This week’s Media Create sales are now in from Japan. Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 3DS continues its reign at the top of the charts, pulling in a further 109k copies, while Yokai Watch 2 sells another 66k in copies. The Japan-only Fatal Frame: Oracle of the Sodden Raven – according to its official translation, rather than The Black Haired Shrine Maiden – enters at 7, with a 27k debut in sales. Bayonetta 2, last week’s number 3, slips down the chart and slides into 12 with almost 7k worth of copies sold throughout the week.
In terms of hardware, the Wii U is boosted slightly by Fatal Frame’s debut sales, which settle just below 10k. On the other hand, the 3DS sales take a dip this week, bringing in a further 30k in total. You can check out the top 20 software chart, alongside the hardware chart below.

That game sounds simply exquisite. What is it about?
It is about Yoshida’s grand quest to soothe his aching buttocks, and the journey he must make through the gauntlet of Internet trolls to find Filthy Frank’s Butthurt Cream. It will be a 2D retro platformer with 5 whole levels. The game is free, but you can buy the DLC by giving an extra 3 fucks.
And yes, it actually is in development. Unfortunately, due to a lack of fucks given, its launch is delayed, and its previous planned arrival on all platforms is now only limited to iPhone, Android, and PC.
Japan is only interested heavily on RPGs, anime and portables. Thats it. Don’t expect any other genre like Hack and Slash to hit big in Japan. XP

Everyone wants to ignore those Bayonetta 2 numbers now, so typical. I knew the sales would drop, but as usual no one wanted to hear it. All it took was common sense to know this was going to happen again with those day one launch numbers.
Not that shocking, though, considering how the mobile market is dominating in Japan. Let’s hope Bayonetta 2 does better outside of Japan.

Some of the most amazing games in history had poor sales and “tanked” at launch. But these games get remembered for what they are, amazing masterpieces..
The problem with that is when these type of games do not sell well, we see less and less of them. Then the gaming industry just becomes a cookie-cutter mold of repeats all because nobody wanted to buy games that were different.
This is the price we pay for the video game industry going mainstream, though.
Those are horrible Bayonetta 2 sales as well as hardware sales overall. Japan is the most dead market out of all the big three regions for the gaming industry.

So, Nintendo bought Fatal Frame to spend tons of money making those games but only release it in Japan for it only to sell 30k units? LOL!
