Masahiro Sakurai has revealed in his semi-weekly column in Weekly Famitsu that Shigeru Miyamoto originally requested Pac-Man in Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii. Sakurai says that he remembers thinking it was a little too far-fetched at the time.
“During development of Smash Bros. Brawl, Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo approached me and asked, ‘Can’t we have Pac-Man as a guest character?'” Sakurai recalled. “At the time, imagining the image of Pac-Man and his incomplete pizza shape, I thought to myself, ‘Hmmm… That’s a little too farfetched.'”

months ago my gamepad gave me an error code (a code which you can find on the tech forums) and i talked with a representative and told me that the issue could be that an interference and since that my GP has been working nicely, i didn’t knew what was the issue.

Haha. That’s funny. About 3 days ago, my Wii U Gamepad’s charger was broken because of my little brother. I was like “Uh… Ok, I guess I’ll just use my Wiimote and Classic Controller. And I was about to play Pikmin 3 (because you can play with Wiimote and Nunchuk) and then I get this: “You will need to use the Wii U Gamepad from this point on. Turn on the Wii U Gamepad and try again.” And not only that. I can’t view Youtube, I can’t view the internet browser, I can’t make any Miiverse posts from my games, I can’t even play my indie games, and worst of all, I can’t view the eshop. I’ve always used the Gamepad, but I had no idea it was this forced. I didn’t have any plans on buying anything video game related for about the next 3 months, so this is just unfair. :(

Actually he’s kind of right. I know Pac-man originated in the arcades with games like Pac-man and Pac-Land, but he’s come a long way as a platformer character. While I’m glad Sakurai included Pac-man to complete the team of the video game four, is he even aware of the Pac-man World series’ existence? He could’ve included elements like the Butt Bounce, Buckeneer Bay, Pac-Village/Canyon Chaos/B-Doing Woods, Pac-man’s rev attack, enemies like Orson/Tock-Man and Spooky, or even references to games like Pac-in-Time, Pac-man: Adventures in Time, Pac n’ Roll, Pac-Pix, Pac-man World 3, or even Ms. Pac-man.
It’s pretty obvious why when you look at Mega Man. Sakurai wanted to be as classic as possible with him & Pac-Man. With Pac-Man, he went classic with the moveset.

Yay for Miyamoto! There are certain characters even Sakurai wonders if he can actually do them. But we all know he can make it work when he really puts his heart into it. This is a sign that Sakurai either doesn’t have faith in his own abilities or he’s just a very modest human being.
