It has been revealed that Wii U hardware sales were up more than 85% this May compared with May 2013. The increase was due to Mario Kart 8 which was the second best-selling video game in the United States during the month.
Update: It should be noted that Wii U only managed to sell 60,130 units.

when you look at the vga chartz, you will see that american market is the importent, and after that comes europe. the japanesse market is just peanuts (not handheld).
so the americans and european play other games. nintendo brings only smash and mk, that the u will push a little.
You might be right. But who is to say all of the fanbase of Zelda owns a Wii U? If they don’t & there are still a couple million fans out there without a Wii U, I guarantee that Zelda for Wii U will help sell consoles when it nears release. Not to mention Monolith Soft, the creators of Xenoblade Chronicles X, has at least a few million fans that will know this game will be worth a purchase of a console.

That’ s with only 2 days in may and we still don’t have any sales update but Reggie hinted that the sales quadruple the week after mario kart 8 was released and last time I checked mario kart 8 sold 187,000 wii u around the world as of may 31st so 4 times the amount makes it nearly 750,000 wii u. If that is really true ima flip out.

Kind of ironic seeing how games like Minecraft sold amazingly on PC yet it’s graphics are awful…. so pretty much, graphics only mean a quarter of the game. Crysis 3 is an example, amazing graphics but horrible gameplay and mediocre story…

And if it has a story in it with cutscenes throughout of main characters interacting to progress the story, then it is obviously about a story. It might not be the focal point but it’s still a story.
graphics are important and sales show that, and there;s nothing to be ashamed of. more power = easier for developers to develop / bigger worlds / more beautiful graphics / etc.

60K is still an impressive feat, it may not be to your PS4 sales standards but the more Wii U owners the better.
Graphics isn’t everything, specially when you can finish the whole game in 20 mins. and still pay full price.
If you look on VGchartz my brother, you’ll see that the PS4 and Wii U are neck and neck whilst the Xbox One is sadly falling behind.
Well the Wii U will slowly climb the mountain. Just got to keep pumping more games out. Will it sell well compared to other systems? Probably not. But hopefully enough to increase the install base to where the third party will come back.
Over 60k is pretty good compared to how the Wii U was doing before May. The more the merrier.

May would not show the results from MK 8. We will have to wait for the june numbers. If what Reggie said is correct, then june should have 4 times as many sales, maybe around 250,000. Nintendo knows one game cannot save a system. It’s a constant stream of great games that makes a system. Software sells hardware.. Nintendo will prevail victorious in the long run.

Yes Nintendo is making profit on every Wii U sold specially when they announced they already broke even from production costs. Now the company is in production to fill the demand.
60,000 is a big deal, they just don’t want to believe Mario Kart sold more consoles in 2 days of its release.
For those Sony’s fans here the reality that many in the game industry do not want to tell:

Please note that 7M units were sold worldwide, 7M units is more than Nintendo at this time but Now I am sure they are equal or near each others. Sony like MS and Nintendo have the same issue consumers do not see the need to get the latest console. So for those 3rd Part developer who don’t want to release game on Wii U but on PS4 and XB1 don’t use the hardware sales cause it’s BS……..
