Wii U be located in orbit? After all earth is closer to Venus than Mars.
Right, they always kept clamoring that the U is closer towards the PS3 in terms of power but how much? And what if the system is pushed to its limits then by how much? The ceo over crytek stated that at its weakest the system would be as strong as a ps3 so….
They are just saying Wii U is closer to PS3 by its specs. But it seems no one knows for a fact if Wii U is closer to Mars or Venus. After all an individual Wii u core is more powerful than an individual PS4 core. And most games already out on Wii u took up only 2 cores. So where on the scale can a tech show and measure the Wii U’s visuals to Ps4’s and Ps3’s.
What ails me is that they aren’t talking advantage of the U’s gpu, which taking into account that it’s a gpgpu is supposed to output even better when it’s pushed and so on. So why not take advantage of that and make the system work harder than ever always? There’s only been one situation where a dev stated the reason why they’re game is possibly not gonna make it on the U is because of it’s lack of power compared to the X1 and PS4; yet other devs claimed that it was because they can’t code or the engine doesn’t work for the system.
How much more powerful is a Wii U core over a PS4 core? If anyone can answer that with a link attached, we can then times that by 3 because of thethree cores use that information to measure just how much mmore powerful is the Ps4. After all PS4 is only using 6 cores for gaming. And if 3 cores out performs PS4’s 3 cores, then PS4 is less than half more powerful than Wii U.

I bet the PS4 is about 1 core more powerful when it comes to graphics. Think about it: A Wii u core is more powerful than a PS4 cores.TTherefore 3 Wii u cores out performs 3 Ps4 cores. Ps4 is using 6 of 8 cores for gaming. As a result PS4 is at one or 1 and 1/2 more powerful
I never got Trine 2. I don’t remember exactly why, but I wasn’t a fan of the game. (I played the demo). 💋
