UK Charts: Super Mario 3D World Enters At Number 14

This week’s UK charts are now in courtesy of GFK Chart Track. Super Mario 3D World for Wii U holds its own amongst the tidal wave of PlayStation 4 software, and charts in at number 14 in the all-formats as the highest published game by Nintendo. Nevertheless, it is a disappointing debut for Mario & Co. Last week, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds debuted at number 9, but this week slips to 17. However, Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2014 boogies its way back into the top 10, mainly due to sales from the Wii version.

As the Christmas season gets into full swing, 3DS titles continue to sell well, with Animal Crossing New: Leaf, Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy, Pokemon X and Y, and Mario Kart 7 holding their ground within the all-formats top 40. You can check out the top 10 all-formats chart below, or in full here, as well as the individual charts, here.

  1. Call of Duty: Ghosts
  2. FIFA 14
  3. Battlefield 4
  4. Killzone: Shadow Fall
  5. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
  6. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes
  7. Grand Theft Auto V
  8. Need For Speed: Rivals
  9. Just Dance 2014
  10. Batman: Arkham Origins

    1. Only this week. Mario got more legs and will sell through lifetime constantly, Knack will be knacked already next week like Toblerone within 1 second.

  1. It’s a bit sad. I bought this game. I was really against it(as it looks like mario 3d land rehash), and even it is a mario 3d land rehash, the game is just wonderful, even for someone who doesnt like mario much. Just amazing platformer, and finally i can play either with toad or peach instead of those two fat plumbers

  2. It’s sad to look at that sales list. In 1st place you have the worst CoD title yet, in 4th you have the worst Killzone yet, and then in 10th place you have the buggiest mess of a Batman game. People are really willing to fork over $60 for crap like that? At least wait till Batman actually works.

    1. Ghosts couldn’t be any worse than MW3. Technically… SM3DW is a graphically enhanced multiplayer version of 3DL.

      1. It really isn’t. It’s much more than that. Comparing 3D Land with 3D World is like comparing the original Super Mario Land with the original Super Mario World. 3D World is just so much better in every aspect.

  3. Such a huge shame that the majority go with style over substance. This game deserves to reach a huge market, but probably won’t due to the short attention span and small minds of a new generation of gamers.

  4. SEE THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT. TELL ME WHERE DID MYNINTENDONEWS REPORTED ABOUT HOW MARIO 3DW SOLD 243K IN 2 DAYS IN USA LOL????

IT WAS GREAT NEWS SO THEY SAID FUCK IT. BUT THEY REPORTED ABOUT JAPAN AND UK.

AND NOW I SAY FUCK YOU TO ALL U MODS

        1. That site seems to have about 5 to 10% accuracy, with no digital sales data.

But yes, it seems rather weird that EU only has about 800k Wii U sales,
          and Japan over 1 million.

          1. OH, but trust me, when the sales are abysmal, this website uses VGCharts as it’s main source. They’re just that awful as reporters

            1. Yes, that is pretty common.
When VGCharts makes Nintendo look bad, its a good source.
If it makes Nintendo look good, its a bad source.

      1. SM3DW WENT ON SALE ON THE 22th. THE USA WEEKLY CHART ENDED ON THE 23th ACCORDING TO VGCHARTZ.

SO AROUND THOSE 2 DAYS MARIO SOLD 243,193 PHYSICAL COPIES NOT COUNTING DIGITAL. BUT NOBODY KNOW BECAUSE MYNINTENDONEWS DOESNT REPORT ANY GOOD NEWS NOWADAYS

        1. No because vgchartz is not a credible source. If my nintendo news used vgchartz as their source they’d be a laughing stock

  5. I think that with the number of AAA titles the past month, its a bad choice for ANYBODY to release their game at this time. Look at Pokémon X or Y for example. It should have been in the top charts, but instead dropped below 10th place already. I thought that Nintendo should have released Pokémon X and Y, ALBW, SM3DW all at January or February, as those months looks like there are no new releases and most of the AAA games would have dropped out of the charts by then, so it would be easier for those games to have attention from the internet or the game stores, as they would be the only new games for a few weeks, and would have better sales.

    1. January is the worst month for game releases. People is using that moth to recover from the holiday spending madness and will not buy anything at least till February at the earliest.

  6. Why didn’t my Nintendo news report how many copies it sold in the US? Also I’m shocked physical copies made it to 20 spot. What about digital copies?

  7. LOL told you all this game wasn’t going to be a system seller. Guess we gotta wait till next year now right ? And when those games fail we gotta wait another year too right ? Lol fanboys

    1. All I gotta say is if M3DW doesn’t pick up, Smash is their last hope. This isn’t hater talk, but seriously I love Nintendo. If their main game can’t at least budge sales a little… How can you expect anything else too?

  8. Nothing short of pathetic. Nintendo need to buck their ideas up and stop thinking they are on the right path. I think it’s time Mr Iwata was shown the door.

  9. Wii U seems to be lost cause in UK. It,s a shame because SM3DW turned out to be a great game but people will rather buy COD and FIFA.
The biggest crime of the year was how Rayman legends flopped on every platform. Rayman Legends is oozing with charm, style and creativity. Perfect controls, amazing level design and huge amount of content did not hurt either. It blew the NSMB series out of the water, every critic loved it but nobody bought it.

    1. Rayman Legends was a great game from what I seen. NSMB is one reason I have lost respect for Nintendo. Each new console we get one and technically its just like COD. It feels the same as every other before it and has a few simple upgrades but nothing more. The same can sadly be said for M3DW. Its just an upgraded SM3DL.

      1. I am not gonna try to defend NSMB, it´s clearly lacking creativity and even though i grew up with NES and have no nostalgic feeling towards SNES i like Super Mario World way more than NSMBU.

Still i don´t hate the series, after all there is only 1 per console. If they keep that up i have no problem with it. After all this series just prove how timeless the classic the old Mario games are, you can remake 20+ year old games with very little gameplay improvements (the only thing i can think of is the wall-jump) and both the nostalgia crowd and the younger generation will eat it up. I don´t think you can do that with any other games from the 80´s-90´s.
I think they just made a mistake of releasing NSMB2 and NSMBU around the same time period, it was too much Mario.

I haven´t played 3DW yet but every review i have read have praised the game for it´s creativity, introducing new ideas and how it finds new spins on old ideas. So i am still looking forward to it.

Have you played 3DW? Yes it look like a graphical upgrade from 3DL from trailers and gameplay videos but that´s like that with most games. Replace the main character in GTA 5 and GTA 4 and i will not be able to tell them apart from a 3 minute trailer, same with the PS2 GTA´s.

  10. Please, stop posting UK charts anymore. It’s obvious that those guys don’t know shit about video games, and it’s always painful to see.

  11. The top 4 games reason enough…The top 2 never leave the top 2 in the UK. Games that get perfect or near perfect scores don’t match up to mindless shooters and generic copy and paste games. The worlds worst gamers are in the UK. NOT ALL OF THEM. but its like 75% of UK Gamers are idiots.

  12. It would have been less humiliating if it didn’t get in the charts. Clearly it has been perceived as too childish-looking. Let be honest, it couldn’t be diabetes-inducing if it tried, despite how good as I’m sure it is.
