IGN has discovered that the next Tomb Raider game could be called Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition and is headed to next generation platforms. The news was discovered when Amazon Italy put up a listing for the game, which has since been removed. We reported earlier that Square Enix is preparing to show off two games at the VGX Awards and that Thief and Tomb Raider are the two contenders. We should find out for sure on December 7th.

Unfortunately, to a lot of people “Next Gen” simply means “XBox One and PlayStation 4” (because people are idiots). I wouldn’t count on this coming to Wii U.

I really don’t see what’s so hard to understand about that. Wiiu might not be as powerful as the other two, but that’s because its focused on its controller which is indeed Technology that certainly could not of existed in the previous generation. Even the PS4 and Vita combined can’t come close to replicating what the Wiiu gamepad does.

That’s all a generation is. I’ve played all three 8th gen consoles and none of them have a substantial graphics leap over the 7th generation because all of them basically give you high-end PC-level graphics of the previous generation at best and only a few games do that. Some so-called “next-gen” games actually look WORSE than the previous gen such as Madden 25 and NBA Live ’14. Knack doesn’t look any better than Super Mario Galaxy running on the Dolphin EMU. However Killzone:Shadowfall definitely looks better than the best on the 7th gen in terms of FPS games and even Lego: Marvel Heroes looks amazing. Does it look head and shoulders better than Super Mario 3D World? No. Does it LOOK better than Super Mario 3D World? I don’t think so. I think they are about the same.
Whenever people compare Wii U games to XBOX One and PS4 they always choose the lowest common denominator versus the best that the other two have to offer. They compare games built from the ground up on PS4 and XBOX One hardware to Wii U games that were made from crappy 360 ports. They will say, “Look how much better the PS4 version of COD: Ghosts looks than the Wii U version.”
The reason why Wii U multiplats look inferior to that of the PS4 and XBOX One is not because the Wii U is “underpowered” (which is the champion argument for those who’s intelligence is underpowered or resolve in researching the facts are) but is because it is a LOT faster, a LOT easier, and far LESS expensive to port a 360 build to the Wii U and use the power it has to make it look “better” than the 7th gen as the architecture of the Xenon and the Expresso CPU are similar. We won’t get to see a true 8th-gen multiplat comparison until Project C.A.R.S. arrives as that game was built from the ground up on Wii U hardware.
But we live in an age that people feel if they choose to believe something that makes it fact. So despite the fact that the Wii U CPU while physically is a PowerPC is built to run like a Power7 (which has 3.2GHZ per core) and the GPGPU has 32MB of eDRAM which largely has not even been touched by developers because they do not have the time or resources to build separate engines from scratch that are Wii U only. This is a MAJOR mistake by Nintendo no doubt. 3rd parties should have gotten Wii U dev kits a LONG before they did so that they would have more than enough time to develop a separate engine for Wii U games. Or Nintendo should have just chosen architecture similar to what Sony and Microsoft are using.
The point is that Nintendo has a billion problems right now. Iwata needs to be fired, Fils-Aime needs to be fired. Miyamoto needs to retire. Power level of the Wii U is not an issue. It is sufficiently powerful enough anything that you are going to see on the PS4 and XBOX One whether people want to except or it. The problem is we likely will never see that because the Goof Troop doesn’t think photo-realism is necessary sometimes, or that people like to play games with mature-themes. Doesn’t have to be sex, blood, profanity, and violence to be mature. Just themes that grown folks understand. Kids have plenty of kid-only type games on the Wii U. How many adult-only exclusive 1st party games does the Wii U have? ZombiU? That’s about it.
First off you know nothing about how technology works because if you did you’d know why some multiplats on the Wii U don’t run as good as they do on last gen consoles. The Xbox 360 & PS3 have multi-threaded in order processors while the Wii U uses an single-threaded out of order processor, note: all last gen multiplats uses multi-threaded in order processed gaming engines so those engines won’t function that well on the Wii U regardless because of how the architecture is designed. Why else do you think there are no multiplats being ported from last gen consoles to the PS4 & Xbox One? Easy…they wouldn’t run well either because they also use single-threaded out of order processors and besides multiplats sell better on Sony & Microsoft consoles so building out of order processed gaming engines would be worth the risk as oppose to the Wii U and btw the Wii U has shown that leap in games like Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, & ” X “. Name me one platform game that’s on the Xbox 360 & PS3 that’s looks better graphically than Super Mario 3D World. I really doubt you can

I’m sorry but graphics is not the only factor that defines generational leaps. As I was saying the Wiiu gamepad and its wireless streaming tech, which is tech just like CPU’s, GPU’s and RAM are, weren’t possible in the previous generation. It’s Next gen technology whether you disagree or not.

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, if real, is most likely the Tomb Raider game that came out this year with improved graphics, all DLC included, and a collectible of some sort ( ie – art book, soundtrack). I don’t know why you get the idea it’s “the next Tomb Raider game”.

I’m really hoping this game comes to the Wii U. I bought it for 360 to a friend of mine and played it together with her. It was a great game and I’d like to own it myself. I don’t have any Sony or Microsoft-consoles though. Would make sense to make it for Wii U AND ps4/xbone. Then they’ll cover pretty much everyone. But I guess it’s easier to port it only to ps4/xbone… I’m not getting my hopes up for this – but if they release it on WiiU it’s a day one buy.
