Factor 5 Were Working On A Rogue Squadron Trilogy Remake For Original Wii

News has emerged from IGN that Factor 5 were working on a Rogue Squadron Trilogy remake for the original Wii console. The game was initially in development for the Xbox, but Factor 5 were interested in the motion controls that the Wii offered gamers. Here’s some of the details about the canceled title.

  • The trilogy would have included Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, and Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, all updated for Wii.
  •  originally in the works for the Xbox
  • Factor 5 became interested in motion controls on Wii
  • The team decided to resurrect the Xbox Star Wars Trilogy project for Wii
  • The team salvaged the code and started bringing the game over
  • The project was 50% done on Xbox
  • All control schemes were supported, including GameCube controller and various peripherals
  • You could even use the Wii wheel to control your X-Wing, using the balance board for pedals
  • Revamped content included speeder bike racing levels, third-person action sequences, and lightsaber battles
  • Lightsaber battles used 1:1 motion controls
  • All-new graphics engine running at 60 frames per second
  • The project was completed, but then cancelled
  • Cancellation is blamed on the financial crisis of 2008
  • Other publishers tried to help out
  • Unfortunately, financial hardship, legal snafus and budgetary restrictions killed the game
  • Julian Eggebrecht, former president of Factor 5 loves the Wii U, but its unpredictable trajectory and licensing troubles in general make a new Star Wars Wii U game unlikely

  1. It says the project was 50% done on the xbox, then next it says it supports gamecube controller? It doesn’t make it clear if this game was supposed to be for the xbox or the Wii..

    1. Nintendo Commander 4axis

They were working on a version for the original xbox. It gets 50 % done but then they cancel it. Then they start making it for the wii instead. Completely finish it but never release it. Got it? Good.

  2. Nintendo, purchase the rights to this, work a deal out with Disney. Even I will purchase a balance board for this.

    F=ma.

  3. Nintendo Commander Quadraxis. Comment on this lack of vision by nintendo of America. Imagine what this would have done for the Wii.

  4. Seriously a console that collects Dust and Dead in Japan and everywhere elese Internet connection. They wana release it on Wii? Dumb. Wii U got Motion controlls wtf man.. heck Wii U Can use Wii Remote to

    1. Did you read the article? It said that they cancelled it around 2008, back when the Wii was still in its prime and 4 years before the Wii U was released.

  5. Such a shame. The second one was easily one of the best games on the GCN. To this day it’s graphics look good and it was a launch title.

Now EA has the licensing rights for Star Wars games. If this is ever resurrected, it’s guaranteed Nintendo fans will never see it.

    1. Not unless if Disney’s contract also include Nintendo ports as part of the deal so EA, despite them hating Nintendo over that dumbass Origin rejection, would have to abide to that contract and make the games for Wii U and knowing Disney and Nintendo are close friends in a way, we could see Star Wars on Wii U/3DS soon.

  6. I loved Rogue Squadron, and CHERISHED its sequel on Gamecube. In fact, that was the title that saved its launch from being a big disappointment for me. I still have my original copy.

If only that whole Lair mistake hadn’t happened…I would pay hundreds for that SW trilogy in HD. Even more awesome (and more logistically and legally impossible) would be on Wii U with a myriad of control options and a touch interface that looks like your cockpit.

  7. With havin so much content and artcles do you ever run into any issues of plagorrism or copyright
infringement? My site has a lot of exclusive content I’ve eiter authored myself or outsourced but it appears a
lot of it is popping it uup all over the internet
without my permission. Do yyou know any ways to help stop content from being
rippesd off? I’d genuinely appreciate it.

  10. An outstanding share! I have just forwarded this onto a colleague who was doing a
little research on this. And he in fact ordered me dinner simply because I found it for him…
lol. So let me reword this…. Thanks for the meal!!
But yeah, thanks for spending the time to discuss this subject here on your internet site.
