Popular US retail outlet Target has listed the Nintendo 3DS version of Super Smash Bros with an August 29th release date. While this could simply be a standard placeholder, the retailer has penciled in a precise date that’s not the typical last day of the month. The retailer also has the Wii U version listed, but they’ve simply said it’s coming on December 31st. Nintendo has already announced that the Nintendo 3DS version of Smash Bros is coming this summer.

If this is true, then I’m disappointed that it comes out so late in summer when lots of people are finished with vacation by then.

When Nintendo says, “Summer,” they mean at the very end, last minute of summer. When they say 2014, they mean the last day of 2014.
That’s if it’s not delayed of course. I just ignore Nintendo release dates and am happy if we get any software at all. And I don’t blame you for being frustrated. Nintendo is going to let your summer vacation burn by before giving you the game.
This is all very typical Nintendo. Including announcing game systems and games that release YEARS after they use it just to suck you in.

No we are just frustrated Nintendo releases everything so late. I get that they’re being worked on still, but the wait is unbearable. :( As for Sony, I’ve always had a special place in my heart for them too. I don’t own any Sony products yet, but I’ve been thinking about getting PS4.

It _is_ the last day of the month/’summer’ that they can release on. So it’s definitely a placeholder.
The last day of August is the 31st lol and the last day of summer is in September not August. Also, if it had to do with a certain day they can release a game they have the Wii U version as set on the 31st of December which is a Wednesday (that is definitely a placeholder though). Yeah, there is still a big possibility that this could be a placeholder, but knowing that it does not necessarily fit the trend of one it is more likely to be an actual release. Time will tell though and more info will be announced this E3! The hype!

Completely understandable :) which I can see how others would think that the end of August is the end of summer (at least in North America) as most of the time that is when the school year begins, which really when they release games they go by a seasonal calender that’s universal (i think lol) and to them summer starts in the middle of June and ends in the middle of September
even street fighter 4, tekken tag tournament 2, dead or alive 5 and mortal combat have better graphics super smash bros. ssb is confirmed to be last gen.

SF4 uses cheap black lined cel shade, Tekken and Dead or Alive reuses the same engine and anime style for YEARS both console and arcade, longer than COD’s own outdated engine while SSB styles and feel have changed in each game.

Street Fighter 4 looks silly with the black outlines and cell shaded art style. :/ Tekken Tag Tournament for Wii U actually looks pretty good. But you’re right there as well. It looks almost no different than Tekken 6. As for Mortal Kombat, that series has died since deception. I don’t care how realistic the graphics look, I hated MK9. SSB is extremely fun. I can’t even remember how many hours I put into Brawl. The only fighting game I’ve ever played that even comes close to my enjoyment of SSB is Killer Instict Gold on N64. I was extremely hyped for it when they announced it, but then started revealing what console it was on (Xbox One) and they announced season pass DLC. WTF? One of my favorite games completely destroyed because of Microsoft…
So you are saying the Xbox One isn’t next gen either than? Dead Rising 3 can’t run in 1080p with out a massive reduction in graphics, and even then they could only get it to run in 720p.
Wii U on the other hand hasn’t seen reductions in graphics and still plays more Next Gen games than the Xbox One… just saying

This may just be a placeholder. They said summer and august 29th I think is the last day of summer. So it would make sense for Target to put this in for now. Don’t freak out, wait for e3.
Last day of summer is actually in September lol even for North America. They go by a universal calender that the summer solstice in June begins summer and the September equinox ends summer in …well..September. We will be finding out at E3 though, the hype!
