This week’s Media Create sales are now in from Japan. Pokemon Art Academy has slipped down to number 9 after coming in top of the chart last week, while Mario Kart 8 continues to do well at number 8. With a further 23k units sold, the ever-popular racing title could very well break 500,000 copies by next week in Japan. A few new releases chart well this week, though Watch Dogs for PlayStation 4 has to settle for second place as Freedom Wars becomes the new chart-topper.
In terms of hardware, total sales for Nintendo 3DS settle just under 28k, while the Wii U appears to have stabilised its sales, remaining at 10k. You can check out the top 20 software charts followed by the hardware chart below. As usual, you’ll find last week’s sales numbers in parentheses.

I’m really looking forward to Freedom Wars too ! It looks super nice and I really hope it will play just as great as it looks. And about the sales, I just hope it will do well enough here in the west to convince other developers to give the Vita even more exclusive love. d: Or, at least show other developers that there’s actually a point in localizing their games.
The only real reason it’s coming to the West is because it’s a Sony first party game. If it was another developer, it would be much harder to get localized. Namco Bandai is okay with localizing Vita games, although most of them are download only.
Some of the smaller Japanese devs are supporting the Vita in both regions at least. The bigger ones need to do it too though. But of course they’re going where the money is – 3DS.

Truly sad so many of the Japanese games don’t make their way to the west, it would do both the developers and the supporters of the Vita a huge favor, really.
Side Note: I played a co-op demo at E3 and it plays okay. I hope you can customize your controls a little more because running and controlling the camera is a little bit of a pain, but other than that, the game seems cool.

The two games I can see “saving” the Wii U are Super Smash Bros and The Legend of Zelda! The first HD iterations of both franchises should definitely get people hyped! There’s plenty of other games too, but these are just the ones I predict will be the money makers. If these don’t do the trick, then I don’t know what the hell will, honestly. Gamers these days…

We still have through this holiday season to see what Mario Kart can do for the Wii U’s sales. Zelda and Smash Bros have never done as much for Nintendo systems as Mario Kart has. So if Mario Kart can’t do it….. We’ll see.
Mario Kart has me worried. Half the fun was the items, now all I get are coins and green shells. It’s just another racer to me at this point.
Also, open world games have really picked up momentum. GTA and Elder Scrolls for example. If the next Zelda is a true open world RPG, and IF Nintendo adds any kind of online component, it could do some amazing things with WiiU sales.
But, Nintendo will probably find a way to gimp it so it falls short of epic. I think they have an entire department that specializes in taking things that could be legendary, and knocking it down to “A well done game or hardware”

After seeing over the last few months a ridiculous amount of immature trolling I’m putting my thoughts in. I’m 34, married, and have two children. I’m fortunate to own a Wii U and a PS4. I have a 3ds too plus still have most of my old Nintendo consoles (minus the Wii) I’m a Nintendo fan basically. When I go on this site and read a post it would be nice to actually read genuine comments about the topic at hand. As a fan I like hearing other peoples input about their love of video games etc. A question I get asked is what console do I play more and the answer is the Wii U. I do like my PS4 but enjoy what the Wii U has to offer more. At the end of the day that’s my personal opinion and choice. For those that don’t like or care for Nintendo the option is simple. Don’t waste your time on here and go enjoy looking at your own personal choice of gaming platforms websites. Leave this site to those that actually want to look on here. On a lighter note I’m looking forward to Smash Bross Wii U and the Bayoneta games.

Exactly. You can’t beat the feeling of the first time you play those games. Being a child of the 80s I consider myself lucky to have experienced every amazing Nintendo game when they were originally released. All the classics. That’s why I personally love Nintendo. Yet again though that’s just my opinion. If people have had that experience but with a Sony or Xbox game then good for them.
Oh god! Don’t remind me of my first time playing Super Metroid or Ocarina of Time! D: I wish I could wipe my memory clean of playing through them so I could relive those feelings that I felt when I first played them. It felt almost like I was in the games themselves. Nintendo only caters to this baby crowd- Gone is the old Nintendo who made all sorts of games that appealed to all sorts of gamers. When they had Rare, Silicon Knights, Left Field, special relationship with Factor 5, etc, and the rest of western studios. But they sold Rare and the rest of them years ago. Now the one western studio they have left (Retro) is put to work on more of the same old baby games (like DKTF). Nintendo is the one dimensional “games company” that only makes baby games that appeal to this fanbaby Nintendo niche crowd. And one or two games that fit outside that (like Bayonetta and Monolith’s game) once every 2 years doesn’t cut it. Who plays only one or two games a year? Only the casual market they already lost do lolololol.

MarioKart8 needs serious DLC to keep the sales going, like a MKDoubleDash DLC pack and FZero DLC pack, maybe even get Sega Sonic Racing DLC pack. Nintendo should make a DLC where you race with MarioKarts in open world where you outrun police, call it MK8Fugitive DLC pack, just to piss on EA.
