Pokemon X & Y Sell More Than 4 Million Units Worldwide In First Two Days

On Saturday, Oct. 12, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y for Nintendo 3DS became the first set of games in franchise history to launch simultaneously worldwide. Nintendo reported today that the games combined to sell more than 4 million units across Japan, Europe and The Americas on Saturday, Oct. 12, and Sunday, Oct. 13.

“The early response to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y not only reaffirms the ongoing passion of Pokémon fans, but also indicates that an entirely new generation of gamers is eager to experience the franchise for itself.”

– Nintendo President Satoru Iwata.

Since this was the first global launch in franchise history, there isn’t an exact historical precedent for comparison. However, when combining and comparing regional data for previous launches, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y would be the fastest-selling Nintendo 3DS games of all time and are tracking ahead of the last Pokémon RPG titles, Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2, by more than 70 percent.

With more than 245 million games sold worldwide, the Pokémon franchise continues to be one of the strongest brands in the history of video games. Since 2002, five sets of Pokémon titles have combined to exceed 10 million units sold to date worldwide, with three sets combining to surpass 15 million units.

      2. I picked Y for no particular reason other than because I thought that everyone was getting X. I was kind of right. Everyone I know, and the people at Gamestop waiting in line got X. Luckily, someone gave me their Charmander with its Charizardite X.

      3. Yes! A lot of people have picked up X. The man at my shop was surprised when i asked for Y and all the copies of X had actually sold out, haha. So it was a good thing i wanted Y, or i would of been pretty disappointed.

  1. Wondering if I should just wait for the 3rd game and skip these. The later one’s are usually more awesome, plus I wanna save for the Wii U! I can finally buy one just in time for the 2014 1st party blitz! Decisions, decisions…

    1. Welcome back…there are good days and bad days. ;) There some brave gamer chick here now, and the usuals. But the troll quality has dropped a bit. I can’t be offended half the time because I don’t know what they’re saying. Lol.

Anyway. Tough choice… If you can get a WiiU AND SMASH / Mario Kart, then maybe hold off on Pokemon and grab an indie title to hold you over?

    3. Tell me about it. It’s very annoying just to get responded by people with no life. If you don’t like Nintendo–You don’t like them. They shouldn’t constantly take time out of their day to irritate us. And I’m getting slightly annoyed there’s been no control over the trolls by the admins. Please get on this, MNN admins.

  3. They could have easily released this concurrently on the Wii U with slight graphical improvements. Heck, they could have easily released it as an eshop download with no graphical improvements — the functionality would have been largely identical and it would have moved systems immensely. The street pass stuff isn’t the crux of the game. I need to hear a better excuse than “herp derp, pocket monsters are for the pocket derp”.

      2. Nothing at all. As said above I bought one and traded it in after 1 week!!! -_- it was complete ASS. No good games, bad frame rate for games, horrible control lag, and so much more fail. Its a weak piece of crap. Even super Mario 64 for the emulator on it had slow down.

  4. I can tell by some of the comments that I read here that most people really studied up on X & Y and watched every single video etc. leading up to the launch. After all, how else would anyone know what Pokémon is featured in which game? I myself know NOTHING. Because I was never interested in watching any of the videos. I’m more interested in Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
