Check Out This Wii U GamePad-Like Controller For Other Consoles

cross_plane

Advanced Gaming Innovations is working on a new gaming controller that looks similar to the Wii U GamePad. The “Cross Plane” will also have some of the same functions as Nintendo’s touch-screen controller, and is designed to support PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Ouya. It will allow users to play an entire game strictly on its screen, akin to the Wii U GamePad’s Off-TV Play feature. The Cross Plane is currently seeking funds on Kickstarter. Read some of the project’s description below:

“The Cross Plane” is the worlds first multi-platform WVI (Wireless Video Interface) gaming controller that brings a new angle into the way we play modern video games. Designed to support gaming platforms like XBox 360, PlayStation 3, OUYA and PC, “The Cross Plane” puts your favorite games from your favorite platforms right to the palm of your hand, all in beautiful Hi-Def quality!

For the first time, PC users will have to opportunity to “Cut the cord” and take the full power of their machine anywhere in house. That means “Steam” can go with you to the couch or Crysis 3 can actually be played on a handheld.

The button layouts were carefully considered and based around what most console gamers would be used to. This layout went through many changes via 3D Printed case tests to make sure it felt comfortable and natural in your hands given the body style is flat out different from any controller (except the Wii U) on the market.

  1. I really hope this doesn’t get funded. I do refuse support these companies who can’t come up with their own ideas.

        1. Sure and the VW Iroc concept front didn’t copy the Mitsubishi Lancer and2010 Tundra’s face. Yet when the Pro controller was unveiled it was a copy.

            1. More money!!! Deal with it! Sony did by selling 2 headquarters and posting that has profit… truly pathetic also you may find many ex Sony workers in the unemployment offices.

              1. ooh yeeeaa dont worry tho 1 of those ex sony employee, seijiro tomita, made his cash by suing nintendo for copyright infringment on glasses free 3d tech & won.

        1. Actually Nintendo still has its exclusives. And that 3rd party gamepad will likely never come to any real fruition.
Even if it gets its initial funding, the outright cost to buy it would be too high for most, considering they’ve already bought other controllers. The gamepad is WiiUs primary controller by default. Also if every consumer doesn’t have it for other platforms, devs can’t programme for it.
Even the Vita for PS4 likely won’t rival gamepads features

      1. i know! thats what i always tell these filthy pig coppers im like “hey! its my drug muney stay outta mah business i sweat for the money i earn too!!”

          1. I don’t know you are a troll bait but I going comment anyway!

I am pretty sure they do hold the patent as well. I don’t want to look for it again. It have to be quite similar.

  2. It still won’t be anything like the WiiU experience because the console was built around the GamePad- this is backwards already. Not to mention, it will come with tons of problems because it isn’t dedicated to one console/interface.

  3. Let me get this right: Nintendo should go software only because the GamePad wasnt a good idea and yet Nintendo still has the most copied hardware!!!

  4. I didn’t hear anything about the screen being touchscreen… it’s just a giant remote with a screen attached to it.

    1. Thats because Xbox and PS3 games aren’t made for touchscreen like games for the Wii U are. You can’t just make a controller and expect the game to change with it. 💋

      1. Yeah that’s true, but if you read the description in Kickstarter, they said it was usefull to sream PC, NETFLIX, and other stuff, that’s not consoles, I think touch fot this device would be great in PC. But anyway this is going to fail epicly hahahaha

  5. How much you wanna bet if this comes out that every gamer from MS,,SONY and the PC will talk about how awesome it is and that they want one

  6. Lawsuits… Oh so many lawsuits. If there’s anything nobody has learned, it’s that Nintendo hates having copyright issues. They walk into court so much.

  7. Now I see why Wii U heavy hitters ain’t arrived at launch, it would gives others plenty of time to copy. I also see why Nintendo pushed the big update back. I also see why Nintendo has not told us more about unknown games at Directs. And lastly, I see why Nintendo is holding on to games that operate two gamepads. Don’t get me wrong Reggie is still a dumb ass but I get why Nintendo is quiet a lot.

    1. OoOh i thought it was a marketing and psychological scheme to pruduce suspense and desperation so people wud wana buy their crap off the shelves the moment it finally releases, which is why news is given in small dosages…

  8. I don’t mind them borrowing ideas from the Wii U but they made the controller so similar to the Wii U Gamepad so I can see Nintendo shutting this project down big time. They could of pull it off if they didn’t copy the whole thing!

I admit it is cool idea and think of this way, you can use the Nintendo Wii U Gamepad with this Cross Panel for two players without the TV! XD I found it pretty shady that they are including the “controller pak” for their device. Only thing I can think of it to setup the controller for specific console but I don’t think the device need separate controller paks.

I am not supporting this project because I don’t trust those “controller pak” ideas and also I think they going get shutdown anyway.

  9. “The Cross Plane” is the worlds first multi-platform WVI (Wireless Video Interface) gaming controller”

    Uh…WiiU Pad?

  10. BUY A FUCKING Wii U IF YOU WANT THIS TYPE OF PLAY!!! DONT FUCKING STEAL NINTENDO’S IDEAS AND PUT IT ON OTHER SYSTEMS. Why the fuck cant humans think of ORIGINAL ideas anymore? Lazy mother fuckers.

  11. Are you kidding me!? These are the times when having a Patent is very good!! I hope Nintendo has one for the Wii U tablet controller!!! 😨 💋

    1. I certainly hope so!! This could officially put the Wii U in it’s grave! The really big draw to having a Wii U tablet is “off T.V play” and if you can do that on other consoles than people won’t care for the Wii U.

Sure the Wii U tablet is used more effectively than this rip off ever could be, but people will ignore that fact and bash the Wii U to no end. 😖💋

        1. Oops I meant this link. (The last one is the Wii.)

          http://appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220120108340%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20120108340&RS=DN/20120108340

Scroll down to the bottom and you will find Image link if you want to look at the pictures.

They have a lot of patents but you need to check them. Some of them is for software part, OS, or the hardware for the same device.

          1. Thank GOD! I was watching the kickstarter video and it was like nails on a chalkboard for me… They didn’t even MENTION the Wii U. Yet tey mentioned Xbox One and PS4… freaking scumbags! They know it’s a rip-off but they are just ignoring the fact. 💋

            1. so many things othrs did before nintendo that they try to take claim as their own idea like ar,gamepad, analog stick, wii wheel,ar& more& they dont give any credit for using 3d tech, hd, touch detection, etc. u, them, & idiots like u are the real scumbag

              1. ya its such bs that tomita sued them for 3d tech n won. its such bs that sony released wireless wheel 1st for a home console. its such bs that dual analog wasnt a nintendo 1st thing either or that cosmic hunter & others had a d pad before them. history=bs

            2. Wii U has touchscreen. the Price for a 7 inch 720p touchscreen would be soooo much. 7 inch tablets are $600+ and they cant do nearly anything this game.

          2. The Patent data describing what their “Gamepad” Does is to far away from what the Cross plane does. They will probably ignore it until it gets funded. Which it will. When it does they may make a fuss but it wont go anywhere.

            1. Sony is allowed to use Vita as a second screen even though the idea is quite similar but the technology behind it are different. In other word, Sony may or may not copy Nintendo idea but they didn’t copy Nintendo technology for using Vita as a second screen device.

  12. Its a good idea and everyone copies everyone these days but the wii U gamepad does other features to and this just shows what a TV / computer screen would show.

    1. Mine can’t even reach to the bathroom. :(

Probably because there is a lot of inferences with the wireless in my house. Let pretend it is a brand new device that is not a totally rip-off and we could get this device as a second controller for the Wii U. :P

  13. well, if others also have to make games for this particular controller for the xbox 360, PS3 and the PC, then maybe we will see more games from third party developers for the Wii U. I think it could turn out good.

  14. “The button layouts were carefully considered and based around what most console gamers would be used to.”

I call Bullshit on that for two reasons.

1.- most console gamers are used to button on top of the right joystick.

2.- That layout is the same as the beta version of the gamepad and it have the same flaw that every gamer notice so hard that Nintendo have to change it, right buttons aligned with the joystick

    1. for your number one point. thats only on the xbox. and after the Xbox one Crap announcement I am pretty sure more people use a ps3 by now.

      1. No, in the PS3, PS2, Wii Clasic Controler,GameCube, N64 and Ouya, have the buttons above and slightly to the right of the right joystick.

  15. ‘….is flat out different from any controller (except the Wii U) on the market.’

Riiiight. This made no sense, since it IS so similar to a controller on the market. There can’t be exceptions. *rolls eyes*

    1. I think the zapper patent was shown on here already or something like that actually, and it was shown at the reveal. I bet we will probably see one within a few years.

  16. I honestly would not mind this idea, but of course, Nintendo’s likely to sue them for this and get the whole idea shutdown, especially since, if memory serves, Nintendo was the first to go with this whole “using a gamepad to play games and play games on it” kind of gimmick.

    1. This just goes to show you that nintendo is pummeling them so hard that they had to try and copy the design reguardless who made the idea after nintendo…I see this shut down soon. I’ll…give it about…4 weeks to a month before they take notice.

  17. I wouldn’t mind a gamepad for other systems like PC seeing as how amazing it is for Wii U. But this looks like a steaming pile of shit.

      1. Don’t apologize. This is a time where people should be angry. This idea is frankly terrible, and where they said they source there parts from is just loltastic.

              1. He’s right you know. You should be very jealous that they are going to get sued and you won’t be sued

                /sarcasm

            1. “At least they did something with their time unlike you”

They sure did! Snowman must be so jealous that he isn’t going to get sued :(

        1. I don’t think this is a bad idea at all, just like retron, which many Nintendo fans I know of buy, too, including some hypocrites on here. There’s no doubt it might have some drawbacks, but still! They shouldn’t have made it look THAT similar, though. -.-

        1. yeah because i took a shit on it but when i jiggled the left analog stick down nothing happened……. now i just have a worthless gimmick with my shit on it, it smells soooo fucking bad now. im suing nintendo for fake advertising!! my wii u collects dust as advertised so why doesnt th toilet pad flush!!!!

  18. “A project like this is all about communication and keeping our backers updated on a day to day basis is what will keep any unforeseen set-backs at a level of awareness to them. ”

    “unforeseen set-backs”

It’s not hard to for see what is coming buddy.

      1. sorry crybaby, opinions dont trump factual happenings, except if u had a time machine..

wait a minute..u do have one dont u? well i just happen to have one too we’ll just see who can travel back before who!

          1. u hav yet too explain why thiss bullshit 2nd. it doesnt matter wat year it hapned it still hapnd 3rd. its not the first time nintendo gets sued and nintendo lose

            1. 1. I don’t need too…you plainly see it.

              2. I see a lawsuit coming.

              3. You don’t know for sure. Yeah, nintendo gone through alot of lawsuits and lost a few and won a few. But this…yeah, lawsuit big time…only time will tell. so your arguement is invalid to me.

              1. Oopz did i say theyr prob not getng sued? no. if playstation move didnt get sued though im dont think theyr get sued eithr? only time tell. but nintendo also steal thats the irony

                  1. nintendo didnt do motion sensing gameplay 1st thats why they culdnt sue sony the most sony did wus prob copy the design but they culdnt sue for that either cus at least it looked diff. also sony and even sega did dual analgue 1st so who started wat?

                1. Umm… All three companies got sue by this guy. First he hit Microsoft and Microsoft surrender (they didn’t fight back). Then he hit Nintendo. Nintendo fight back twice. They still lost both. That is why you see Classic Controller Pro selling in store when Classic Controller is not selling. They change the design because they lost the lawsuit and this mean no more Gamecube controller as well. I have no idea what he won or not when he sue Sony.

  19. good HDMI transmitters are very expensive.. and also transmitting an uncompressed high bandwidth feed is prone to disruption by other signals…
somehow i don’t think this is going to work all too well

  20. keep that shitty gamepad……. OFF OTHER CONSOLES!!!!!!

the wastepad is a stupid gimmick. stop spreading the gimmicks nintendo!!!!! the whole market is going to be a gimmick…… because of nintendo.

    1. isnt hd, glasses free 3d, iphone vita stationary game pad, ar, and two analog a few xampls of also gimmicks nintendo stole then market copy cuz evry1 copy nintendo?

        1. theyve always had gimmicks n64 had 64 stamped on it to sell more &the stupd european ad welcome to the future & looka dem now!Ljn made a buncha add on gimmicks for nes.virtual boy=gimick 3d=gimmik cdi=gimick flip phone copy gbaSP=gimmick small disk=gimick

    1. then pls xplain how my wiiu becomes a dust suctioner when i switch it on & how it integrates with my shark vaccum just fine

  21. Casual gamers aka ms and sony fans always call things more advanced than dualshock a gimmick

Bash x gamers lol downs gamers wheelchair gamers

    Part brain removed gamers

    Not next gen gamers

Snd thinking a 3rd party pad with a zcreen can just as if by magic act like gamepad with zero lag free intergration and software writen for it

    Is down right DUMB

  22. let’s face it. it was only a matter of time. we all know how this works. nintendo comes up with something and everybody else plays follow the leader.

  23. NES D-Pad, DualShock Analog Sticks, and what the hell kind of buttons are they? They look like Altoids.

This’ll be shut down pretty swiftly.

  24. This project started loong before the WiiU was ever announced.
And you guys sit here dogging it instead of doing something with your life.
They have worked and now have something to show and have made over $3.5k on kickstarter.

  25. It’s a copy of the Gamepad that’s for sure. But being able to have the convenience that the Wii U offers on all of my consoles would be great. Now, here’s the problem with this thing…
    1) How bad would the latency be between the device and your console? Probably bad, since this thing would most likely run of stream via Wi-Fi that’s not optimized for this device or via RF. Bluetooth may make it faster, but would also make it more expensive.
    2) If this device comes to fruition what would the cost for something like this be? Probably more than $100US, which makes it irrelevant to most gamers that don’t understand the benefits of off-tv play.

That’s just the first 2 things that we should be asking about, there are many more that would pertain to this device ever being a relevant piece of equipment.

  26. I must be the only one who doesn’t think it’s anything like the Wii U gamepad.

The buttons are directly under the sticks and not indented as per the Wii U gamepad
There is no front camera or touchscreen
The shape is different at the top edges and the button layout is different
It serves a completely different function to the Wii U Gamepad.

And the grand finally, the design of a tablet with gaming controls on the sides came out well before the Wii U. There were and still is Android tablets with that same design, perhaps the chinese companies should sue Nintendo.

If that wasn’t enough for you all, the concept of a WVI controller to control a PS3 in this general shape was put together a long time ago. Check out the inspiration of the Cross Plane here in these videos below, yep that’s right , they go back 4 and 5 years – well before the Wii U .
