You can try to make an argument about what was “current” gen at the time, but the Game Boy was still “current” in 1993 and beyond too, so should that count? At some point you just need to cut it off at a certain time. The way I interpreted the list, and how I think most people will, is that it goes back 20 years to when a console first premiered. Otherwise you might as well just make it about the best consoles for the entire history of video games, since there will always be overlap with what console is selling at whatever point on the timeline.

Agree with basically all the other placements, but come on, you can’t have a system as unreliable as the 360 was in second place, even if was the most popular in the states. The 360 is a bro gamer console. When you say best console to me, it makes me think about the consoles that I’ll be able to come back to 10 years from now and it’ll still let me experience all my games to their fullest and have games that I just can’t get anywhere else. The 360 just doesn’t have that, especially since it was an online box that’ll be offline in just a few years. Without gold the 360 is junk, and I don’t know anyone who’s gonna shell out $60 a year for a nostalgic system that won’t even have anyone left online to play with. Sure the other systems won’t have online, but they all had the single player and local multiplayer that really made them shine. Not to mention, most 360s will be unplayable in 10 years time

So did the Xbox. Oddworld Munche’s Odyssey, Halo Combat Evolved, Project Gotham Racing, and Phantom Dust were awesome games. GameCube did have better exclusives though.
I’m surprised the 3DS isn’t somewhere in this. Yeah, it’s only been out for more than two years, but it already has an outstanding library. It’s not top 3, though.

Microsoft is everything wrong with gaming. The PS2 controllers were definitely built better than the N64 controllers which had a wider set of issues to go with it – though nothing beats the Gamecube controllers when it comes to comfort.
