GameStop Sales Down By 10%

GamestopWithTextureAndTag

US video game retailer GameStop has released its financial results for the second quarter of its fiscal year. Sales were down by 10%, but the company said it anticipated this due to a decline of interest in current generation hardware. The results the company posted were no better than it managed in the first quarter. GameStop says that for the three months ended August 3rd the company had sales of $1.38 billion. This is down nearly 11 percent year-over-year. GameStop reported net income of $10.5 million, half the $21 million it managed to earn in the same period last year. However, the company expects sales to be reversed in the current quarter due to Grand Theft Auto V and other big titles coming.

“Through two quarters, the year has played out as expected. During this console transition period, our financial results have been supported by the continued growth of our emerging businesses.”

– GameStop CEO Paul Raines

    1. Agreed…

The prices here in Sweden are just absurd…

325€ for a Wii U Basic and around 380€ for the Deluxe whle the games costs about 65€…

No way in the holy N will I pay so much…

I think the PS3 cost like 675€ when it first launched here…

Gamestop and GAME, how about lowering your prices by atleast 10%?…

      1. That’s why I get all my games from Amazon.uk! 25-35 BPs. Compared to most stores here having you pay 50-60. Even our Wii U eShop sucks. 80 SEK for a SNES game while the UK pays around 50 SEK. You can easily make a bogus account and sign it up with a new e-mail address to access the UK shop though.

    2. Yes, they rip people off. Power to the Profits, that’s GameStop, the same people that open all of your games and still charge you a new price for opened games. YIPPY! They are selling Xenoblade for $90 used, I almost pissed in my panties!

  1. There are probably a number of factors responsible for this. It could be the rise of digital, use of online retailers, lack of original new titles, consumers holding of for the next set of new consoles, increasing cost of living, movement away from traditional gaming, etc, etc. I mean, the list is huge, so how can you pin down a single cause.

  2. I personally took the majority of my business to Best Buy, over the last year they offered at least 20% more on trades and had better incentives. Not only that but they actually put their games on sale, unlike GameStop.

  3. I hate Gamestop. Play N’ Trade was SOOOOOOO much better, because they had retro AND modern games. Why couldn’t Gamestop have been the ones to go out of business instead of Play N’ Trade? I wish Play N’ Trade would come back and be just as popular (if not more) than Gamestop.
