Ubisoft Pledges Support For Nintendo

watch_dogs

Ubisoft has affirmed their support for the Nintendo Wii U with rumors swirling around that the company would discontinue their long-standing relationship with Nintendo home consoles. In a statement, Ubisoft listed a number of high quality titles that they have already released on the Wii U, as well as their much-anticipated title Watch Dogs, as proof of their continued support of the platform. Watch Dogs was originally slated for a holiday release but has been pushed back to Q2 of 2014. What do you think of the Ubisoft lineup of games on the Wii U? Have they delivered quality experiences on the system?

“Ubisoft has a long-standing relationship with Nintendo. Most recently this has been reinforced by our varied and high-quality line-up for Wii U, with big titles including Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Just Dance 2014, Rayman Legends, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist already released and Watch Dogs on the way.”

    1. Exclusivity is irrelevant.

Content on the system regardless of exclusivity is important.

Rayman Legends on Wii U is great. It doesn’t matter if its on other systems.

      Nintendo publishes enough exclusive content.

        1. Ubisoft is at the very least releasing their AAA games on wiiU. Making rayman legends multiplat was about the only way to make money on the damn thing, as it is it barely sold despite being on wiiU, ps3, 360, vita, and pc. Imagine if it would of stayed wiiU exclusive. These companies need money to survive. They have shareholders to please, equipment to buy, and employees to pay. Whenever I read a “fuck ubisoft they’re turning their back on nintendo” comment I automatically picture the little kid typing on the keyboard. That being said delaying a finished game was a stupid move.

          1. they should keep the rayman exclusive and if i wasnt selling well they should going multiplat and everyone happy. sry for the broken english.

          2. It would’ve done better if it was wiiU exclusive. There were very few games out at the time and wiiU owners were ready to buy it then. Delaying for a multiplat release burned a bunch of U owners, myself included. They went ahead and picked up better games that were competing for the same $$$ at that time. I still haven’t purchased it and won’t until its on the discount rack anyway. Ubisoft messed up, obviously.

      1. Being able to play games on other platforms doesn’t drive console sales. High quality games exclusive to the Wii U is what will sell the system, and Nintendo isn’t putting these out fast enough. They need support from 3rd parties to help.

      2. Exactly! As long as the game is there that is what I care about. However, for other people who aren’t Nintendo fans, having 3rd party exclusives would help boost interest and sales.

  1. I don’t believe it. They may still support Nintendo, but they’re slowly trying to get away from Nintendo, evidenced by making Rayman Legends multiplatform.

    1. Ubisoft has supported the Wii U more than almost every other third party. They’ve released solid, sometimes even superior ports on the Wii U for all their games.

    2. But at the end of the day, a company’s goal is to make money, and porting games to multiplatform is the easiest way of making extra revenue without an expensive additional investment. Think of it this way: Ubisoft probably spent a fraction of the cost to make Rayman Legends for Wii U to port it to other consoles, but consequently doubled or tripled profits. Porting and Multiplatform = Profit.

      1. However, time also plays an issue. Porting games to Wii U can probably be done similarly with a fraction of a cost, but the profit boost isn’t in the same proportions as other consoles due to the limited install base. Sure, they would still make a profit, but they might make more profit if that time spent porting was spent on something else. That’s why Nintendo had an outside company port OoT 3D and Wind Waker HD – having their own team port it would have essentially been a waste of time to future projects.

    3. You should want their games to be successful. In order to do that, they had to go multiplatform. Instead of holding childish grudges, support the content.

      1. well other consoles and not ps3 and xbox 360 because if the games are on those consoles as well and on the wiiu, then no one will get wiiu ver because a lot of people already own ps3 or xbox 360 already.

    4. yeah talk is cheap and i do believe support will slowly fade and that goes for the rest of third parties unless there games sell really well on wii u they will shove ports in. if there games sold well on a toaster they would shove there game in… look at ps3 360 and how dated and archaic the architecture is and they made ac4 work well on those systems… maybe not ps3 but 360 version is good…wiiu version is better…

    5. We gotta get over that people. It was the smartest move they could have done. The Wii U was selling poorly and they want to actually make some money. We can’t start treating Ubi bad because they are one of the few 3rd parties that treat us decently.

    1. Lmao! If AC4 is the only game you enjoy on the Wii U, you have awful taste and don’t have much of a say in the matter.

    2. Black list was really the only bad game Ubi released for Wii U. They later fixed the bugs (I think). Regardless they release AC 3/4 Zombie U (mixed reception but still exclusive.) Rayman Legends, ect. ect. You can’t expect them to be perfect every time.

      1. delay for raman legends and the wiiu ver so the most… not sure why it didn’t sell much on ps3/xbox 360 since they claim that the fan wants it. then they said that they didn’t make the game for the wiiu yet.

    1. Word! I want The Division on Wii U so badly and we all know that the Wii U architecture can handle it with maybe slightly less textures and FPS. Please Ubi, make it happen!

  2. I’m happy with their support so far. Rayman and SC:Blacklist are games that I constantly replay for my WiiU. I wish the SC servers were a bit fuller, but I can hardly blame that on them. Although, cross-platform multiplayer would be pretty slick.

    1. Right? No reason other devs like EA and other shouldn’t support Wii U. Ubisoft, even though I’m not a fan of theirs overall, they’re great when it comes to supporting Nintendo. Other devs need to follow their example.

  3. You know somebody’s a Nintendo fanboy when they say there’s no 3rd party games, and then every game they port over is a “half-assed port” according to them…sigh

    1. Lol right? Many of the ports have actually been difinitive versions. Arkham City, ACIII, AC4(minus the PS4/Xbone versions) Black Ops 2, and so on.

  4. I’m certainly glad that someone is supporting the WiiU. My local Walmart revamped their entire video game section for the new consoles. It took down the WiiU section and setup for the XboxOne. They spread it out, so now what they have is a huge section for XboxOne, no WiiU set up and no section for the PS4, which is out, by the way. I guess we all know where their support is gonna lie.

    1. As someone who’s worked in Toys R Us electronics, I know Walmart doesn’t just decide which console gets the most space. All that display space is purchased by Microsoft. It’s Sony’s and Nintendo’s own faults for not spending the advertisement money.

      Shame though.

    2. That’s horrible, why would they…well actually Walmart is pretty dumb with their games, they STILL have PS2 games on sell in the store! No joke.

      1. The “Walmart is so stupid” moment for me was Madden 2002. I believe that was the one. It had Dante Culpepper on the cover. I still ran across it at a few Walmarts in my area for $19.99 about a year or two ago. It must have been an oversight. And to Adrian’s point, Microsoft may pay for the space, but they can’t make Walmart sell them that exclusivity. Walmart will choose to sell it to them, but Microsoft doesn’t walk in and say, “Walmart you are gonna give us you’re entire electronics department to promote our new system. We will pay you a lot of money, but we want all the space.” And they didn’t have a single PS4 anything in their department. I saw no system setup for demos, no systems to sell, no accessories, no place for the games, no graphics up anywhere. PS4 has actually been released. It’s available for sale right now – just not at this particular Walmart. The XboxOne isn’t out yet and they have about 20 feet of giant signs to hold its place, and nothing but some games and a few boxed WiiU systems in a case. I was in retail management for 15 years and it was just the most lopsided department I have ever seen.

  5. Where’s The Division for Wii U?
And my retailer just informed me, that WD dedsec edition is not coming for Wii U, not that its a deal breaker, but still.

  6. Delaying a finished game just to make it release at the same time as the other versions wasn’t cool, but they still have supported the Wii U more than other 3rd parties. I only need one reason to love them: Zombi U. That’s still probably my favorite game on Wii U so far. Either that or Pikmin 3. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate would be on that list if I hadn’t played the crap out of Tri on the Wii already, but it’s still an awesome game. Anyways, keep up the support, Ubisoft, and please make a Zombi U sequel! I know you said you wouldn’t, but give it another chance!

  7. If Ubisoft really want to sell games on the Wii U, sell exclusivities ! Not cross-platforms games we can play on PC in a WAY better quality…

  8. FUCKYOUDISNEYANDYOURMONOPOLY

if Ubisoft would just give Wii U owners another Zombi U game, we would all be happy campers and would never question their relationship with Nintendo. :P
I mean come on Zombi U is great even if it’s a low budget, buggy, terrible low quality textures filled game with probably 3 voice actors in total. The Gameplay sets it apart from all games, XP Zombi U has sooo much untapped potential, since the first game is out and there s a fan base to it, now all ubisoft has to do is go in with a second game and polish the hell out of the game play, make a good story line, and work at making those visuals great!, with awesome online game play!

    1. I totally agree! I’m so hoping that Uni announces a zombiu sequel. I mean come one 500,000 copies sold with a Wii U install base of only 3.9 million is pretty darn good!

  9. I like ubisoft but the games they decide to bring to the console while great I don’t think it favors the console demographic. Where’s TRIALS and ports of their strategies games on wiiu?

  10. Can you people all imagine the outcry if instead of releasing AC3 on time they had delayed it so it could be put on the Wii U? That is what happened with Rayman Legends except it was worse, it was supposed to exclusive and its release would have come at a time when the Wii U was seriously desperate for quality titles. I think if a 9.5 rated game, exclusive to the Wii U had come out in early spring, maybe the rhetoric wouldn’t have been so awful towards the Wii U. Instead they f’cked us and we all know the rest.

That said, they are doing their bare minimum in supporting the Wii U. Yes, they are bringing games to the Wii U but they aren’t going out of their way to make it the best it can be (Rayman Legends withstanding since it was designed for the Wii U originally) and sometimes games are missing content i.e. online, multiplayer, DLC, etc. I do appreciate the effort and as I have said all along, I will speak with my wallet by not buying their games upon release. I will wait till prices drop for Rayman and Splinter Cell. I have zero interest in AC4. If however they have made a good faith effort with Watch Dogs I will support them day one.

Sadly, as mediocre as their support has been, it is still the best for 3rd party. But maybe these companies will finally learn that Nintendo gamers tend not to buy fps and dudebro games. At least not en masse. So how about they develop a new IP around the Wii U that sparks the imagination and try to put Mario/Zelda to shame? lol..I know, never going to happen.

  11. If activision supported the wiiu the same way has ubisoft we would have atleast got a decent port of Diablo 3 wich is the only good game being released by them this year.

  12. I BEEN IMPRESSIVE ON HOW BAD UBISOFT TITLES ARE DOING ON WII U. THEY ALL BEEN HIGH QUALITY GAMES ASIDE FROM JUST DANCE..

U CHEAP BASTARDS. I HOPE THERES NO MORE THIRD PARTY SO WE HAVE TO WAIT A YEAR FOR A RECYCLED 2D OR 3D MARIO.

    1. Is their fault is not selling they actually don’t show or say the wiiu version of their games in conventions until is close to release.

  13. Help publish Suda51 to make No More Heroes 3 again.

Also, maybe unrelated to Ubi, WiiU could do with a fighting game (that’s not Smash) , maybe my dream fighter of Platinum X Grasshopper @___@

    1. NC don’t be so cocky, of course Nintendo games are awesome supremely, but we need more support from the 3rd party alliance, we have no alliance with the EA Empire or from the Activisonians but perhaps until we get our feet off the ground we must work with the Ubisoftians

  14. Got mixed opinions about this. If ubisoft is pledging support for the Wii U, why are they giving us gimped ports of Splinter Cell Blacklist (no coop mode) and Assassin’s Creed IV (no dlc)? If they do this again for Watch Dogs, I may not be supporting them ever again.

P.S Rayman Legends is still the best game I ever played hands down.

P.P.S. Is Assasin’s Creed IV better without dlc? I’ve got an unopened copy of the Wii U version for free from a trade-in promotion a couple of weekends ago and am currently debating whether to exchange it for the ps3 version or CoD Ghosts or another game.

  15. “Most recently this has been reinforced by our varied and high-quality line-up for Wii U”

    That’s debatable.

  16. Yeah, High quality line-up my ass.
How about you give me some more non-gimped, half-baked games.
The only major full game we got from these guys was Rayman Legends, but that doesn’t excuse them because of the half-year delay bullcrap.
You’re not supporting Nintendo, Ubisoft. you’re being greedy. You give us Wii U owners games with missing features or exclude us from DLC, but then throw a bitch fit when the game doesn’t sell well on Wii U. I take that as an insult. You devs think I’m gonna mindlessly buy a inferior game? No, that’s what I have Gamefly for. I’ll rent, play through the game and send it back. I’m not wasting my money on that shit.
I will be buying Watch dogs though, that’s probably the only game I see worthy of money. Unless Ubisoft decides to fuck Nintendo users over last minute before the release..

    1. Despite fanboys praising them for just “releasing games” for the Wii U, It’s pretty obvious that ubisoft were “Given Funding”, to go multiplat with Rayman Legends.

Apart from Rayman Legends, I wouldn’t recommend any other Ubisoft game for Wii U over the PS3 or 360 versions.

Quick and nasty 360 ports are hardly what I would call “high-quality”.

  17. Any further support would be welcomed, but it depends on how they show their support. Inferior ports etc won’t be worth it. If Ubisoft released the games meant for PS4 and XO on the Wii U (as long as they’re not inferior content-wise), then sure, I’m all for that. Any exclusives along the way would be most welcomed, but not strictly required.

    1. Putting playstation and Xbox games on the system isn’t going to help the Wii U as you can buy them on Xbox and playstation.

Obviously there are a couple of exceptions to this, but Nintendo really need to move on from AAA third party titles, PS3 and 360 are basically a mirror image of each other there’s room for a third company to come in offer the same 3rd party experience.

      1. It’s all about software availability. If those that own only a Wii U have the games that are available on the other two systems, then they don’t have to buy another system just to accommodate for those games. I’m all for that if that’s what Ubisoft mean by support, but that doesn’t remedy the immediate problem (therein lies the validity of your point in the second part of your response).

  18. at least we can count on ubisoft for now. nintendo should be doing all they can to get other top notch 3rd party devs to make games for wiiu, but of course they aren’t doing shit.

    1. They can’t because they would go bankrupt, this is what iwata was saying when he was talking about price wars and money giving..

Sony and MS are operating at a loss, Nintendo would have to operate at a bigger loss just to compete with them. But unlike Sony and MS, Nintendo don’t have other business interests to cover these losses.

  19. Too bad Ubisoft has stated that Watch Dogs on Wii U looks closer to current gen (now that new consoles are releasing last gen) than next gen consoles lolol. Too bad there will be no Wii U versions of “The Division” or “The Crew” lololol.

The Wii U couldn’t even get GTA5 from Rockstar lololol.

But babies will be happy with another baby Mario game, right? lololol More baby games please lolol. Non babies are supposed to be happy that the Wii U doesn’t get those games because the babies will mention a bunch of baby games that are supposed to entertain them lololololol!!! Mario this and Mario that, baby game this and baby game that LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!! The Wii U got games, baby games that is HAHA!!!

  20. As long as they keep putting their games on Nintendo platforms I shall buy. I have bought Rayman Legends, Assassin’s Creed III, ZombiU, Splinter Cell Blacklist and I plan on buying Assassin’s Creed IV as well as having Watch_Dogs pre-ordered. Keep them coming Ubisoft!

    1. Yup anything will do, roll out the gimped ports Ubisoft. Some people will still buy them in the hope that you’ll do a proper job three years down the line..

  21. Well i have an Xbox 360 with AC3 and the wii U Version is miles better….. Better graphics (AA works!) gamepad support and was cheap at 15€ too. also ot ZombiU,Rayman Raddids Land (was bad sry Ubi) and zonbiU..
ZombiU was the reason why i got a Wii U. Its not perfect but has a lot of potential and very very HARD reminded me more of the old RE games.

PLEASE UBISOFT ZombiU2 and trhe Division on the Wii U.

PS got both Batmans 2 ;) PC Version of Arkha City yes its grapihically better but the Gamepad support i dont want to miss……..
