According to the Nintendo Online Store you’ll be able to use your Gamecube adapter and GameCube controller with all games supported by the Wii Classic Controller, Wii Classic Controller Pro and Wii U Pro Controller. That means you should be able to use the controller with titles such as New Super Mario Bros U, Pikmin 3, and Mario Kart 8, amongst others. You can purchase it for £17.99.

When I sent the tip in, I literally just listed the first three big games that to Wii U Pro controllers that came to mind, so yes, as Wind Waker HD fits the criteria outlined by Nintendo I expect it to also work.
Just use your brain, does it have Wii U Pro or Wii Classic Controller support? If yes, it should work.

well, l don’t know how it is officially called, but the gamecube controller has this function where holding the shoulder button down, and clicking the shoulder button all the way down are two different inputs, so in a way the gamecube controller has 4 shoulder buttons (+ the z-button is 5) this was the most prominent in sunshine l believe

I hope GameCube games don’t take to much space because I only have about 11 GB on my Wii U. I guess I’ll just have to buy a low profile flash drive or something to put in my front USB ports because the back ports will be taken up by the GameCube adapter.
I only have about 3.7 gigs left for storage. I definitely need to upgrade lol. I think I’ll just get an external hard drive. Probably one that contains 1 TB.

Honestly, its not like they can just send them out and all the sudden they have support for HD, and wise screen, also they still have DS, and N64 games they already said they are bringing. And their new QOL division that their starting. They have a lot on their plate in general….moving into more animations to the point their thinking of starting a studio. Their working on cloud stuff, moving to more T and M games, their partner projects. Amiibo, system updates, themes, planning their next systems, development of new system games, the new 3DS is coming out and it well have its own games/apps, investing in mobile platforms like phones and such.

Yes. This is all I wanted to hear. I was buying it anyway for Smash but I was gonna be a little sad if it didn’t work for more than that. I just want to use it in place of my Pro Controller for certain games although i’ll still use my GamePad quite a bit for others. Now if only they start remaking GCN games like Sunshine (or re-releasing them through the Virtual Console) and have them support/need the GCN controller all will be perfect.
Today is a good day for Nintendo news. I guess they figured it was time to get that Hype Train speeding along again heading into the holiday season, Smash Wii U, etc. and grow that install base for next years games like Splatoon and Zelda… My body… I do believe it is ready.

I have been waiting to hear of this too! I hope it is supported as I’m tired of having to use my Wii for Brawl. My Wii is basically used for multiplayer now because of the Wii U’s incompatibility with GameCube controllers so I hope we hear a statement about this soon!
It says that it works on Wii consoles as well as Wii U consoles. So I’m guessing there will be an update for Wii and the virtual Wii inside the Wii U that allows access to the USB gamecube controller slots.
The Wii U Pro has three more buttons than the GameCube controller (ZL, L3 and R3). I’m now certain it is a mistake by Nintendo UK.
I think they mean the GameCube controller works with games that support the Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro.
I’m sure there is going to be button configurations.
If this works for Wii games that use the Classic controller, or even games that use the Game Cube controller, that would make this the best peripheral ever. Playing Xenoblade with a GameCube controller sounds too good to be true.

This makes me hope for GC virtual console games, but remastered in like recent titles have done one PSN and XBL,. Imagine playing SSBM in HD and with online.
Only Pikmin 3 and MK8 feel suitable with the GC controller.
NSMBU on the other hand is fine as is with the Sideways Wiimote.

I never really understood why the GC controller is preferred by a lot of Nintendo fans. Button placement was always weird to me and that c stick was confusing. Also, the back triggers are too mushy for me. I’ve always preferred the normal triangle shaped layout like the Playstation Dualshocks, Wii U Pro Controller, 360, etc.

well hollowgrape if you don’t like it you can play smash with the gamepad, pro controller, the new battle pad controller, wii mote or wiimote with nunchuck or your 3ds if you have one. this is going to be the best smash bros ever!
The appeal of the console was pretty much smash bros. and boy, did that game deliver. The gamecube controller was MADE for that game with the system was an after thought. If that doesn’t make sense, look at their third party support. The triggers were pressure sensitive, how you pressed it mattered, which only a few games really used. Wii tried it, but then abandoned it. PS3 got major flack over it too. It isn’t preferred by players because it isn’t in the design of most games- so its just fluff.

There comes a point when there are too many options, Wiimote, Wii pro controller, Wii U Pro controller, Gamepad, Gamecube. For the hardcore few the Cube controller is great, but for the casual masses it just add confusion
