NPD: Industry Generated $2.74 Billion In Revenue, Super Mario 3D World And Zelda Miss Out On Top Ten

The NPD group has confirmed that the game industry generated $2.74 billion in revenue at physical retailers during November in the United States. Sony says the PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console and Microsoft says the Xbox One was the fastest selling console.  $1.33 billion worth of consoles and portable devices were sold in November in the US. You can see the best-selling software below, sadly Super Mario 3D World and Zelda: A Link Between Worlds didn’t make the cut. Hopefully we will get sales figures for software and hardware from Nintendo later today.

  1. Call of Duty: Ghosts (Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PC, Wii U)
  2. Battlefield 4 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One, PC)
  3. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, PC, Wii U)
  4. Madden NFL 25 (Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One)
  5. Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360, PS3)
  6. NBA 2K14 (Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, PC)
  7. Skylanders: Swap Force (Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, 3DS, Xbox One, PS4)

    1. Both Mario 3D world and ALBW are exclusive to their respective system. You cant possibly expect either one to sell more than Just Dance or FIFA which have the sales of 5 or 6 systems combined.

  1. it doesn’t make much sense to expect mario or zelda on there.. both games limited to a single platform in the latter case even a platform that doesn’t have a lot of market penetration so far

    1. Agreed. Each exclusive to wii u and 3ds. Sales of these games are impressive bc of their exclusiveness. Both games are system sellers, I can vouch personally for both. Good job N.

  2. I heard mario and zelda got 11 and 12. sucks zelda isn’t selling, same for mario both good games. Both mario and zelda are close to breaking over a million

      1. heard mario sold around 200,000 and zelda may be around there. As the holidays get closer sells will rise for nintendo

        1. I hope so. Still waiting on Nintendo numbers, but I’m not sure if we are getting them this month. They usually come around the same time as Microsoft’s. Sony don’t usually do press releases for NPD.

          1. nintendo has nearly sold 1 million wii u system, it said they are real closeto 5 million. Helped a family pick a console today, didn’t even work at best buy, they just asked me since i was looking at games, I convinced them to get one. I notice that wii u s are getting sold out. went to game stop they had none, best buy had 8 units left(they had 30 last time i checked) and my wal mart is sold out

            1. The lack of wiiu sale is not about people not wanting them is just that Nintendo demographic is being hurt the most in this economy.

    1. “Gamers” in your statement should be replaced with “dudbros”, “fratboys”, or “college wasters”. They all mean the same thing, but still.

      1. HAHAHA! XD Yeah bunch of insecure weirdos, who think being a man is not just being born one, but it’s a behavior and depends on how you act, play, do, talk, dress, and all that shit.

  3. It’s the NPD, if you knew anything about running a GOOD site, you don’t only post the good news, sometimes you gotta post the negative. So when A sports reporter for Ohio and they say the team needs improvement and suck? Does that make them trolls? No.

  4. you mean that 2 exclusive games didn’t make the top ten against games you could get on any sytem?, I’m SHOCKED; SHOCKED….

  5. What the fuck are Zelda fans doing ? Brazzers’ monthly sub’ was too expensive and they can’t buy A Link Between Worlds or what ? So far, the game is not selling as good as expected when it’s probably one of the best of the series.
If even the Zelda fanbase is loosing faith, Nintendo are doomed.

  6. You telling me that games that where selling just for one week did not made the top ten but games that have been selling since November one did better? -___-.

  7. Notice that all of the games on this list were released on about 20 different platforms. To say that the Nintendo exclusives were handicapped is an understatement

  8. This list is not surprising. Considering the new console releases, plus all the black friday specials on most of these games. I’m betting both (Zelda and Mario) are at least Zelda made the top 15.

  9. Guys I had to stop reading your comments, Zelda and Mario are selling, everything in the above list is multi platform….so sure it’s logical to think a game on all 5 systems might have more combined sales than a game on one system that is right behind those…misleading, and you guys are eating it up. I rarely comment but please just think a little bit guys.

  10. Well, Mario and Zelda are only in ONE CONSOLE each, while all the Top 10 games are in like 5 consoles, so of course they’re gonna sell more. How stupid. >.>

Anyway, I can’t believe people are so obsessed with war shooting games and kill each other online with guns, people are like sheep buying every Call Of Duty each year. It’s sad. While more creative and fun games don’t make the Top 10. Hell, there isn’t a single exclusive at the Top 10. Only multiplatform crap.

    1. They are like sheep buying cod every year. Same thing can be said about n fanboys buying ONLY first party games. Then you go and call multiplatform games “crap”. YOU are what’s wrong and ruining Nintendo only buying first party games and then bitching and complaining that developers don’t want to bring any games to the wii u. I play cod AND Zelda so what am I? A god?

    1. 2D Zeldas are still amazing dudes, and very relevant with the real fans of the series.
Looking forward to the Wii U Zelda though, but A Link Between Worlds is a wonderfully done game.

    2. “The Real Zelda”? Zelda fans plays both, console and handheld titles, I don’t see your point there. And of course we want to see Zelda U, but by the meantime we have ALBW, which is an amazing game.

    1. 20May 9, 2012 at 2:04 am641I’m glad you mentioned the Gothic Series. I wtnaed to point out that they’re the reason PB has still somewhat of a fanbase. And it’s also the reason why I played Risen 2 (and the Pirate theme too, of yourse). I wtnaed to see the progress Risen 2 made. Now when I was a kid, Piranha Bytes made groundbreaking RPGs with Gothic 1+2. At those times, the games received much much praise. And it was deserved. I don’t know how different their team was back then, though. As Gothic 3 came out the game was basically junk, and scared off a lot of fans. It ruined the entire series basically. Everything that made the series good, was thrown out of the window.Their were some problems between the Publisher and the Studio PB, as they say. But I think ther’s more behind it. And that’s supposed to be the reason why the game was released too early. A few years after that, the publisher went broke. No one was really that sad ^^ It’s really strange, PB didn’t made any sort of progress after that. Every Risen game was even far behind the original Gothic-Series. And while everyone else went on PB still can’t even reach the old times. Too bad I don’t think you’re right. PB doesn’t produce high budget games. I don’t think they will go broke. They will continue making these mediocre games (while the competitors reach to the skies). And I’ve lost hopes on them. I’M STILL ANGRY THEY FUCKED UP GOTHIC IN THE END THOUGH! So, they kind of deserve it.d7

  12. I’m not concerned about ALBW and Super Mario 3D World’s exclusion from the top 10. Like a lot of people have already said, those 2 games are exclusive to 3DS and Wii U. Obviously multi-platform games (such as every game in that top 10 list) will have higher sales. It’s common sense.
