Mario Kart 8 Confirmed As Playable At This Year’s Eurogamer Expo

Nintendo UK has announced on Twitter that Mario Kart 8 will be one of the playable titles at this year’s Eurogamer Expo, also posting the above promotional picture for the game. Taking place in London from September 26th to September 29th, the Expo is one of Europe’s biggest games shows where companies demonstrate their latest material. The Eurogamer Expo will also feature tournaments and a large number of indie games.

Mario Kart 8 boasts new anti-gravity kart racing that allows players to race on walls and upside down, a feature that is supported by the Wii U’s HD graphics and processing power, since courses must be displayed quickly from several different camera angles. The game has been confirmed for an April 2014 release. Other Wii U titles on display at the Eurogamer Expo will be Bayonetta 2 and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

      Yeah, super fun…there is allot more freedom where you can drive. Still play like Mario Kart. One thing that impressed me is how good it looks, it looks like you are playing CG sequences at times.

      I played it a few times.

      I wonder if it will be a new build.

        Also, I doubt they’ll start with a new build, but it will probably be a lot more updated.

            No problem, hopefully they have more than the 4 (man my memory is bad) all of which were new. It looks better in person.

            I played it at Nintendo World Store during E3, they had the shortest lines.

            This I heard about the game when I played it, (allot of which wasn’t necessarily available in the e3 build)
            -Its going customizable karts like Mario Kart 7 but more stuff.
            -Online Multiplayer up to 12 people (they were only letting us play one on one a cup race).
            -You can use wiimote like Wii version, or use the pro controller, or wii controller pad).
            -They balanced Karts and bikes better which I couldn’t tell in a short time playing it.
            -Its going to have a Video highlights feature to post on MarioKart TV (or something like that, which sounds like the PS4 stream and capture).
            -They had something like 8 (or 10) characters to choose from, but that was for at the moment. Expect more characters to choose from, but this was super expected.
            – They expect to use the Wiipad thing for more than menus and maps and were still experimenting with possibilities until then they didn’t want to say or show.

            Ok hope that was coherent, cause I am barely awake today.

              But the video highlights thing sounds really cool. Also, meh, customizable karts. I mean, it was cool and fun and all, but I kinda preferred just plain karts n’ bikes.

              I’d like to see a gamemode where it’s 4 vs 1, the 1 being on the gamepad. I don’t really know what they’d do, but I think it’d be fun :P

              Sorry for double post but I want to know how the wall and ceiling work in generally. I noticed you put more “freedom” and I wonder the “freedom” might limit the use of weapons or getting hits?

                I was using it on one stage to avoid a mass group of cars or cut a corner. It seemed like there was more routes I could take, up walls, between trolly cars. I don’t think they had blue shells when I played, but that doesn’t mean they are going to take them out. I couldn’t find out one way or the other, hope they are gone.

                On the ghost house board, I almost lost which way I was going at one point but the track seemed to hone itself back in.

                  Oh also there are indicators where parts of the track are most of the time, they didn’t let you just randomly drive up buildings.

              The Metroid fanbase is small, even when it was only ‘core’ fans. Most Metroid games sells less than 2mil. If people consider Pikmin a niche franchise, then Metroid isn’t far off.

              Gamecube is probably the best example of a “True Nintendo fan console.” Only two games sold more than 2mil, Metroid Prime (GC) and Metroid(NES). MP was close 3mil, but I think that was only because of Metroid’s long absence and was the 1st 3D adaptation. MP2 sold +1mil Less.

              People complained Retro did a DK game instead of a Metroid, but to me, DK was a wiser choice.

      It’s a big deal as it wasn’t announced during Nintendo’s initial line up for Eurogamer a week or so ago and a lot of people were a bit perplexed by it not being there. Moreso as Bayonetta 2 was announced as being playable too.
      It also marks the first time it’s being shown off in the UK, and Mario Kart is a huge franchise over here!
      Nintendo usually go all out at Eurogamer so it’s likely this year will be no different!

    Played it at E3. I loved it. Of course, I totally love the Mario Kart franchise anyway but this one appears to be hitting all the high notes and looks to be the best version yet (I say Double Dash is the best right now).

    Plus the game is quite pretty. Given the art style of the game, it is hard to imagine it looking any better regardless of system horsepower.

      I don’t have a problem buying MKart everytime new hardware comes out. This looks good, and I’m into the Back to the Future, Wheels rotate and hover thing. :D

      Since it’s Friday, I’ll say something positive.
      Compared to Wii graphics, the WiiU truly is a breath of fresh air. Everything just looks so much better.
      I don’t think Nintendo has a full grip on HD programming yet, so I think we are just beginning to see what it can do.
      Pikmin had a Gorgeous overtone, but there was still a lack of detail in the characters. That’s OK, so long as every game continues to get better.
      looking at MK8, it appears Nintendo is making progress.

      This is going to sound weird, but I think sales may increase after the other systems are released. I could be wrong, but I think some people are waiting for all the playing pieces to be on the game board before jumping into a new system.

        Mario Kart 8 looks a lot like a CGI move in some cases its that good and its being played on weaker hardware than the PS4 and Xbox One which is really impressive.

        Only problem is that Mario Kart only comes out once every console generation while Call of Duty comes out ever Year, big difference. Also, note how Mario Kart actually sells more copies that Forza and GT, yeah you are a butthurt Mac Gamer who is basically attacking other consoles because he hardly has any games on his system.

                          Well I think the problem is that Iwata knew there is a market for casual at the time. He knew that it will be a trend. But by the time Wii U come out and the trend ended. No more casual market for them. They trying hard to get the casual market back but I think it is part of the trend. I think CoD is part of the trend as well. Once the trend ended and we probably never see CoD until a couple years later.

                    Ever since Iwata has become president all Nintendo’s system selling point has been a gimmick. The DS with the touch screen (although the touch screen was actually put to good use), The Wii with motion control, the 3DS with 3d, and now the Wii U with the tablet controller.

                    Iwata refuses to introduce any bold new IPs or reboot classic Nintendo franchises. He’s rather just milk Mario, Pokémon, and Zelda.

                    Also, Iwata is constantly apologizing and saying how sorry he is, yet he never makes any changes or learns from his mistakes.

                      Iwata doesn’t allow new IPs? The Wii series, with two additions to it this year, is a new and young IP. Pikmin is the same. All successful(except Wii Music). Hell, Miyamoto is working on one as we speak.

                  ill admit im a big nintendo fanboy, but im seriously getting sick of the whole, wii was for casuals, their gone now. the wii came out 6 years ago, alot of those 10 to 12 years olds are now 16 to 18, meaning alot of them got jobs. like all pervious fans of the ps1 xbox, and nintendo consoles, alot of them became fans of nintendo games. yes the consoles selling badly… really never heard any console in HD thats sold alot in the beginning. its selling badly because humans like the same thing again and again,very similar to movies and music. once zelda, mario, and anything else that was on the wii comes out, its all uphill for those gamers. sure alot of old fans hate “new” nintendo, but alot of new fans are just waiting for the old stuff, liike xbone fans are waiting for nfl and ps fans are waiting for GOW. and there really are more ppl then this site, so while it may notbe a system seller, its a mario kart game. and it will not sell poorly. yes im a fanboy, wont lie, but the casual argument is getting real old.

                    You should know that there is a lot of predictability in gaming. That may never change. However, If you understand that the developers make the games that the people buy. For example. Lets say a game titled Qwe sold 33M copies. Do you think they would make Qwe 2? I’ll give you a hint. Y_S. Still not sure? The answer is yes, they certainly would.

                    Now lets take a look at your example, Mario Kart…

                    (The last home console version sold 33M+)

                    We notice that it is a Kart battle/racing game If you knew only that, I bet you could almost predict what the game-play is going to include.Take a moment and think about it…

                    Now. if you thought about it, you may have come to this conclusion.
                    ~The racing genre can be quite predictable to begin with.

                    Let’s make some predictions(probably closer to expectations) based on what we know about Mario Kart.

                    -Nintendo characters
                    -Karts
                    -Circuits/Cups
                    -NewTracks
                    -Various weapons and equipment
                    -Some minor gameplay changes
                    -Fun, Edge of your seat, intensive mp game-play

                    Read that last entry again…

                    Nothing else matters.

                  The Wii U needs to fail so Nintendo can learn to not shit on there fan base. They force a cheap low battery life gamepad on us. They give us shitty 32gb and justify it by saying “buy an external hard drive if you want more space” when if a 500gb can go for $50 it would take them fucking cents to give us at least 100-200gb. Then they don’t give online play for alot of games that would benefit from it like Nintendo land SM3DW Sonic lost world etc and justify it with a HORRIBLE EXCUSE like “oh we want the experience at home” FOH!!! Then they give us a weak ass system with a lazy copy and paste UI of the 3ds. THEN they give us ass rehases of Wii and 3ds games (NSMB, DCKR) then they had the nerv to charge there weak system for $350 with a game that cost CENTS to add and isn’t worth that extra $50 In other words YOUR loosing out. Do you guys see the pattern here ????? They are SHITTING on all there fans and giving us shit WAKE UP!!!! You dumb fanboys and nintensheep need to realize what Nintendo is doing and speak up about it. Look at XBONE the Xbox fans spoke up and Microsoft changed there whole policy with the XBONE to make it worth the purchase. Nintendo can do the same if you DUMB ASSES speak up but if you sit here and except this shit there giving they will continue to give you this SHIT.                     – Online games are scarce and will be Nintendo’s focus in 2014
                    – The WiiU is not weak, you have chosen your facts from the dribble you read on blogs.
                    – Those games are sequels, most sequels can be considered rehashes.
                    -They are not shitting on their fans.
                    -Wii U will sell very well this generation.
                    -X1 and PS4, have nothing to do with WiiU sales.

                    Nintendo may have pissed off some of the early adopters, they had to, they will make it up to us.

                    This holiday and going into 2014, Nintendo will be marketing the hell out of WiiU and it’s games creating an explosion of sales for the Wii U. Starting with the update in October, Nintendo will be your best buddy again, don;t worry.

                    Hard disk drives don’t cost cents, if they added one expect +$50-80 depending on the size. I’m not talking retail price, I mean manufacturing price (I think around $40).
                    HDD don’t drop in cost like other electronics because it is mostly mechanical and usually get a bitter bang for buck with a higher GB capacity. There is a reason why Sony recently released a cheaper flash based PS3 storage instead of a low GB HDD.
