Here’s A Captain Toad Level From Super Mario 3D World Shown For The First Time

Back in October we covered a story in which IGN revealed the existence of a new alternate mode in Super Mario 3D World, called The Adventures of Captain Toad. Now a level from this new mode has been revealed for the first time. The new level features Captain Toad, who featured prominently in the Galaxy series, attempting to climb some terrain that’s infested with enemies, all while lacking the ability to jump. Players have to shift the camera in 360 degrees around the world in order to uncover all the secrets and paths necessary for Toad to traverse. These levels are very puzzle-like in nature, and the object is to collect all of the stars in each level. What do you think of the new Captain Toad levels? Let us know in the comments.

      1. I’m guessing it’s because it’s a gimmick that is lame. Nothing about that was engaging or challenging. Perhaps later ones are more creative and difficult, but when all you can do is walk, design options seem limited.

      1. I obviously do, and this is one. Its a trashy bonus level that tries to utilise every gamepad feature. Should be a nintendo land attraction

      2. By your logic a bonus level is a gimmick. Man if you were a game developer your product would BOMB!
        your shit. Pure dirt

      3. A “gimmick” by your standards is anything that’s added to a product that developers find a way for the player to use. Guess what else was a gimmick, and still is a gimmick? The fucking analog stick. So stop acting like this is the worst thing ever, especially because you haven’t tried it you dingus.

      4. I agree completely. It’s tacked on and adds nothing other than ‘look, the gamepad IS useful!’. Analogue sticks are different, because games didn’t need to go out of their way to make the stick relevant. That’s an innovation, it applies to almost every game, and changes the way we play in a positive, useful way. This is a gimmick.
It’s not the fact that it’s a bonus level that I have a problem with, it’s the fact that it’s tacked on without adding anything.

  1. i really hope that levels get longer than those that have been shown.

are all the levels in the 3ds game as short? never played it myself

    1. Quite short, yes. It’s not aiming to be Mario 64/Sunshine/Galaxy style game with long levels that play like a big adventure (although Galaxy 2 abandoned that completely and just focused on micro levels. That game is so overrated). Think of it more as NSB with three axis movement.

    2. The length of this level isn’t indicative of the game as a whole. It’s like the roulette minigames in Mario Bros 2 or the card matching game from Mario Bros 3. It’s a just short puzzle diversion from the usual gameplay.

That being said, 3D Land had large amount of short levels. To me, at least, the game never felt cut off or incomplete. It was more about the quantity of levels than the longevity of levels.

  2. Looks amazing! Can’t wait to get my hands on this. Next Thursday when I get paid totally Picking up Sonic Lost World and Pre ordering and paying off Super Mario 3D World!!!

I wonder after you beat the game and 100% it if it does what Super Mario World did? Turned the whole world into fall time and some of the enemies changed. I could only hope we see something awesome like that.

      1. That is so stupid, to call someone scum for not liking something. By your standards, everyone who disliked Superman 64 was scum because at least it’s another game we have the option of playing. Bad things get criticised. Nintendo is not a benevolent charity that we must be grateful for, if they make a product someone doesn’t like, they are not scum for voicing their opinion. People that would oppress that, however, are probably scum.

    1. Okay, you haven’t even played the game yet, and you’re calling it “trash”. I’m not saying they’ll be the greatest thing ever, but there’s little merit to your claim if you haven’t even played the dang thing yet.

  3. This is really cool! Huge Mario fan here. I don’t care how short or easy this is, I like the idea if extra content. Cool that you can’t jump, I’m sure they’ll get hard as game progresses. This game becomes more appealing every time I learn something new.

  5. When i start watching the video, i thought it will be a Custom Worlds Creator or something like that… but no… It just a “FEZ” gamemode thats not bad…

    1. Hey man go ahead and dream, but this isn’t the game where Nintendo would put in a world creator. Don’t you think that’s be headline news? Maybe you should use logic and be happy your getting shit all in the first place before I hunt you down, come to your house, and strangle you out

  6. Where’s the challenge and all the levels seen so far are really, really short? I hope things get a lot more interesting than what’s been presented thus far. It looks like a “FAMILY” game than for the seasoned Mario gamer.
