Nintendo has rolled out the next Wii U system update for North America and Europe as expected from our report yesterday. Bar from providing additional stability to the hardware, version 5.1.1 doesn’t appear to do much else. Given the substantial update last month, which added additional controller options for the Nintendo eShop and Wii U to Wii U system transfers, version 5.1.1 merely files under routine maintenance to enhance the user experience. Here’s the short but official word from Nintendo.
“Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.”
Ah….extra stability…it’s as stable as my house now! :) lol
in all honesty, it’s what’s known as a small fork.
they are developing a better version, but meanwhile they find a terrible problem … perhaps it was discovered that users can root their consoles or do something malicious. they go back to the old release and make a small change … they also make that same change to the current build … but they just release the old updates, as the new updates aren’t ready.
this turns into an unexpected release offering no real features and they use the word “stability” because they truly feel we’re too stupid to know the truth. “we found out that nintendo owners were doing something we didn’t like and we decided to stop them from doing it”
good to know.
I’ll never forget when the Wii U crashed ingame all the time!
It still does for me, most recently in DuckTales and Mario Kart 8… I heard the launch day hardware had some faults, but I’ve been too lazy to check it out… Maybe when Smash comes out…
And running Hulu or Amazon is a nightmare with the freezing…
My launch day hardware stopped chrashing after some updates updates. If it still crashes for you regulary, I would check it up
OMG… you’re still running original Wii U hardware?
You are some kind of messed up. The Wii U updates make the machine a thing of beauty.
Hardware/=software. His hardware might be damaged, but he has installed the newest OS (software)!
No dude. No.
Did you buy the premium one? I bought the base model day one and no problem since updates (I had a hard drive to use already)
Cool.
I cant speak for everyone, but I have a launch day black system and never had an issue with freezing in any of my games, the newest being Mario Kart 8. The system is used heavily for all the Mario games and Skylanders and not once any issues so I’m just curious why all the system stability updates, lol. Is my Wii U feeling down? Can I make it happy somehow? Does it need to talk? I kid. Heck, it does better than my PS4…that guy freezes more. But I digress.
This comes to the news that the home brewers are making progress with the Wii U, thus the update. Makes sense.
It seems to fix the WebKit exploit
I wish they would make an update so the pro controller works in Wii mode. Why didn’t they think of that in 2008? That was stupid.
Go program it for them if you know how it’s all supposed to work. Asshole
Unless you’ve built a console yourself with ease, how about you quit acting like it’s so easy to do? As I said in a previous article to you, thinking of it IS NOT the same as actually being able to do it.

I’ve never noticed any difference with ANY system updates. Except for that quick-start menu. Which I can’t see any point in. Everything still takes pretty much just as long as ever to load.
I barely notice any of these updates, to be honest. Yay for the “sleep” mode of the Wii U that downloads the shit for me when I’m not playing it! lol
