Nintendo of America have confirmed today that they won’t be attending this year’s PAX East event, which is taking place April 11th to April 13th. Nintendo of America has always had a presence at PAX East so it comes as a surprise that they won’t be attending this year.

That doesn’t include PAX East this year, but we will offer our fans a variety of opportunities to get their hands on Nintendo products in 2014. You got to remember even Nintendo though graphics where important in the nes, snes , n64 (somewhat GameCube) days. They even marketed their games and consoles that way. Nintendo had something good going both Graphics and gameplay but lost their way doing the Wii era and throw graphics out the window just during the time when innovation could really be made though modern graphics.
Graphics really did matter back in those days, there was a massive and obvious gulf between the graphics of say, the SNES and the N64. The difference between PS4 and PS3 is there and visible, but it’s nowhere near so much
Nintendo did not ‘lose their way’ in the Wii era. They kicked ass and won the generation. I’d like to see the Nintendo of 2006 back, rather than their feeble attempts to replicate it over the last couple of years.
The diffitence between SNES and N64 was a big deal because it went from 2D gameplay to 3D gameplay. I think most people would agree that SNES games have aged a lot better than N64 visually.

I could write a looong list of games that have impressed me graphically over the years (probably way over 100 since i have been playing since 1986) but most of those games are either forgotten or have been shown by the test of time to be just average.
The thing is when you see the best graphics ever so many times (pretty much every year) and most of those games have no lasting impact you loose interest.

Things will be fine for Nintendo even if you don’t believe in god. Nintendo won’t die from one mediocre console launch and generation. Blackberry didn’t get to where they are now because of one generation and one mediocre product launch. It takes failure after failure to bring down big corps like Nintendo. And since the Wii was a giant profit machine and the 3DS is still going strong, and the Wii U is still selling, Nintendo will live to fight another round or two, or three.
