I remember when luigi suddenly appeared in Smash 64, or when I saw ness in the toys r us n64 booth. It was crazy when ganondorf and mewtwo appeared in melee. I feel sorry for you guys who never knew and those who will never know the feeling of discovering these surprises. It’s not a big deal now but when you’re a little kid it’s a really good feeling.

Seriously, the first time unlocking people on 64, seeing their shadow figure and wondering who the fuck Captain Falcon was and Ness (hadn’t played either series yet), was awesome. The surprises were one of the best parts.

I’ll never forget when I unlocked Mewtwo. I was in my cousin’s grandma’s house playing versus in Melee. We were screaming and laughing at our regular match with me playing as Peach. Suddenly, a new challenger approached and me, my broer and cousins started yelling our heads off. We were so excited that I lost to Mewtwo. Maybe I just sucked but I could not defeat Mewtwo and my family yelled at me thinking he was lost forever. Thank God he came back after the next match lol Nothing better for a kid who grew up with Red and Blue to see Mewtwo in Super Smash Bros

Ridley would have been nice to have, I don’t really care about Mewtwo, but the ICE CLIMBERS! The only reason that they were left out is because of the 3DS version, I knew from the start that the 3DS version was going to hold back the Wii U version, and with Sakurai’s stance on both versions having the same roster now we won’t see the Ice Climbers again until SSB5 (if it ever gets made).

It is not, or can you tell me another good reason for a veteran since Melee to be cut? The only answer is framerate issues.
If any, the 3DS has about over a quarter extra disk space than the Gamecube game discs and has the same amount of memory as the Wii available for video games.
The graphics capabilities’ technically more powerful, the reason why graphics are downgraded in the first place, I presume, is because of the 3D effects, among perhaps a few other hurdles. Heck, it’s even underclocked as to not overheat the system/consume too much power.

DLC is reasonable, especially considering Sakurai was pressed for time to release this game. I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a character reveal between now and the Wii U release, and it’s added to the 3DS roster via update/DLC when the Wii U version comes out or later…
To be fair, Sir Sakurai created his own stress by making two versions, High Command gave him the freedom to do whatever he pleased…

AHEM… For your information, the only real problem I have with Super Metroid is figuring out where to go. Everything else is not really a big deal. The wall jump is annoying as hell, but I figured how to do it eventually. And the bosses are pretty easy too.
Super Metroid is partly an adventure game. I’d go so far as to say it’s one of the truest representations of an adventure game back in those days since you had to actually explore to get anywhere. So how far have you actually gotten?
I don’t even remember anymore. Lol. When I got Super Metroid, I was not expecting it to like some kind of adventure/ puzzle game. It’s just way too frustrating for me to spend all this time figuring out where to go. All I really want to do is just kick Ridley’s ass already. XD
If you want a taste of what Ridley is like in the games, I highly suggest playing the first part of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. You get to fight Ridley early on. It’s not a traditional fight with Ridley, though, as you & him are just falling down a tunnel.

That’s ludicrous. The 3DS and Wii U can handle Gamecube level games with ease. The 3DS has a couple Wii games on it, don’t sit there and tell us the 3DS couldn’t handle the Ice Climbers, when it has Duck Hunt Dog and the Duck, and Rosalina with Luma. Completely false.
After the cluster fuck MK8 roster, I don’t think we should be surprised.
However, there is hope they will let you PAY for the ice climbers down the road as DLC. :/

This looks to be about level 6, possibly 7, but definitely not 9, by Brawl’s standards.
So, if I turn out to be right, and this is just barely above average difficulty…

He is an alternate character transformation for Olimar. He has his own render like his own character, but ultimately he is just a palette swap.
Also, if he really was a new character, why didn’t he have his own Newcomers video? All newcomers get a special video, confirmed by Sakurai himself.
And speaking of Dark Pit, I got Kid Icarus Uprising and it’s awesome! Loving the amazing 3D effect and Pit breaking the fourth wall. :P

On top of this, the trainer is a unique character from a unique and historical (IMO) franchise to modern Nintendo.

I think that Sakurai purposefully made that misleading. Alph has the same moveset as Oli and is an alt costume. The difference is that he gets special treatment on the character select page

You can’t say that Rosalina and Lima act like Ice Climbers if you don’t know if you can play Lima or Rosalina alone. If you can’t than the 3Ds will just treat them like one characters. Where as you can lose one ice climber and still play. Meaning Ice Clumbers are seperate characters.

Ugh.. People still going on about this? I dare you to compare Resident Evil Revelations to Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube, Mario Kart 7 to Mario Kart Double Dash, Four Sword Adventures to Link Between Worlds, or look at the fact that the 3DS can play a version of a Wii game (DKCR) that is almost identical to the Wii version, and tell me that the 3DS can’t handle a Gamecube game. BS. It can, and it can do it in 3D while looking better, and possibly run it all in 60fps.
The 3DS is more capable than the Gamecube when it comes to graphics and power. It has more memory available in a cartridge than the Gamecube disks had. They were not cut because of limitations. That’s ridiculous. Resident Evil Revelations running in full 3D (rendering the entire game twice) is far more taxing than Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube, AND looks much better overall, while RE4 pretty much maxed out the Gamecube’s abilities.
While Rosalina and the Duck Hunt Dog aren’t exactly “perfect” examples, you can indeed control (at least Luma) both characters. I have no idea what the Duck does, but 4 Ice Climbers battling wouldn’t take much more memory at all, compared to 4 Rosalinas.
You aren’t taking into account the resolution. The GC is probably more powerful than the 3DS (although not by much). I seriously doubt the 3DS can display those GC games at 480p, especially in RE4’s case.

Also, I’m disappointed that everyone is hating on the FE reps. Remember something, guys. Nintendo puts characters in Smash Bros. based Japanese fan reception the supreme majority of the time, with a LITTLE bit of reception from anywhere else. Plus, FE is one of the more popular franchises in Japan. Do some research.

I already know all the characters from the first BIG leak with the Duck hunt dog and Dr. Mario, etc, but is there any other surprise characters that we didn’t know about?

I have seen that Dark Pit plays like Pit from Brawl while Pit plays completely differently from his original incarnation. As for Dr. Mario, he has his same moveset from Melee (which means Mario Tornado) and so Mario fans will much rather play as Dr. Mario than as Mario.
As for Lucina… she’s just a straight up clone, but her hits do more damage all around than Marth does if you don’t hit with the tip of your sword. Oh and she is smaller in stature so she has a smaller hit box.
So in a way, the clones bring variety to the roster that wouldn’t have been there otherwise. Brawl incarnation of Pit fans will be super happy to have Dark Pit and fans of older Mario from Melee will be happy to have Dr. Mario.
Lucina is a different story… but, it will be interesting to see how she compares to Marth. Maybe she will end up being better?
Hmm you bring a good point plus we also dont know how differnt the customizable moves are and if we get dlc then the roster would have no problems
Hmmm.. good points, I never thought about Dr. Mario having the Mario Tornado Attack, I MUCH prefer that over Fludd, that’s for sure. Dark Pit is still kind of “meh” even if he plays closer to Brawl Pit (with no glide). Lucina is kind of like Roy actually, minus the fire attacks. He also did more damage closer to the hilt etc. I guess I’m a little less upset at those editions after all.
And once again troll history is made — ganondorf still has a sword taunt but no sword…
Ridley still isn’t playable.
I think there is going to be a mode on the wii u where the bosses are playable using the wii u gamepad in their stage Hansard forms… Making Ridley and Yellow Devil and whoever else “playable”
I’m seriously confused as to why anyone thinks Ridley ever had a chance….he’s 5x bigger than bowser and was all but confirmed as a stage hazard months ago.
I’m happy with the roster and can’t wait for the game, I already have over 5 favorite characters: Pit, Pittoo, Rosalina, Lucina, and Palutena. I’m happy the roster was finally revealed, now I can look at how each one fights, and it also just furthers my hype for the game.

It’s a GREAT game, with that said I’m glad they added so many KI: U characters. I’m hoping for a Wii U sequel as well.

So either they’re unlockable on both, or on neither.
Rumor going around that Wii U could have exclusive characters that become available to the 3DS version when you connect your 3DS to the Wii U and swap characters.

I believe the Ice Climbers are gonna be in the Wii U version. I think they will also be available as DLC for the New 3DS since the current can’t pump out the power to support them. If they are cut from both, it proves the 3DS version held the Wii U’s back. I like the roster, a lot. But without Ice Climbers, it just feels… Incomplete. They were veterans, and in my eyes taking them out is worse than taking out Ganondorf because THEY WERE original. Ganondorf is an enhanced Captain Falcon clone, where Ice Climbers were Melee that had their own move set. I understand the 3DS not being able to support them, but if you’re gonna sit there and be stupid about it and minus them out the Wii U version just to make the people who have 3DS’s not feel left out, then you have a game that feels incomplete. I said it before and I’ll say it again, I don’t mind who is in the game as long as you don’t take out ones who have been in 2 games.
Resident Evil Revelations running in full 3D with better graphics than Resident Evil 4 says otherwise about the Ice Climbers. It’s BS. The 3DS is more capable than the Gamecube, it’s games prove it. RE:R vs RE4, MK7 vs MK:DD, It has a Wii game on it for crying out loud.. DKCR… they could do a direct port of Melee onto the current 3DS, and a direct port of Brawl on the “new” 3DS, or at least do to Brawl, what they did to get DKCR running on the 3DS, and port it that way. This “3DS couldn’t handle the Ice Climbers is so utterly and ridiculously false.

Sakurai never promised we wouldn’t get clones… So, he never broke any promises.

Actually bought all 7 in doll form just came in the mail last week lol. $49 with tax and free shipping, couldn’t turn it down since most people were selling for at least like $69 plus shipping. No Ridley? Bleh. Whatever. There is always Super Smash Bros 5 IF Sakurai isn’t still working on a playable Ridley to be added as DLC later down the road. The Ridley haters can go suck on their precious “Ridley is too big!” meme as a logical excuse all they want. Least I got characters that I can use that a lot of people hate the idea of being in the game as playable like Pac-Man, Shulk, Wii Fit Trainer, Lucina.
