IGN Reviews Bravely Default, Awards It With An 8.6

IGN has reviewed Square Enix’s Bravely Default for the Nintendo 3DS and has given the game an 8.6 out of 10. IGN praises the game’s risk-reward battle mechanic, from which the game gets its title, the  strategic elements of the game, which include the job system, the art style, and the “splendor” of the world. While IGN thinks the story is rather generic, it is still well-told and in a grandiose way. The voice acting is hit and miss, but overall IGN believes it is one of the more enjoyable entries into the JRPG genre.

“Bravely Default offers a handful of modern twists on what is otherwise a fairly traditional JRPG, albeit one that is exceptionally refined, characterful and well-made. It’s no revolution, and if random encounters and turn-based battles turn you off, you won’t find anything to change your mind here. But fans and open-minded newcomers will enjoy a substantial adventure that proves the JRPG is alive and kicking.” – David Evans, IGN

  1. Wow people don’t shut up about this game. would of thought it’d score higher.
inb4 8.6 is still an amazing score
    shut up.

    1. Exactly. If it had gotten a 9, which it was only 0.4 points away from getting, people would say how high of a score it is. The rating system is kinda screwed up. 8.6 is a fantastic score.

    2. …except 8.6 is a good score, it’s a great score, especially from IGN (who honestly, only fuck up now and then these days) and especially for a modern JRPG.

People hyped it up because we wanted it localised, because the JRPG genre has just died after the SNES and PS1, and the only really good ones that got released were Persona 3 and 4, and then Xenoblade and The Last Story, everything else has been mediocre, or cancelled so Square Enix can waste more money on shit nobody cares about.

  2. Looking forward to this game actually, something that’s actually worth the money that i wont finish in 15 hours…

  3. Awesome, miss good JRPG’s, played the demo, very much like old SNES/PS1 JRPG’s.

Still hate the random battle encounter system, and going into the “battle screen” system, it’s the reason why i love Chrono Trigger and Xenoblade so much, heck even in it’s many flaws, the FFXIII series showed me the enemies at least, but it’s a small nitpick.
