After Registering Nintendo Network ID, 3DS Users Won’t Be Able To Change Regions, Currency

nintendo_network_logo

In the aftermath of today’s big announcement that Nintendo will be releasing an update to incorporate Miiverse and Nintendo Network IDs on the 3DS, Nintendo UK has announced that after 3DS users register a Nintendo Network ID, they will be unable to change their system’s region. In addition to this, users will be unable to use multiple currencies in the Nintendo eShop. Any currency that does not correspond to the country that your system is registered in will be deleted and no longer usable on your 3DS, so Nintendo encourages you to use up these funds beforehand. Some already believe Nintendo has taken region-blocking to the extreme. What do you think about these new limitations?

After registering a Nintendo Network ID, you will be unable to change regions and use multiple currencies – for instance, pounds and euros – in Nintendo eShop. The funds in the currency that corresponds to the country setting of your Nintendo Network ID will remain, and any funds in other currencies will be deleted and no longer usable. Please make sure to use up any other currencies before registering a Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo 3DS system.

      1. It affects me. In my country we get no demos on the eshop, no Nintendo video, and a bunch of other stuff removed (because since Nintendo won’t give the same content to every content in the world, they may aswell just support the big ones and leave the small ones like mine out).

So, for example, I will set my account to canada or USA, but then I won’t be able to participate in my country rankings, if I set it to my country then I won’t be able to download demos and a lot of other stuff.

See the problem for some of us?

        1. lol! I didn’t think that there were such things as online taxes. Maybe it is because I live in New Hampshire? We only have prepared food tax here and property tax, nothing else.

          1. The handheld has been region locked since launch, if you bought the handheld and found a way around it then good for you, but it was sold to everyone with that in mind. If its fucks you over then its because you fucked up, not Nintendo.

    1. This affects European 3DS owners the most, as they will have to choose between using their country’s native currency and the euro.

      1. And some games are actually cheaper in £, aren’t they? Or is that not true anymore? I just know 1000 Wii points used to cost £7 or 10€, which is a difference indeed, and that’s why I had my region set to UK even though I’m not from there – maybe that’s not the case in the 3DS shop.

  1. People from other parts of the world use the canadian store to buy games with a decent price. In Brazil, games are sold for as high as R$ 149,90, that’s around US$ 64 for an already overpriced digital US$ 40 game

    1. Aren’t you a little special snowflake? Why not also mention that despite retail titles every other eShop game on brazillian eShop is usually cheaper than US/Canadian eShops? And Amsterdamsters is right it’s Brazilian governments fault not Nintendo’s. Cry a river.

    1. most likely it will, as this will Unify any Nintendo related material, even your FC code
Maybe FC will not get replaced but instead “emulated” by the NinID, since many games, specially Pokemon, uses them
So, lets say you use FC, and you then register the ID, the FC will still be linked to that ID, just that you will no longer need to share the FC directly but a ID

    1. lol, why did you use your full name? It tells you in the beginning not too. Haven’t you ever heard of user ID’s or gamertags or something? No one uses their real name.

      1. Idk I guess I was so excited to play it. I bought it midnight launch at the Nintendo World Store. Got to meet Reggie lol.

    2. SherlockWillFightBilbo

Since you used your full name, you should probably contact Nintendo about this. They can change it manually but only do so under certain circumstances. I’m 99% confident this is one of them.

  2. I don’t really care because it won’t effect me. Then again, it would for some people. And what if this is only in Europe? Bill said nothing about this in the Nintendo direct this morning.

  3. i had to use canada or usa just to use the eshop cause i live in south america and there is no eshop in here and now this.
i think nintendo just want to screw all the latin american ppl

    1. i’m from mexico, and registered my wii u on mexico and my nintendo id on mexico… and we have a mexican eshop, which country do you live?

      1. In Latinamerica, only Mexico and Brazil have their own eShop. The other countries are screwed. I live in Colombia and I have to use the Canadian eShop to do my purchases. That sucks.

    1. Not always.

“It doesn’t affect me one bit, but I feel sorry for those who are affected.”

“It doesn’t affect me, and I’m grateful that this is the case. Best of luck to everybody else.”

“We didn’t lose power in the storm, so you can concentrate your efforts elsewhere.”

It’s more of a matter on context.

  4. “…Oh I got it! Then while we’re at it, pleasing them n goofing around, let’s put this shit in just to mess wit ’em”

  5. Well the PSN also doesn’t let you switch regions in your account on Vita. At least the 3DS will have an account system and I won’t have to be afraid to lose my purchases if I lose my 3DS right? right…?

  6. Well it is a darn good thing I won’t be living in another country any time soon.

Plus even if I did, I can switch 3DS’ 5 times and each new time you transfer saved data over, you can change your region and currency. I doubt anyone will be moving to 5 different regions in such a short period of time. If there is someone, they are a fraction of a fraction of the world’s population.

  7. Hello every one, here every one is sharing these experience, therefore it’s nice to read this web site, and I used to visit this weblog all the time.

  8. That doesn’t affect me, but it’s sad that is have to affect anyone. Now, I didn’t know I could just change land to Sweeden or something and get a cheaper game anyeays, so it doesn’t change much for me.

  10. Substances in food stuff, particularly those take out foods that have become so popular, are actually detrimental for your weight issues. You can resort to fake abs surgery, like Darryn Lyons did, to experience this look. This has the ability to moderate your appetite.

  15. Was considering selling my 3ds XL until I heard the unified account announcement. But after reading this, I may either sell my 3ds or just outright not update my 3ds at all until Nintendo removes region locking. Bottom line.

  17. Being held in the domains of the society, they have marred the rules that are held against them and have been successful in entering into the bigger world with prominent influence. It’s very rare that an US drama with underrated, unique, and original storytelling is put into the spotlight as many K-Dramas. An informed populace who has the wherewithal to know what lies beyond their borders will rise up and take action.

  20. Y’know, I wouldn’t mind doing things the “legal” way and choosing my own country (and losing access to most eshop content)

The only problem is, I can’t even select my own country. Which is why I’ve been drifting between Canada and Brazil eshop. And now what does Nintendo expect me to do? Any country I choose would still be lying to them
