This week’s Japanese sales charts are now in courtesy of Media Create. The Nintendo 3DS has once again has another good week as the portable device sold 122,987 units. Monster Hunter 4 remained the best-selling game in Japan, fending off all competition. However, the Wii U fared even worse this week as the console only shifted 4.001 units. The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker HD doesn’t appear to have affected sales at all with the game dropping to tenth place in the charts. Here’s the Japanese software and hardware chart.

The XL doesn’t increase resolution, so games are not as sharp as they are on the regular screen… So it’s kinda an upgrade, but it’s a downgrade to how the games look. :\ I do like the larger screen though. :)

Yeah, Japan is waiting on the new Vitas that will be dropping tomorrow. It will give it a slight boost, but considering that Pokemon X, Y and the 2DS are coming too, I expect more of the Japanese market to be focused on Nintendo’s releases.
Sony fans there will still support the new Vitas though.

Home consoles are on the decline over there, look at how massively popular mobile gaming is, the 3DS is destroying everything, even the vita and PSP have sold units.
The PS3 sold 70M worldwide, sold 9M in Japan, The Wii sold 100M worldwide, sold 9M in Japan. Compare that to the PS2 that sold 20M in Japan, you don’t have to be a genius to see what’s happening here..

There’s no doubt PS4 will have a great launch, but don’t get too caught up in the hype.
Sony said they plan to sell about 5 mil by march. Even if PS4 sells like hot cakes, it would likely be supply constrained.
If you meant launch window, then it’s possible, but that assumes the hodidays+games have little-no effect on WiiU’s sales.

3DS was in a drought and was laughed at, look at the Machine now. Nintendo delayed DK to next year to Compete against the PS4’s release in Japan. Like how we humbled Aelous with the 3DS destroying the Vita, and the Unreal Engine 4 being on the WiiU ( CryEngine 4 ) is better any day by the way; you too shall eat crow and humble pie. Pride cometh before a fall, as Neutron and Bill when the said persona golden will push the Vita above 3DS earlier this year. The 3DS sold 80 000 that week with no real releases, and the Vita sold 60 000 with a major title lol.

Never Doubt the Selling power of an official Mario Game. Many have made that mistake and lived to eat crow. Super Mario bros games have legs. Worry for the no first party having console Xboxdone. PS4 being ahead of microsoft works in Nintendo’s favor. Sony is forced to make great games that way, While Nintendo invented making great games.

I think the Mario games that will help push the Wii U are still in the future: Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. Everyone loves Mario Kart, so hopefully that will really push the Wii U and Smash has always been a hit.
We have to wait until 2014 for the Wii U to really pick up steam. If it doesn’t during 2014…. then Nintendo really has to reevaluate things, because that’s a problem (considering the 2014 lineup).
I will check out sonic. It’s been FOREVER since I bought a sonic game. It looks like they went to a lot of work to innovate the game play, so yeah, I guess I will be picking that up. ;)

Monster Hunter is Capcom, so you can only really count the 3DS’ for Nintendo. However, when you look at the stream of time – the 3DS is actually doing worse than the DS did during this period of its life-cycle. Still, yeah, the 3DS is doing the best right now. Kudos to Nintendo for that, it’s a great handheld with awesome games.

My fear is that they will delay new hardware like they did the Wii, waiting until it is completely irrelevant before releasing a replacement.
As we’ve seen, DS consoles seem to co-exist, so Nintendo wouldn’t have to quit supporting the 3DS when they release the 3DS HD. *wink, wink*
They also need to keep their handheld hardware strong as they appear to be the only ones strong enough to hold their own against the tablet market.
