Aonuma Says We Will Get Zelda Wii U Information At E3 2014

Legendary Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has stated that Zelda fans will have to wait until next year’s E3 event in Los Angeles for news regarding the next instalment of the Zelda franchise on Wii U. During the same interview Aonuma explained that Nintendo have heard the complaints about the lack of openness in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for Wii and are possibly looking to incorporate an open-world in the next Zelda game.

Can you tell us anything about the Wii U Zelda game?

“I’ll say more at E3 2014.”

Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker were very open worlds, while Skyward Sword was very closed. Is there a chance we’ll see that openness again?

“I think the most open-world Zelda we’ve had so far has been Wind Waker, just because you were able to sail the ocean and go all over the islands. When creating a game, we look at what is the core, kernel gameplay. You try to construct the game around that, and making that core mechanic the easiest to access.”

“For Skyward Sword, that kind of narrowed, focused world helped us with that, but at the same time it meant you didn’t have that wide-open world to explore. We’ve heard the complaint about lack of openness from a lot of fans. As we’re deciding what the core gameplay mechanic was, we have that open-world desire at the forefront of our minds, and we’re trying to figure out how to incorporate that as well.”

  1. wait…. is nintendo actually going to have a e3 press conference next year then?? are they actually going to have stuff to show us this time and not baby out.

    1. They didn’t baby out, I think they were just trying to promote their show Nintendo Direct. I mean, it was basically the same as an E3 presentation just nicely edited, no mistakes, and not 3 hours long. (*cough* Microsoft’s *cough*)

      1. I think they did a E3 Direct because of the conference they had in 2012. It’s was REALLY not good. No, they didn’t embarrass themselves. Iwata didn’t want mess up again, like they did in 2008. So, the Direct is pretty a great idea. In 2014, they will probably have a conference.

        1. Yeah? That’s true. I don’t really care either way, haha. As long as I get the sweet news on a nice stream! :D Though, if I actually went to E3 it would be cool to be able to attend the presentation…

        1. Yup! With games like a new HD ZELDA a new MARIO KART a VERY hyped up new SMASH BROS. and many more games (unannounced)!! ….. wow this does surly sound like a horrible console!………. : / ………………… -_-”

  2. fuck yeah. wiiu’s zelda needs to be done right otherwise the series will plummet. also I hope one to one motion control is an option. I enjoyed the hell out of that shit in skyward sword.

    1. I want it, too! But I worry, if it’s just an option, that the combat won’t be as complex as in Skyward Sword–and I want it to be more complex…. There’s so much potential there–can the Game Pad top it?

      1. “Complex”

It was piss easy though… Granted not as easy as say, Wind Waker, but still, get Hylian Shield > kick everything’s ass because invincible

      2. I hate to admit it, but the gamepad worked well with wind waker so they could improve upon that with zelda wiiu. it would be cool if they released two different versions of the game. one complete motion controls and one gamepad controls. or a combo of the two.

    1. But Microsoft has the show the next gen Halo at 30 fps and 720p first. Lol. Zelda U and X…..E3 14 will be remembered.

  3. In other words: “Zelda fans, you all need to wait until 2015 for the new installment.”

Oh, well… But as long as they deliver an outstanding game, I can deal with it. On top of that, hope the wait is not as in vain as the wait for SS.

That’s the news I didn’t want to hear. That means no news until next summer and we won’t be getting the game until 2015. SIgh.

Good point. I just hope ALBW lives up to the standards. I don’t feel any hype for it. It feels like a filler to me, just like Wind Waker HD. :/

  5. Oh great, another pathetic and unmanly game for Nintendo nerd to jizz over. Nintendo need to top being o retarded and make ome fucking manly game already.

  6. Awesome! I said they would do this on a Miiverse comment. Easy guess though, Anouma said they nearly showed it at e3 2013.

            1. I confess I would like to have a new Star Fox title as well, although Metroid and F-Zero are good franchises.

The sad is that we know that Nintendo EAD won’t be working on them in parallel. :(

  8. Twilight princess was a pretty huge map too. so hopefully in Incorporated hyrule field, the great sea, and the twilight princess hyrule field.

  9. 2015 then. I mean it makes sense. Aonuma gave us The Wind Waker HD to tide us over until the release. It wouldn’t make sense if that “long wait” ended a year later.

Hopefully this means there will be a press conference next year. Nintendo can say what they say, but let’s be honest, they didn’t have a conference this year because they didn’t have that much to show. But ZELDA, now that is something to show! Plus a Star Fox game ready to release next year would be nice… ;)

    1. Yes it is. 1 day is too much. I am in dire need of the new Zelda Wii U. I feel like I am going through withdrawal symptoms and Wind Waker HD is an electronic cigarette.

  10. The new zelda game for 3ds will be open too won’t it? I’m expecting the wait will be worth it. Just like for Donkey Kong. Hugs!

  11. So why is stupid Nintendo holdong back info about Zelda U? You do know Nintendo was stupid buildig the Wii U barely more powerful than current gen. That was stupid.

      1. YES YES HE IS!!! this is the same retard who say nintendo is stupid and easy games and he like gta in one article. then in another topic he say he like nintendo and call them stupid.

ill tell you what he is

        a fake hater troll!

        exposed!

    1. It’s strong enough to run games in 1080p(upscaled) and 60fps. I have yet to see a ps4 and/or xbone game to do better than that.

Also, revealing info about Zelda U now would take the attention away from WWHD and ALBW.

  12. Am I the only person who genuinely love Skyward Sword? The only thing wrong with Skyward Sword is how long it took them to make and it came out too late in the Wii life cycle, it should have come out in the 3rd year of the Wii’s life cycle on the market.

  13. My brother got a Mii Street Pass last night with Eiji Aonuma. An official Mii from Nintendo. HOW? It’s no fair! Only thing I can think of is maybe he received it when he was using his 3DS in the Home Depot parking lot.

  14. The sweet spot would be a big open world begging to be explored while still containing those Skyward Sword areas that keep expanding as the game progresses. All areas of the basic map would be accessible, but what can be done there is affected by where in the story the player is.
