SEGA Has No Plans For Wii U Virtual Console

SEGA’s CS Research and Development producer Yosuke Okunari has told a fan on Twitter that the company has no plans for the Wii U Virtual Console. Okunari wouldn’t specify why the company isn’t bringing their games to the console, but it could simply be down to sales.

        1. If he can’t afford 10-15 bucks for old games, I guess he’d rather go to Amazon or EBay & pay 30 or more for the original games & maybe 50 or more for the console they can be played on.

    1. Can’t spare $5 for a fucking retro game but willing to spend more on garbage like COD and ripoff DLCs? Hypocrite much?

    1. Why is it that very time some dev say that they’ve no plans for a certain Nintendo console you start “declaring war” on them… At this rate EVERYONE will apparently be Nintendo’s enemy

At least they’re still releasing them for 3DS.

      1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Shuhei Yoshida declared war on Nintendo Commander Quadraxis 1 minute ago…

        *wink*

          1. I wasn’t really serious, though. I was just poking fun at the fact that trolls constantly say that Nintendo are doomed as soon as any negative news at all come out.

  1. A ripoff in the financial sense. You pay way too much for games you probably already own twice or three times. Until Nintendo implements a cross buy system that allows you to play VC games on all their systems if you already bought it on one of them, it stays an overpriced half-assed effort.

I have Super Mario Bros on 3 VC systems. I had to pay for it three times, 5 bucks each. That means I had to pay 15 bucks for a game that sells for 5 bucks.

ANd don’t give me this “you don’t have to buy it” crap because this is what it’s about. If Nintendo wants me to buy it, they should provide a service people want to use. If you want to use a service that rips you off, so be it, nobody will stop you. But leave everyone else a choice.

    1. Were you the anonymous guy above? Whatever. But you raise a fair point. Stupid move for Nintendo to not have cross buy by now, it’s a waste of money for those who want to get it on the different platforms, and yes, the games for the VC are overpriced. It only shows how behind the times Nintendo is.

    2. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

No, if you buy the same game 3 times just because they are not on the same console then it’s your problem, not our empire’s…

It’s the same as those idiots that blames McDonald’s for becoming far when they are the ones buying it every damn day…

The only thing I agree with is that they have overpriced games on the VC…

      1. No, you are wrong. FIrst off it is NOT the same thing as the McDOnalds thing, second of all I just answered why it is a ripoff. The VC IS overpriced and crossbuy IS a necessity. If you continue to defend Nintendo for every stupid decision they make you come across as a tool.

I LOVE Nintendo, always have but I acknowledge if tehy do a dumb thing. And overpriced, no crossbuy VC is a dumb thing…

        1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Then you should write a letter to them or gather a petition which I’ll gladly sign for it to have a crossbuy…

But if you buy the same games 3 times knowing that they do not have such a program then you have to blame yourself for it I’m sorry to say…

And I don’t defend our empire for everything, my Gamepad is defective and on repair now and I wrote a wrathful letter to them for it explaining that if they would charge me just one penny, they could say goodbye to my loyalty…

          Luckily for them I wasn’t charged…

            1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

Well first they told me 1-2 weeks but then I got a text message that it will take a bit longer…

              I hope it’s not more than 4 weeks…

Because then they can expect and even more wrathful letter…

          1. I never said It was not my fault to buy 3 of them. I said I had to buy 3 of them. I just wanted the game on Wii back then, then on 3DS and lastly Wii U. Simple enough I was just saying that it sucks that I have to buy it three times if I want it ONCE on every system because that is archaic…

            1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

What I meant was that if you already knew that they didn’t have crossbuy, then you can only blame yourself for buying it 3 times no matter what…

Inconvienience or not, I would personally never buy the same game paying each time knowing that they do not have that program…

              1. I did, because I love that game. Of course I knew I had to buy it again and again. THat is not my point. My point is that because of that the VC IS a ripoff. It does not matter if I buy it over and over again…

                  1. THey are overpriced as well. It’s not mutually exclusive. But being overpriced is less of a concern if you can play them on all your systems at the same time, maybe even with cross saves. I’d rather pay 5 bucks for NES game ONCE to play on all my systems than 3 bucks twice…

                    1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

                      Indeed…

Maybe I should write a wrathful letter to them about this…

They do not want me to go rogue…

                    2. after i bought super mario 6 golden coins and zelda orical of ages , i;ll never buy a single virtual console game ever again.

                1. In other words, you want to blame Nintendo for your own failure to not resist getting the game multiple times. It’s not Nintendo’s fault you were stupid enough to buy the same game multiple times. What next? Are you going to bitch about having to pay another 60 bucks for the same game that you yourself broke?

        2. You are right. In this time and age you should not have to pay for a game more than once. At least not the full price.. I would consider fair to charge a small fee to take your entire vc library to the next console generation but not that repurchase nonsense.

It would also might become a reason for people to stay with Nintendo when it is time to upgrade console instead of leaving the brand and choosing Sony, Microsoft…

          1. The funny thing is Nintendo has that for the Wii U. If you own the game on VC in Wii mode, you can pay only about 2 dollars to transfer it to the Wii U menu.

        3. xD “They released the game on multiple consoles! I have to buy them on every single one! This is all Nintendo’s fault that I bought the same game on multiple consoles!” It is the Exact. Same. Thing. as those idiots blaming McDonald’s for them becoming fat. No one is holding a gun to your head & telling you to buy. In fact, the only one holding the gun to your head is yourself. But believe whatever you want if it helps you sleep at night.

      2. It IS Nintendo’s problem. It’s a huge inconvenience for those who want it on all their consoles. An example is if I was playing Mario World on my Wii U, then maybe I had to go outside for whatever reason, I have to pay for the EXACT same game to be able to continue playing it on the 3DS. To me the only reason Nintendo failed to do this is because 1. Dem cash grabs or 2. Too lazy to implement something like this

        1. And that’s why I don’t buy games. Shit like this makes me pirate. I brought the game when I was younger, I’ll download them for free somewhere else. I’m not going to cough up 5 dollars just to avoid pulling out my NES. Nintendo can blow me down like Popeye if they expect me to give them 5 dollars just to play the shit on a game pad when it looks the same, the pad is stuck to the charger all the time, and it’s not like I’m going far without it losing connection in the house. I’m a Nintendo fan, but I won’t be supporting them like children.

          1. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis

That’s how I think too for the most part unlike the N-Dub Nation that buys everything…

            1. Very true! I have Punch Out in the closet right now, and I remember paying 33 cents for it. 33 cents is pennies, but I get save states and such.

When you look at it being 5 dollars? There’s no justifying it but getting the saving and nothing more. Sale it at 2 a pop and I’ll understand. Give more features. Give validation for the money. Until then, my Wii will still be hacked with a memory card filler to the brim with their gaming library.

                1. It is. Get one for 50 dollars, you can download anything from NES to N64, and you can own all the Wii games.

    1. A lot of the rights to those games are long gone, but if Nintendo did ports for N64, Dreamcast, and GameCube, the revenue would come. Too much stuff isn’t on the Wii U, and a shit of stuff is on the Wii. And I guess, what it comes down to also is, I don’t believe Nintendo promotes their Wii EShop at all!!! So, in truth, people presume that only the Wii U has one, and no one realizes that you can go on the Wii Channel on the system and go into that shop for N64 games.

  2. Sad that they are currently foregoing Virtual Console on the Wii U. But I can understand their hesitance and something occurs that will change their mind.

  3. pink0crystal0midbus

Obviously they don’t care about bringing back their older games. It’s their decision to make.

  4. I always liked the idea of Virtual Console because it gives gamers a chance to experience games that they missed out on due to the circumstances of their birth.

Crossbuy is good for the consumer, but for the company however, not so much. I’m speaking in general, from the point of view of a company. Only when they’ll be able to capitalize on it without sacrificing a significant amount of profit or enough demand from consumers is present. will they consider crossbuy fully.

  8. They said “no plans”, not “unwilling”.

While it’s not on their mind to release new virtual console games, that doesn’t automatically rule out that they would. It’s just not on their mind right now.

    1. But… Sonic 3… It’s the best one… especially with Sonic and Knuckles attached to it! Genesis has great games! Ristar, Earthworm Jim, the definitive version of Alladin, and more!
