Shovel Knight is the best game that launched in June, according to IGN. The action-platformer, which is available in the Nintendo eShop on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, scored a 9/10 in its review on the entertainment website. The video you claim to say it “copied other games” also stated that although it borrows a few ideas from a few different games, it has its own style and its own elements it incorporates, making it unique and not derivative in any way.
This is coming from the video’s own words, so if you want to use it as a source, at least make sure you listen to the whole thing before quoting it.
Also the entire reason WHY it was voted as game of the month was because SO many different games were trying TOO hard to do something new, and this game managed to give a lot of people nostalgia, as well as an exiting and different gameplay experience.
This brings up the question as to why you would ruin it for anyone who was thinking about buying it. I mean, yes, there MIGHT be a chance they didn’t like it, but that’s a small chance.

Absolutely deserved. Game is awesome…It is still not available in the european e-Shop though so i bought it on PC. Might double dip and get the portable verion too.
Definitley a perfect fit for the Nintendo machines and i really hople that Yacht Club and Nintendo will keep the good relations, resulting in more great games from them on the systems.

I certainly did read the entire review. The reviewer said the exact opposite of what you’re saying…he loved the fact that it made many obvious nods to games such as duck tales and adventures of link, but still managed to be its own game, with its own artstyle. The only two downsides the reviewer said about the game were the lack of diverse common enemies at times, and the fact that some of the stages rely more on platforming than killing enemies. However, the reviewer also explained that he didn’t mind it, as the eight knights you have to beat (not including black knight) more than made up for the shortcomings with their own entirely unique style.
So I have no idea why you keep using the IGN review as a reference, as it rates the game a 9 out of 10 and has little to nothing negative to say about it.

I want to get Shovel Knight, but there’s just something about it that’s putting me off. Eh, I never really played a lot of old classic games (I grew up with newer games) and I don’t really like to play games that go for older style. I’m gonna have to look into it more though because it does look interesting. $15 is kind of steep though.And if somebody happens to have it for 3DS and Wii U, tell me the differences. (If there are any) Would be greatly appreciated.
I would HIGHLY recommend the 3DS version, especially if you have an xL. The 3D is well done, but it just looks nicer on a smaller screen.
I am burnt out on platformers, but I bought this JUST in case it was worth the hype, and it’s one of the first games that surpasses the hype..
now, if you never played Zelda 2 or Mario 3, there will be a lot of Nostalgia you’ll be missing out on, but it’s not a big deal… The story is fantastic and fun and has an epic ending. The town exploration is fun, the music is fantastic…it’s NOT like retro city rampage. That’s an Ok game, but Shovel Knight is a Nintendo-quality polished game, whereas Retro City Rampage still has that indie feel.

Shovel Knight probably claimed the title because there are no other big game releases at the moment. It’s going to be fun this fall seeing games battle for the top spot in sales. In September there will be Hyrule Warriors and Destiny, in October there’ll be Smash Bros for 3DS, Bayonetta 2, Battlefield Hardline, Driveclub, and Assassin’s Creed Unity. Then in November there’s Pokemon OR/AS and The Masterchief Halo Collection and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare. Lol *grabs popcorn*

I haven’t had to load a game cart or disk for nearly 6 months. Digital is amazing. Saves space, time, secure (so long as you don’t loose your 3DS or wiiu)
I would only go fully digital for 2 reasons. If they made digital prices cheaper and if I had the money to back it up. I was considering going all digital with my Wii U so I bought a 2TB hard drive and downloaded SM3DW and NSMBU. But after that, I started changing my mind. (I know this is gonna sound corny but… XD) I realized just how beautiful Wii U cases really looked. The blue just goes so well with the games. I saw MK8 and Smash Bros box art and I was like holy crap. Screw this. I’m staying physical. Lol. But now I just feel guilty. I spent my money on a crap TON of memory and now I have no idea what to do with it. Lol. And also, what I mean about money is that I would want to have enough money to buy a second system and transfer my things there just in case I feel the time is right. And so I can get it over before something happens to my system and all my games.
