Harvest Moon: Connect to a New Land storms the charts to take the top spot with over 130,000 copies sold, while PlayStation 4’s Knack slips down into second place. Kirby: Triple Deluxe hangs on in 10th position, while Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sells a further 10k and sits just inside the top 20 in 17th.
Meanwhile in the hardware charts, the PlayStation 4 remains at the top, though suffers from a considerable drop in sales after its launch week due to alleged supply constraints. 3DS sales are elevated a further 6k from last week totalling 38k, while the Wii U brings in 8k like clockwork once again. Its not supply, this is generally what happens to consoles after launch in Japan. The only things that could have sustained it for the second week is the holiday season or it being a very popular portable. I figure it won’t drop drastically after this for awhile, it might even see a modest bump.
Its has nothing to with the stock or the system doing bad/good.

If you were trying to imply that the huge drop in units sold for the PS4 was a bad thing – think again.
The ps4 supply bs is nothing more then a marketing design. I’ve also seen several ps4s in my location Wal-Mart, target, bestbuy ,ect.
Supply in the U.S is completely separate from in Japan, and Sony has to allocate a number of units per region – and 6 million units sold so far worldwide is not a marketing campaign. Also, just because you see something in one area where you live doesn’t mean it is indicative of everywhere else. I could just as easily say that I didn’t see an Xbox One at my local Target or Best Buy….I guess it’s sold out just about everywhere!

You can criticize the writer of this article then for their information – but the original article also doesn’t need to explain why there’s a drop like that – it merely reports the actual numbers. By that logic if it doesn’t indicate a supply constraint in the original article, then one cannot also make the assumption that the drop was due to other circumstances such as a lack of popularity with the console or other inferred reasons, since you can’t pick and choose what you want to use when nothing then is established.
But hey, if you guys want to shit on the numbers in order to make yourselves feel better about the WiiU still doing so poorly, by all means please continue.

dude, tons of people I know have seen ps4s in different states, its not as hard to find as people may think. Sony just isn’t making enough by choice, its kind of consumer sociological thing. If they think the item that sold out every where, they consider buying when they see it. That way the supply demand is increased. This can only work if marketed correctly to consumers or it will fail big time. Plus you really should not believe the media about (not Japan’s charts) about the ps4 sales

And I’m still saying that supply is different for each region. Sony released the PS4 outside Japan first 1) because they know that in Japan there will be little competition so they wanted to allocate more units to other regions first and 2)because Western development for games was farther along.

Of course it´s the marketing campaign. PS4 has sold like you said 6M units without any big titles. It sold million units the first day with very mediocre Knack and some generic FPS. Do you really think it has anything to do with quality? You think those 6M are bought by tech geeks that desided which console to buy by looking at some spec lists?
It will later surely when they start to pump out the next Metal gear, Dark souls, Infamous, GTA etc but now it´s mosty hype and marketing.
I have no interest in the ps4 at this time, maybe around fall i’ll pick one up but so far no.

Lot of people I’ve talked to didn’t really enjoy knack. They said the game felt rush, bland, and unbalanced in difficulty. I’ve only played it once at my friends, and was not that good.

The PS4’s sales are largely supply and demand related. They likely have enough supply to make people not have to wait, but are slowly releasing it to drive demand up. Considering they magically knew they would suddenly not have supply issues in April, I am convinced this is the case.
As for the Wii U’s sales, Japan is its worst selling region. Not that it sells spectacularly well elsewhere, but Donkey Kong does better in the west. I actually can’t find Donkey Kong anywhere in my city. Hopefully it gave the Wii U a substantial sales boost.

Everytime PS4 gets brought up on this site I have to laugh at the delusional comments from everyone. I love Nintendo, but I also love Sony. They’re clearly not suffering at all. They’ve outsold the Wii U in four months. I mean, come on. People are buying it without many games available. inFamous: Second Son launches and they just announced Batman for PS4 and XBOX One, it’s skipping Wii U. Really, which system is suffering? It’s definitely not at sold out status, maybe in some areas where people are wealthier I suppose. Here we haven’t really sold out of any of the consoles. They do stay sold out for a day or two, but then they get more in, Sony is meeting demands now here. They’ll meet the demands for Japan in a few weeks. inFamous will help and the announcement of the new Batman game will help, especially since Japan isn’t a huge fan of Xbox in general.
