Former Castlevania Producer Says He Would Love To Work On Metroid

Former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi recently left Konami to form his own studio. IGN caught up with him at this year’s GDC event and asked him whether he would be interested in helping out on the Metroid series. Igarashi says that the decision would be down to Nintendo, but he would love to have the opportunity.

“Whether it’s possible or not comes down to the [intellectual property] holder, which in this case would be Nintendo, and whether they want to work with me. But, if they did want to work with me, I would love the chance of doing that.”

        1. Working a nintendo project. He need not to. Respect! Castlevania ds games among the greatest on a nintendo console or handheld.

    1. Still got the chance? Nintendo is not going anywhere. The wii-u is doing poorly but they are not in the red financially at all. The 3ds is still doing great in mobile gaming. and they still have a war chest of cash from the wii.

  1. You did say u were going to offer first party character more for game development and other things nintendo, don’t blow it

  2. nintendo also should of got plat to do star fox :/

    Here’s why it’s important:

Have you ever imagined playing an old classic that you loved and wanted it to be online to show off your skills or even play with friends and family that live to far away to play the game with them. Imagine Super Mario World with online and voice chat, Mario kart with online and voice chat or even super smash bros! from N64 with online multiplayer and voice chat the list can go on and on this can be something that I know will be a hit! We together can make this happen if we show nintendo that we really want this! This would be amazing!

  3. So…. I would love to play a FPS Metroid. Not going to happen. This is because I think someone at Nintendo hates me.

      1. I usually don’t bother with Fps games in general but the metroid prime games got my attention. They were awesome.

  4. Sounds very similar to Platinum Games saying they wanted to do Star Fox all those years ago.

Unfortunately, it means it’ll probably be an opportunity that Nintendo will once again ignore. *Sigh*

  6. Imagine if Koji Igarashi and his new studio worked on a 2D Metroid for the 3DS, while Platinum Games worked on a 3D Metroid for the Wii U. That would be awesome! Nintendo did say they wanted to outsource their IP’s to other developers, right? So c’mon, Nintendo, get on it already!

  7. I… don’t know… for some reason I fell that Retro has to make the Metroid games. I mean they did so fuckin good on the Prime series. Sure this guys could do some good stuff to the game, it just feels odd.

  8. Retro have expressed their desire in trying new things. They did a tremendous job with the 3 Prime games, but I’d like to see them branch out more. DK was good start, now I want to see what else they can turn to gold. Platinum Games seems like a really great choice to develop a Metroid game. Although, Kamiya from Platinum has stated that he’d love to work on a Starfox game so maybe that will happen rather than a new Metroid from them
