Two New Modes Revealed For Super Mario 3D World, Including One Where You Can’t Jump

super_mario_3d_world_coop

Apparently IGN posted an article about two new modes coming to Super Mario 3D World and have since removed the article. However, while the piece was up, it revealed that one of the modes will be called “The Adventures of Captain Toad,” which finds players guiding Toad using the gyrosensor of the Wii U gamepad. Toad is unable to jump in this mode. The second alternative mode, “Mystery House,” is based on the green bonus boxes from Super Mario 3D Land, and involves collecting green stars while fighting against the clock.

Not much else is known about these exciting new additions to Super Mario 3D World. It seems Nintendo may not have wanted IGN pulling the trigger so quickly on the reveal of these new aspects of the game. Perhaps Nintendo were planning on showcasing these modes at an upcoming gaming event? Here is Kenta Motokura speaking on Toad’s inability to jump in his new adventure mode:

“We first thought about new kinds of gameplay that we could achieve using the GamePad. One question we thought about is, Mario can usually jump. What if we had some feature where you weren’t allowed to jump? One of the things you can experience here is, removing the jump really changes the way you interact with the world and the enemies you encounter.”

      1. Good point. I do not understand anything about programming, but that makes sense.

Still, I wonder why how Nintendo is able compress their games in that extent… 1.7 Gb of content is almost nothing nowadays…

By the way, Stubbs, I just saw your reply to me about upgrading to the XL version. Thanks. I’m on the fence by the fact I’m happy with my tiny, original 3DS. But… If Nintendo releases that teal JP 3DS undisclosed yesterday in NA… I’ll pick that up in day one!

  1. 2 GB no way. That is amazing. I just deleted a bunch of software to make room for Deus Ex lol. Now I need to find the cheapest external HDD I can just so I can get a lot of my games back. Like Trine 2, The Cave, and many many more.

  2. Can’t wait for this game!

Btw, showed my big brother the new trailer, all he said was “it’s just a remake of the old Super Mario games”. I answered “Well, so are all Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, COD and especially Fifa sequles too”. All i got back was “but fifa is best”. Lol, he’s such a Nintendo hater, he buys all games like Fifa and stuff, but when Nintendo does something new with their games, he’s always like “that’s almost just like the old games”. Sometimes, I hate him for being so blind! xD

      1. Wrong. Nintendo innovates and pushes the industry. Everyone else copies and produces the same titles with better textures and a new name. COD, Halo, GT.. nothing new is really added. Nintendo adds new game mechanics, problem is every time they come up with a new mechanics they instantly look to apply it to their existing star franchises. Sales speak for themselves though.

              1. Then STFU with that dumb question and blind hate if you never bother to touch a single Nintendo system/game in your empty life.

      2. I know everything Nintendo does isn’t new, and I have nothing against people not liking their games, but when you dislike something without having anything to back you up, I’m going to call you a hater/fanboy.

        1. Can just as easily reverse that on people like you as well and says nintendo haters (which is sad in itself, have you got nothing better to do with your life) will deny and trash anything Nintendo say. Swings and roundabouts, mate.

    1. It’s actually a mix of minimal assets, and textures *blah blah no meaningless face polygons* and programmers who aren’t fucking shit.

Shin’en fit Nano Assault Neon into like 100mb, which is fucking crazy.

  3. Not jumping definitely sounds like an interesting twist, although in a game like Mario 64, that would be literally impossible for several levels. Still, consider DReager1 intrigued!

    1. Reminds me of the switch panel level in Galaxy, they fucked with your head big time. I can’t even imagine a mode where you cant jump

      1. They definitely went all out with that level. It was pretty unique and I definitely give Galaxy some points for that one. I hope that it’s only certain levels in Mario 3D World where this option is available, because I wouldn’t want many levels to be beatable without jumping. That sounds a little too easy, but it could be a nice challenge for some stages. No stomping on Goombas this time!

  4. I’m just as used to the fools hating on Nintendo just for the sake of it as I am Nintendo having an awesome franchise with awesome games. I was on the fence with this game when it was first shown, but I’m all but sold by now.

    5 player 3D Mario = Win.
Play as the four characters from SMB2 = So much Win.

The levels/graphics look amazing. It has all kinds of powerups in it. Does anyone else remember hearing that it will have the frog suit in it? I sure do.

    1. When they first showed the trailer I was so disappointed. But I will have top agree with you, the more I see the more I’m starting to like it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still on the fence, but I’m not totally against it by any means.

  5. Why do trolls have to exist?

If the person running this site is reading this comment, then listen carefully. YOU’RE BEING TOO LENIANT WITH THE COMMENT SECTION.

What’s stopping you from banning trolls? If it were me, I would’ve banned them long ago. But you keep letting them post. You’re not doing your job.

    1. Why do you have to exist you worthless piece of shit? You’re no more important than anyone else. In fact you’re below important. People like you always WHINING it pisses me RIGHT OFF. CUNT

      1. I whine because I just want to keep up with news about Nintendo without retarded pricks trying to piss me off because they have nothing better to do.

I nearly attacked my mother in a blind rage because of them. They need to go. It’s the only way.

    2. They recently just introduced a new system that has seemed to have decrease the ammount of people with need of something to do.or a life or maybe a girlfriend / boyfriend ( cause I don’t judge)..

Plus the other thing on my mind is that I don’t see any advertisements and it makes me wonder how if at all the owner of this site makes money to support this fast news.

        1. If trolls cause you to attack you’re mom then you are the one with the problem lol if you don’t like trolls don’t read the comments section cuz otherwise you sound like a whining bitch

  6. Interesting to know that the game will have two modes. That’s a new and different mechanic. Wouldn’t mind giving that a go.

  7. LOL THE WEAK U CANT RUN GAMES LIKE CALL OF DOOTY OR Ac4?I WONDER WHY?HMM 500mb Of RAM IS NOT ENOUGH LOL.PC MASTER RACE BELIVE IT OR NOT CONSOLEKIDDOS.BANG BANG.#WiiuDeadConfirmed.

    1. U know, I run Crysis 1-2 in my PC (12gb ddr3 ram /gtx580 1.5gb ddr5) and it barely uses 500MB of ram, so I must say, if Crysis (the best looking game on PC) doesn’t need a F#cking GB of ram, the Wii U with 1GB for games (the other one is for O.S) should be just fine
