Rayman Legends Creator Says Innovation Is Both Nintendo’s Greatest Strength And Weakness

new_super_mario_bros_2_mario_flying.jpgUbisoft’s Michael Ancel has shared his personal views of Nintendo in the Official Nintendo Magazine’s latest issue. The Rayman Legends creator believes Nintendo’s ability to take great risks within the industry is both the company’s greatest strength and weakness. But Ancel’s a great believer in the Big N, saying it’s come up with some of the biggest surprises over the years.

“Nintendo’s greatest strength, and its greatest weakness, is innovation. It’s a company that takes a lot of risks. Few people understand that innovation involves risk-taking, because you don’t control everything on the market.

“Today, the biggest surprises seem to come from Nintendo. People may like those surprises or not, but that’s a fact. Miiverse was a surprise, the GamePad was a surprise. What will come next? I can’t wait!”

      1. innovative? i might be better but the the ps4 is a ps1 with alot better graphics and not so good games (so far). the only thing innovative they (sony) have done is the psp – This is Gamer, Peace Out

    1. Oh look, the faggot returns.
Tell me, bitch, how does it feel to know you’ve never once reached relevance in your life, unlike the Wii U?

          1. whch bad news?
I read UK increased the sales at humongous rates, so as US
also, Pokemon being the superior champion on sales this season(along with other big titles)
i dont see bad news here

              1. again, weird, you seem to lack that “exposing” detection
nintendo has its pros and cons, im not saying it is perfect
but as for now, only bad news is the plot third party hold to not “support” the WiiU(and yet we have several big third party games)

                1. Only this year.2014 nothing but Rehashed Dogshit. They bring More games for the 3dsKiddosgetblind than for The 3rd Party U.

          1. just like the ps3 you mean? that thing was lying dead for two years before sony started to support it. i don’t see them going full throttle for the ps4 from the beginning now that the ps3 finally got some speed.

  1. Well the whole idea of moving the games industry is to take risks and experiment. Obviously you tune the controls so that they work.

Can see Wii U overthrowing X1 and PS4, because of what it has to offer. Graphics are not the matter. It’s gameplay and the innovation of a game that makes it stand out.

    1. To all the clowns who purchased Wind Weaker HD. I thought you bought that Wii U for NEW & INNOVATIVE experiences

          1. We don’t need garbage like that when we have superior experiences that will go down in history like always…

        1. I love this “Wind Waker is a 10 year old game”, thing that the fanboys keep repeating to themselves over and over.

Going by their premise that “Nintendo is for little kids” (say 10 and below), then the majority of Nintendo’s fanbase wasn’t even alive when WW came out so to them it’s a completely new game…

          Contradictory, much?

          1. They cannot comprehend basic mathematics…

Most Nintendo fans are above 18 I’d say with millions of new recruits that are either replaced or have joined our empire every generation…

          2. *cough* Have no idea what “contradiction” you talking about. That what I been saying all the time. To all those babies who own a Wii U and never played the original, the Wind Waker “HD” is a new game. But for all who already played it before, it the same old game that was released 10 years ago. Same old outdated low polygon characters and environments, same old sound effects Nintendo been using in their games for the past 30 years. Same out outdated 10 year old particle/water effects. They so lazy they couldn’t even bother to add those dungeons that they didn’t put in the original.

      1. Yeah you know if xbox had any classics, micro would want some HD remakes too………and oh yeah, it is new and innovative…GO PLAY IT

      1. Hey, Can you tell me how the PSvita is? Enjoying your 2 games on it? Must be fun.
In other news, my comment is completely correct. There are so many stupid people who just find the need to hate on Nintendo when they are having troubles. Exact same thing happened with the 3DS.

              1. You “proof” nothing, lol! The only thing that you have “proof” is that you have the literacy skills of a two year old.

Maybe you should “proof” read your comments before you post them?

          1. Okay..there’s games on that list. Are any of them good? Gravity rush was an alright game, and a few other okay ones. And it’s not like it would even matter if it had good games, sales are awful anyway. And even if all these people keep saying ‘oh, the WiiU has failed herrherr’, well it dosent necessarily matter. None of the main hitters have reached the system yet. Same thing happened with the 3DS. Mario Kart, Zelda, Smash Bros, Donkey Kong, ect. It’s gonna do somewhat well. Any even if it flops, the 3ds is holding up well enough.

            1. Winx Infinity: Dance Party 101,The Smurfs 2,Tank! Tank! Tank!,SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton’s Robotic Revenge,Planes,Just Dance Kids 2014,Barbie Dreamhouse Party. Are Da Gaimz Any Good?

                  1. Alright, look at the third party titles that have nothing to do with anything. That’d be like me trying to make a point against the Xbox and going ‘oh, hey look at this Fifa 14 game!’, it’s just idiotic. Can you play Zelda? Can you play Smash Bros? Can you play Mario Kart? Can you play Pikmin? No, No No and No.

  2. Ancel is right about this. Nintendo consoles nowadays are the only ones with their own unique charm, there used to be Sega system too which had charm but nowadays its just Nintendo because Sony and Ms systems are almost identical without any of the charm.

  3. I agree with Ancel. I’m glad Nintendo is different and not heavy with shooters (though I’d love some Prime-styled Metroid in 2014).
Personally, I think they misfired with the Wii U launch. But in 2014, if they advertise like they used to, the Wii U won’t have any problems. And in these ads, show someone playing with the Pro controller so you don’t alienate people.

      1. the casuals are gone, on their phones but of course nintendo will shove the fans into back of the line to try to get them back when they are never coming back!!

nintendo fanboys are the worst and the dumbest.

  4. nintendo doesnt even try to innovate the right way any more…. there games. shit like wii fit doesnt count and you should feel ashamed if you are such a corporate slave to say so.

that biggest weakness he is talking about is the wii u.

    1. Aslong as Nintendo fans are happy with their own choices of buying games, why do you even care?…

      We don’t like uninvited self-proclaimed vigilantes here…

      1. The Wiiu is crap Even the Ouya Sell more consoles(Its a Kickstarter Console)than Wiiu. Now enjoy playing Barbie Dreamhouse Party Exclusiv for the Wiiu.

    2. Doing something that isn’t “the right way” for tired-ass dumbos like you is the definition of innovation. You know nothing about innovation, so I suggest you stop using that lexical field.

  5. Makes me laugh really.

People really think that X1 and PS4 will be better than Wii U. Complete rubbish to be honest. Also people are blind to the fact that the Wii U gamepad is revolutionary. If anyone was a real gamer, then they would know that something that adds another element into the mix makes a game better – what I am saying is, people do not know what they want until they see what can be done – they just assume the old style controller is the best. The game pad however eliminates things that you now no longer need to have, increasing and prolonging the experience.

A real developer and gamer explores new idea.

      1. Hey, toilet playing hasn’t been done with console games yet. By definition, that is innovation. You just continue to prove your jackassery, don’t you?

  7. Too bad after almost one year since the launch of their baby underpowered running on 7 year old hardware excuse of a console Nintendo still has no idea what the Gamepad is for.(contrary to the babies claims that they do). They haven’t made one single game that uses the Gamepad in a “unique” way that can’t be done in any other console. Some third party developers have actually done a better job at using the Gamepad than Nintendo itself has. Nintendo still has no idea what it’s for. They created this “new” hardware with the whole purpose of having this “Gamepad” yet they have no idea how to use it.
What innovation? Almost 3 Mario games for the Wii U in about a year. That sure is “innovative”.
A 10 year old Zelda remake that didn’t add anything new to the original. Yes, very innovative”
The Wii U Sports game due to release soon, where they still using their old outdated low polygon Mii’s from the Wii, they still can’t add arms to the poor things. Very, very “innovative”.
The last time Nintendo innovated was more than 10 years ago. They still living in the past with their old outdated hardware and old outdated no multi touch low resolution “Gamepad”. Nintendo still can’t figure out what “online” is, when they finally do get it it is not “innovative” anymore. If you are a baby and love baby games you sure are happy with the Wii U, all those old things are “new” to you.
