This week’s Media Create sales are now in, and it’s time to get those party hats on for some serious celebrations as the Wii U rockets up to 38,802 sales. The striking rise in sales – compared to its 2k last week – is due to the release of a special Wii U deluxe, which comes bundled with Wii Party U, New Super Mario Bros. U, a Wii motion plus remote and a 30 day code for Wii Karaoke U. Wii Party U alone shifted over 37,000 sales this week – a tremendous amount given its dismal sales in the UK chart where it dropped out of the top 40 after its second week – and placed in at number six.
In terms of the Wii U’s position in the hardware charts, it becomes the second best-selling console this week, just behind the 3DS XL – now that’s what we call a Nintendo party. You can check out the top 10 software charts, where Pokemon X and Y rule the roost, and the hardware charts below.

Yeah, its good. It has everything to do with the bundles that were released on the October 30th. It also has to do why the numbers for the system were so low the two weeks before.
I totally called this too when everyone was doom and gloom over 5k or less units sold. Bundles of PartyU and KaraokeU are going to skyrocket system sales. Why pay more for less when they could wait it out?
Especially in the Japanese market where these two titles are going to be very popular. They love Karaoke over there.

The Japanese market is completely different from every other video game market in the world. You think it’s dumb? It is probably because you are not Japanese.
The casuals in every corner of this industry are who make the companies money. Without them, the funds available for these companies to make the games WE want to play would be non existent.

It wasnt just Wii Party U however. It had NSMBU and Wii Karaoke U and a Wiimote+. I don’t think it was the game so much as the value that caused the sales.
I’m not sure that it’s just the bundle. If it was, the other games would be on the sales chart as well. The only one there is Wii Party U.
According to another chart (Famitsu – http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=710348 ), Wii Party U sold 79k which I assume would be as part of the bundle. That chart also shows NSMBU. The one that MNN shows doesn’t include bundle numbers.
I think if the Wind Waker HD bundle was available in Japan the sales there would have certainly already skyrocketed but this is wonderful news

Thing is, I’m not just talking about the hardware sales. The game, Wii Party U, sold a lot. Media Create doesn’t show the copies from the bundle.
With the bundle, Wii Party U sold almost 80k according to the Famitsu sales chart.

There’s a misunderstanding here. Wii U JUST got the price cut in the form of the Mario U and Wii Party U bundles. This cut and BOTH of these bundles were all that were needed to get the sales rolling. I’m sure they like Party U, mind you, but I don’t think its release was what was needed.

I think it’s because the Japanese see games as a social activity. As opposed to in other parts of the world where most ppl enjoy playing multiplayer online or single player campaigns. That’s the only reason I can think of

Yep, if a party game pushes sales this much, 3D World is gonna send the WiiU into orbit. MK8 will do it again, as will DKCR, to a lesser extent, “X” will do it again, and of course Zelda WiiU will be the one to cement the system’s userbase for years to come.
Pretty funny how all the sites and trolls who said the 3DS would fail have shut up about it and are now saying the same for WiiU. Perhaps when they’re proven wrong AGAIN, they’ll sit back and take stock of what they’re doing, maybe realizing that they’re wasting their time. Truth is that after release of Drive Club moved to next year Xbox One has better non-multiplatform games at it’s release day than PS4.

Not bad for Pikmin 3 to move Wii U hardware that was $350. Mario 3D World will do even more. The price cut will be even easier.

hmm, I think we’re all getting a little too excited over one week. Pikmin 3 gave us a decent boost for a few minutes as well, but look where that turned out! Not trying to be a super downer or anything…..
This is still good for Wii U. While it may not be good for the future gaming selection of the Wii U, at least it’s starting to sell. While I don’t think it will defeat the One and 4 like the Wii beat up the PS3 and 360, it’ll at least make it more of a fight now. With the 3DS to support it as well, Nintendo is finally rising again!

I will agree that people are TOO optimsitic here. When playstation vita had it’s best week, it didnt even beat a regular 3ds week in Japan. Same is with Wii U. I think it will be the same like ps vita. This was a major title for casuals and it didnt even go to top 1.. And next week it will be back to nothing again. When 3ds got price cuts and games it sold millions of millions, and this just 30k.
But we don’t really care about the PS Vita in here…

Like Pikmin 3 did, I expect next week older Wii U tittles to reach top ten. Those 38k new owners are going to buy games. I expect Pikmin 3, Lego City Monster Hunter 3 to get back or at least near top ten again. Hell maybe Sonic can get to top 20.

I have one concern, though. We know Mario 3D World is just around the corner, so that will sustain Wii U sales. But what about after that game launches? The next notable game after 3D World seems to be DCKR: Tropical Freeze, and that has been delayed until February..
Funny, last week around this time when Wii U sold less than 3000 units, I could find many articles showing how bad Wii U did. Yet I’m having trouble finding articles now that Wii U has sold will over 38K in a week. Also it’s funny, the journalist claim how weak Wii U is and won’t put multiplayer games to compare just how weak they claim it is to the PS4 or Xboxone. That must mean that you must have a hard time showing which is better. Because if it wasn’t it would have already been a video comparison by now. Also, I noticed how the media is trying to keep it hush hush about Wii U’s games at 1080p 60fps by acting like the XBONE is not struggling trying to get up to it. That’s why word is the reason why AC4 is not 1080 P 60fps on Wii U is so it doesn’t make the Xbone look bad. Microsoft probably paid them to be sure that Wii U doesn’t surpass Xbone.
Lets see what happens when Watch Dogs and Ghost arrives on all platforms. Lets see if the hating journalist will compare Wii U’s versions to PS4/xbone or will they play dumb by only comparing it to 360 and PS3 like AC3? yet they don’t have problem comparing Ac4 to PS3, 360, PS4 and Xbone.
*AC4 not 3. Funny how they won’t to defend the xbone and PS4 for being only ports yet was all on the Wii U’s version of Ac3 ignoring that that was a port too.
People are just biased against Nintendo. It sucks, but it’s true. Nintendo deserve respect. They’re the company responsible for most of the innovations and breakthroughs in gaming history. Fuck what the mainstream says.. I’ll always love Nintendo.

Got my deluxe bundle this July for $320. It included Zombie U, NSMBU, Nintendo Land, and Pro controller… plus a reciept showing that it was 11 days old. Gotta love Craig’s List!!!
