Japan: Famitsu’s Readers Most Wanted Video Games

Japanese gaming publication Famitsu has revealed its readers most wanted games in the latest edition. Scoring high is Nintendo’s Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U, but it’s the only Wii U title to appear in the list. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS slides in at 17, but the game’s Wii U counterpart doesn’t even get a mention – a strange occurrence given Nintendo’s home console has had larger success in Japan. There are a fair few 3DS titles in amongst the Sony circle though, including Puyo Puyo Tetris and the latest Harvest Moon title. You can check out the full top 20 below.

    1. I agree. It was the same with “Resident Evil”, the original title “Biohazard” was so much better and actually fits in with the plot of the games. The marketing drones used the word “Resident” simply because the first game was set in a mansion, it simply doesn’t fit the rest of the series. It’s sad that the most lame and narrow-minded titles games get lumbered with when they are released in North America are the ones that stick.

    2. Simple explanation for the absence of Super Smash Bros WiiU version on the list: Japaneses will always prefer the handheld version of any game or series

    1. Well that is caused by Nintendo choosing to put one of they console seller in another console that is already full of seller

    2. only the sell charts can tell
also, Bayonetta 2 hasnt made enough advert or give out enough details to start the hype

    1. Yeah I think so too. They will both be the same version except with different stages. Sakurai could’ve probably put more characters or other features if the 3ds version didn’t hold the Wii U version back.

      1. not to mention this will hinde the WIiU one as they stated they will not the WiiU version BETTER so it doesnt eclipse the 3DS one
i may be wrong, I hope. Maybe the 3DS one willmake 3DS users to find the best version(WiiU) and be tainted of buying it

            1. The 3ds version will have 3ds games as stages and Wii U will have Wii U games as stages so I think the difference will be somewhat noticeable between the two.

          1. I feel the 3ds stages are simple in design while the wii u has more complex designs like the galaxy stage. I also think after play SSFIV on 3ds that wii u will be the best in controland feel over all.

            1. The Wii U version will definitely have more complex stages as the Wii U is more capable but I’ve never played SF on the 3ds so I can’t say much about the controls. One thing I can say is that my hands feel a little cramped after I play on my 3ds xl for a while. This doesn’t happen when I play the U.

              1. plus the pro controller for wii u is king. Plus i promise u the 3ds version will get a lower score not because of graphics, or its the 3ds version, but for the lack of comfort

      2. Actally they both will different stages, music, cross content, trophies and probably stickers. I up for more characters, but I feel a big rosters kinda mess up balancing. I have that issue with tekken, but who knows what will happen down the road.

                  1. Well u can’t connect to internet on the road anyway, so its local or single on the roadThough I think they should pair dixie and diddy, to make a monkey icle climbers

                    1. I actually want the Ice Climbers to come back though. I even want them to have their own game. Sort of like a reboot of their franchise a la Kid Icarus Uprising.

                    2. I have plans one day for nintendo one day. Most people I share my ideas for ips for nintendo love them. I do feel ice climbers can be a hard platformer like DK but more technical

      3. Stages and Trophies are exclusive to each game, if there was more features exclusive to Wii U like possibly Online on Wii U only (like Monster Hunter Ultimate on 3DS and Wii U where 3DS didn’t have online without connecting to Wii U, exclusive modes and advertised with those, then the Wii U version should stand a chance. The 3DS Smash would be much more limited in features, but I think that the only thing that is staying the same so far is the playable characters.

        1. Yeah having the same characters is pretty much the only constant. I don’t agree with having 3ds users connect with the Wii U to use online because many 3ds users don’t have a Wii U lol. 3ds users would rage if they won’t be able to fight on the road haha.

                1. I’m talking about the 3ds version. He suggested that the online for the 3ds work only by connecting the 3ds to the Wii U a la MH3. If that happened, so long to battles on the road lol.

                  1. I was actually refering to getting rid of online on the 3DS and keeping local play on it, you would like to play against your friends for fun on a portable device, but I think the Console is going to be more suited for online play than a handheld, the console you can’t take everywhere, sure you can get your friends round one night. But if your competitive online and want the experiance, then I think the Wii U version is the way to go, getting both regardless though.

                    1. Yeah I gotcha man. It would definitely give the Wii U version an upper hand to have online while the 3ds version will not, making the latter suitable for local play. I still have a feeling 3ds users will rage if that happened though lol XD

              1. That may be true, but if they keep local wireless in the 3DS Version then it isn’t really hindering it, most people would want the Smash Bros. online experiance on their TV (or in my case the Gamepad, lol), not sure how well the 3DS would put up with Wi-Fi though which is why I suggested in only making the Wii U online only while the 3DS can still do local play.

                1. Wifi can be unreliable in some areas but we’ll see how the online battles run when it comes out. It’s still great to have Smash on the road.

                2. I’ll be buying the Wii U version first and check the reviews for the 3ds version. If it’s good, I’ll buy it as well.

    2. I’ll think in the end it come down to which feels better to play. Plus it is japan the love handhelds. It might hurt sells, it may not, its going depend. The (competive) smash community will play the wii u version more then the 3ds. Also both versions will have different content so people can buy both. I think nintendo should do something like sony did and do cross buy. Buy the wii u version and pay, 10-20$ more u get 3ds version.

        1. spotted not heard. I’m pretty sure both versions will have different sound tracks. Handheld sound tracks on 3ds and console version on wii u. Stickers could make a return….maybe. But that will be it really

This week Japan saw a couple of new software releases, including Kirby Triple Deluxe, which has topped the charts for its release week. The Nintendo 3DS continues to dominate the top ten software sales, with seven of the ten slots belonging to Nintendo’s handheld.

  2. Since KH is so famous worldwide why doesn’t ninty make an RPG with every charecter they have?I’m sure it is going to be amazing to see all the universe’s combine into one awesome game.

  3. Pretty good list. I’m definitely looking forward to most of the games there. I’m not sure about #3 and #4 since I would put those well under some of the other games. That being said, it’s a good year to be a gamer!

  4. I would like to know how big the leap is in terms of votes from the PS3 and PS4 games in top 5 to Mario Kart as the 6. most wanted game.

  5. poor nintendo…
    only mk8 for the U.
even vita has a bether stand.
im just wondering that there is now smash brothers…
    and what about zelda…
    the love dinasty warriors but

    1. Totally agree Justin! I just commented on the same thing. I seriously think X will be a HUGE hit in Japan when it releases and I’m sure many people in Japan are looking forward to it!
