Snippets from the recently published Edge Magazine starring the “king” of game design Shigeru Miyamoto are beginning to circulate online. We just reported that Xenoblade Chronicles X will be five times bigger than Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii, but now there’s extra tidbits on Zelda Wii U.
Zelda producer and director Eiji Aonuma recently spoke to Edge Magazine on the topic of open worlds, following what was stated by Shinya Takahashi for Xenoblade, and said that Zelda Wii U’s open world won’t be like any other current open world game on the market. Aonuma’s spoken of the “vast” game world in the past, but let us know your thoughts on his statement in the comments below.
“Since we’re talking about open worlds, let’s state upfront that we don’t plan to have an open world in the same way other companies have been doing in recent years. “
“It will be streamlined and most of the world map will be cut off until you finish a dungeon.”

Because larger equals better. I don’t know about anyone else but Skyrim got boring after awhile as all the little towns and caves basically were the same and melded together in my memory.
Larger usually means more filler. I’d rather have a game with some unique locations and some scripted events instead of free roaming monotony.
Their idea of free roaming probably means that areas won’t be behind a wall or locked with steps or abilities needed to open.

As much as I hate to admit it. Thats what this sounds like. Nintendo said the same stuff with skyward sword and it was one of the more linear ones as far as progression is concerned. They start with open world this open word that. Then say it is “different” than other open world games.

How do you do open world differently than what open world has been in the past and still call it open world?
Maybe if a patch of grass gets burn itll probably stay burned or take like a really long time to grow back. Maybe this open world will be base on reality physics
Maybe it will be like Balloon Fighter or Pac-Man in that if you exit on the right side of the screen you’ll appear on the left side. If you go past those mountains you’ll appear back at the log cabin. That’s what I’ve been imagining since E3.

I haven’t played Animal Crossing but I think that’s what it’s like. They would need some filler space between the volcano and the cabin though. Can’t have Death Mountain right next to a farmer’s cabin haha

You know that more of the main wii u games run 60 fps while new games like AC for X1 is locked at 30 fps?
If there are no loading screens in the world, then there will be a ridiculously long loading screen as you start the game and possibly when you enter a dungeon. If you haven’t played Lego City: Undercover then take a look at it online. It gives a good idea of how well the Wii U runs open-world.

Look @ Xenoblade Wii. Traveling its open world was quite seemless. Then again, it was on Wii hardware (which was easier to work on than Wii U’s), & came later in Wii’s life (so devs were more experienced w/ the hardware).
Monolith is extremely experienced with Wii U’s hardware by now. They’ve been working on this game since 2010.
Wrong tab. Still, This game started development after Skyward Sword in the end of 2011. They should know it well enough by now. Besides, they designed the console themselves.

TF is good but, like I said, nothing can top DKC2 in its category unless there’s an HD remake of the original DKC trilogy together with new content and same old gameplay feel. :3

Assassin’s Creed is one of my favorite games ever. I love everything about it from the characters, the big open cities, the weapons, the oceans, the stories. It’s just awesome. Can’t wait to play AC Unity. Imo, I don’t care what anyone here says. I don’t care if it’s from Ubisoft, I’m gonna keep playing these games. They are perfect for me. I gotta try some of their other games though too. Next up for me is probably Far Cry. That interests me as well.

Can someone accurately compare a 3DS platformer w/ a 2D platformer, especially when one is in a different franchise? & then there’s the DK franchise having only one 3D entry.
But Super Mario Galaxy, SMG 2, & 3D Land are the only 3D Mario games I like. & I played Mario 64 on both N64 & DS. I will admit I barely touched Sunshine & have yet to buy 3D World. As for 2D Mario, the New series & the true Land series (3DS VC) are the only 2D Marios I actually like. I played all the titles on Super Mario All-Stars back in the day & just didn’t care for them too much. However, I loved Donkey Kong Country & Diddy’s Kong Quest. Hated DK 64 (but the included expansion pak made up for it as I was ready for Majora’s Mask [my fave Zelda] & I had the full Starcraft 64 experience). Returns & Tropical Freeze are wonderful & I wish Nintendo would focus more on the DK franchise than Mario’s 2D games. Hel, I wish Nintendo would create a new 2D franchise that’s grittier & is as hardcore, if not more so, than DK.

Enough about zelda for the WiiU. Only thing that needs to be said is the release date, nothing else. Don’t spoil it like Smash bros.
I hope Open World in Zelda U equates to plenty to do. I don’t wanna be wandering Hyrule piddling around just to arrive @ a dungeon or village; collecting Pieces of Heart, Poes, bottles, & bugs only goes so far. I’d like to see areas that I can have a profound affect, & more NPCs & signs of sentient activity all around Hyrule (campfires, trash [or treasure?], birdhouses [yep], etc.).
Also, I hope the fishing mini-game returns. I liked it in Link’s Awakening & Ocarina of Time, but loved it in Twilight Princess. It should’ve been in Skyward Sword, & especially in Wind Waker. Oh well.
I’m hoping it’ll bring one of the best things that Majora’s Mask had going for it back: subquests, more subquests, & even more subquests that all feature their own standalone story elements.
Yes! Majora’s Mask is my favorite Zelda. Aside from the darker tone & time travel mechanics, the sub-quests are what helped make it my favorite. I just hope the amount of subquests are less than Xenoblade’s &/or funner & each a bit meatier. I kept doing Xenoblade’s & I kept getting burned out by them; ’twas a vicious cycle.
The good thing about Zelda if it has a lot of subquests is you don’t have to worry about it making your level high & allowing you to breeze through the main story, unlike Xenoblade which made you pretty high in level when you did tackle the main story and let you breeze through it for the most part. My biggest issue with Xenoblade, though, was the bloody New Game+ thing. Too bad it’s New Game+ didn’t work the same way The Last Story’s New Game+ worked. If Xenoblade Chronicles gets the same treatment as Bayonetta 1, I hope they take some things from Bravely Default’s New Game+ & allow you to reset the characters’ levels for when you start a New Game+.

what i took from them saying different then other open world games! : interactive and alive nature! tree’s grow! plants grow! animals-grass grow- movable objects! puzzles in the open and hidden …. seasons? destructible open world! anything is possible. large scale war ? i have rarely seen alot of moving enemies on a map other then hyrule warriors! maby hyrule is in a war and you need to help your land and stop it ? (yes just an opinion.. can go other ways)
i would like to add something here! MABY: we will actually be in a time when the goddesses actually visits or came back or before they actuallty left after creating the triforce! maby the creation of the master sword itself!
one final thing to add!! it could also mean something greater! a zelda game purely free of quests and missions(same thing but you get the drift) and side quest/missions! Just run around helping out! and when you hear rumors you go investigate! and when you are ready you yourself!!!! you fight the bad guys! just purely interactive no questing at all except for what you want to do!

We did actually help create it. Link took the Goddess Sword to the three flames needed to power it up & turn it into the Master Sword.
